Seriously? They have coconut in the bread?? WHY??????

Is it in the bread pudding as well??

I am not going to be a happy camper I fear... Well, depending on what option I get after I call and notate on our reservation that I'm allergic to coconut.

Well, DH will be happy to hear it. We're eating breakfast there in January, and he loves coconut. I, on the other hand, hate it. Can't stand the taste. So, I guess I won't be eating any bread.

I would hope that they'll have an alternative to that nastiness in bread. Two tastes that should NEVER go together.

I don't remember the breakfast bread having that nasty stuff in it. But someone on another thread said that the dinner bread did. EW!

I thought it was supposed to be pineapple in the bread? Not sure I've ever seen it referred to as coconut bread?

Regardless, we had that bread in November 2010 and thought it was stale & absolutely tasteless. If there was anything special in it (pineapple or coconut) we could not taste it. Just tasted like heavy/dense stale steak bread. Not good at all.

Didn't taste any coconut in the bread pudding, either...that was overwhelmingly banana flavored.

I also thought it was pineapple bread. I like the bread you get when you first sit down - it is a little bit sweet - and we never find it dry.

Our favorite dessert in all of Disney World is the Bread Pudding from 'Ohana. It comes with great vanilla ice cream and the will pour the banana foster sauce on your bread pudding if you want it. If you do not want the sauce just tell them not to put it on the pudding.

If you really do not like the bread pudding you can just get the vanilla ice cream.

For those that are interested and those that like this dessert here is a little teaser.

I think you may want to get the official ingredients, as I know there is pineapple in it, but never heard coconut is in it.

Also the bread pudding has bananas in it...again no coconut that I know of.
But since you are allergic you better check into it further.

Also, if you are allergic to anything make sure to tell them when you check in or to tell your waiter. We were there this past February with two people that were allergic some things and the chef came out and spoke to them and created special items just for them. The are very accomodating.

Thanks. I'll call and have it notated.

Kind of disappointing that vanilla ice cream is the only option though. :( MAybe I'll let the rest of the family go there and just do my own thing. They're all super excited about it. I've been meh from the start.

When I went there for Breakfast in October we got two types of bread. One was pinnapple bread and the other I had coconut and something else... I want to say rasins in it.

We had a party of 9 and it was split pretty even on which one everyone thought was better. (Most everyone loved one and thought the other just ok we just didn't agree on which one... I liked pinnapple better)

I wanted to add that both breads did come in the same basket but since its all you can eat they I'm sure would bring you some of just pinnapple since they had no problem getting my neice her own breakfast skillet when we realized the meat was mixed in with everything else (she is a vegetarian)

Definately tell them if you have any problems with any of the food there. If you tell them you have an alergy to the dessert they will create a special dessert just for you. My girlfiends dad this this this past February and his dessert looked and he said tasted amazing.

Both the bread and the bread pudding contain cocunut. My DS13 is allergic. He just does not eat the bread, but they make him a special desert.

Thanks! I just got off the phone with dining and had the allergy notated on the reservation. He said to just remind them when we check in, and then to let our server know. It never occurred to me people would put coconut in bread. Ew. My dad will be in heaven...he LOVES coconut.

I see you are from Brooklyn (I am a Queens girl myself) so I am sure you know Entenmann's bakery products. We have a box of their Cheese Buns and I was curious and checked out their ingredients and sure enough there is coconut in the Cheese Buns. This is something you do not taste but I am sure are in alot of baked goods. Have fun at 'Ohana.

Yeah, I'm careful about reading labels. Thankfully I'm not a big breakfast pastry girl. :)

Thanks!

Omgosh.. I've always thought I was the only person in the world allegric to coconut. I can't believe I met another person. It has been awhile since I've been to O'hanas but there was no coconut in the bread or bread pudding in 2006. Where did you see or hear that it had coconut?

In the post about times of the children's activities. Someone posted about hoping they liked pineapple and other people said it wasn't pineapple in the bread it was coconut.

I had the allergy (I'm not anaphylactic, but my doctor has verified my reaction to eating it as an allergy) noted on our reservation just to be safe. My family's all fine with it - my dad LOVES it actually. It's just me...and it wouldn't be pretty if I ate some.

My DD is allergic to coconut and tree nuts. Coconut has been my biggest problem because it's in so many things you would never think it was in. The popcorn at Disney is popped with coconut oil (well it's a mix, coconut/veg/canola I think)---I was told previously it wasn't.

We ate there in 2009 and the bread had coconut in it. It's really not surprising considering the Island themeing. :goodvibes

There are a lot of breads that have coconut in them. I was just looking at one win my Southern Living cookbook last night that I am making Christmas morning. That's why the title of this thread caught my eye. :goodvibes

Just make sure it's noted and tell everyone at the restaurant...the hostess, the server, etc.

You know I went back and looked through my pictures and back then, they served the fried wonton chips. I guess, it has changed. Because I swear I didn't remember any bread served with the meal. Bummer because those wonton chips were good with the dipping sauce. Anyways, they serve so much food that you really don't need to fill up on bread anyways ;-)
