Ohana for kids

We have never eaten at Ohana's but have been pursuaded wholeheartedly by reviews on these boards to give it a try. From what I think I know, it is a one price meal and they keep bringing food (skewers and such)??? What are the choices/prices for kids?? I have 2 DS (8 & 3). Just want to make sure that they will have something that they would enjoy eating. I am under the impression that it is real fun for the kids too......can anyone elaborate more for me. How hard is it to get a PS for dinner and is there a suggested time better than others? We will be goin the first week in DEC.

I can't answer about the kids meals but can about what goes on there. They have an event maybe every half an hour or so. There is not constantly something going on so there will be times when you will sit quietly ( well I am never with kids ) and just eat. If you can get by the window that might help between event times. As far as PS goes. I always have one but have never seen the restaurant full. We have waited maybe 10 minutes a couple of times. I always go for and early dinner and arrive between 5:30 and 6:00. It is easier to get in at this time.

Ohana is my son's favorite restaurant. They serve beef, shrimp, pork and turkey from skewers, as well as a number of other side dishes. The 'entertainment' (and it IS hilarious!) is provided by the children, who are invited to have coconut races in the aisles and can participate in a hula hoop contest (no pressure... those who want to can join in, those who don't can watch). They give a little sweet token at the end to all who are involved.

I believe children are $10.95, which is a bargin. We always get an early PS (5:30) so we have time to digest all that food. Prepare to be stuffed.

Last we were there 2 years ago with my dds I remember the coconut race and vaguely the kids marched in a parade throughout the restaurant after the race. If you drink alcoholic beverages, make sure you try a Lapu Lapu!!! On the expensive side, but very, very good.

There really isn't a "kids" menu at 'Ohana's per se... they are served the family meal, and charged kid sized prices. However, if your child really doesn't like what they have, he/she can order from the kids menu at the Kona Cafe. The servers may not suggest it, so you will have to bring it up. They serve the typical kids meals.

Our DS, then 21 months, LOVED Ohana's. I think a lot of it was the server. She brought over Mac and Cheese (his favorite) and a virgin pina colada (he'd just learned to drink from a straw, and had really only had milk) before we even asked. I guess it was on the cafe menu.

We had a great time and watched the pool, MK and the volcano from our window seat.

While at Ohana in August, our 10 yr old son had no interest in the food that was being offered. Our server noticed immediately and brought him out an order of chicken strips and fries. She made it seem like it was no trouble at all. DS was very pleased. The adults enjoyed our dinner. I think my favourite part of the meal was the appetizers. I could have happily have made a meal out of just the coriander chicken wings and veggies that were served. Are all kids in the restaurant invited to take part in the various games and races, or just the kids that are actually sitting in the luau area?

When we were there last fall, I believe all the kids were invited to participate, but there was no pressure. My kids (then DD6, DD4 and DS18mths) loved it. My middle one is very picky and the server didn't even blink an eye. She brought over chicken strips and fries. The appetizers were amazing. I was so full that I could barely eat the wonderful meats. ( I managed). My DS was a bit rowdy and I was convinced that he was a bother, but a nearby elderly couple told me as we were leaving that he was adorable and that they were thoroughly entertained by his "show" that evening. Sure made me feel better about his antics. Sometimes people remind you that there are lots of real nice folks out there.
