O'Hana Changes Coming Soon....

Au gratin potatoes at a Polynesian restaurant? So, did they move the fried rice over to Rose and Crown then? :rotfl2: Sheesh! It sounds to me as though 'Ohana is going the way Garden Grill did and it's a HUGE mistake! The Chefs at the Garden Grill have come to their senses apparently and are reverting back to their old tried and true menu, so let's all hope that the Chefs at 'Ohana will too!

I, for one, hope the chefs stay crazy. We were fortunate to eat at 'Ohana's when they were testing both the rice and the potatoes and the potatoes were infinitely better than the dry fried rice.

Once again, we're not talking about massive changes here. Everyone's getting all riled up over the change in an appetizer. It's not like they're revamping the whole menu a la Garden Grill.

Then again, if everyone cancels their ressies at 'Ohana's, it'll be a whole lot easier for us to eat there next year ;) .

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I don't want to open another Ohana thread.

If I'm going to eat at Ohana at 5:30pm, how would I get there from MK, and what time should I leave to get there in time?

Thanks in advance :)

When you exit the MK, walk over to the boat landing closest to the Monorail. Take the boat that goes to the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian. It's much quicker than taking the Monorail. It should take you about 20 minutes at the most.

Please see what you can find out regarding the new menu plans and post. Thanks!

Is this really true? Are they replacing it with a different dessert?

Rumor has it that the replacement will be a warm bread pudding served family style with a vanilla ice cream on the side. It's not set in stone yet, but that's what I heard.

From what I've heard it's not even the chef's decision on these menu changes. "The Powers That Be" came in for dinner, and weren't happy with some things. So, "The Powers" decided to make the changes. It has no reflection on what the guests want...which is rather unfortunate.

I think the best thing to do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN! I will be there in September and December and if there is a change I don't like, I will tell them about it for sure.

Yes, email, email, email, and complain, complain, complain. PLEASE. It's the only way to get things done at Disney.

Now I know that I am new and all but...

And I might get flamed for this but...

Does it seem like to anyone else that LittleBlueGirl is the one with all the 'answers' and is causing a great bit stir and confusion. That poster is new and all, and I am just not ready to accpet what they are saying.

Just my opinion...

Geez guys, I didn't mean to cause a stir. So, I'm new?? Yeah, I am. And I decided since I work at Ohana (and have for a very long time) to come here and talk to you guys about this stuff. I want opinions on things, and I also want a place to vent about changes that are being made. That's all. I prefer to stay anonomous because I like my job, and want to keep it.

Hi LittleBlueGirl - Welcome to the boards and thanks for the heads up on the changes you heard about. I, for one, like inside info. We are taking DH's DD and her DH and 2 DGC to Ohana the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I will miss the rice but not the green beans. Maybe I will see you there! Are the skewer shrimp really going bye bye too? If so my DH will be very sad.

This sounds like an inspection from Ei$sner's lackees. "the powers" need to revisit Walt's words --and guest feed back. The purpose of "Disney" isn't to "please" it's suits....it's to please the guests!

Well O'Hana is DH's favorite place. If these changes occur maybe we will go to Boma more often instead (MY favorite)!

Although I LOVE bread pudding...DH loves the rice but is allergic to shrimp, so cannot eat the wontons either. Now that I think about it, I wonder why he likes O'Hana so much?

Well, I know 2 people who won't be eating at O'Hana again if these changes to the menu do come true. This WAS our traditional last meal before we head home from WDW.......I don't know where that tradition will move to now.

I could do without the fried rice and the chicken wings. The green beans are harder because I absolutely loved them, but if they replace the pineapple and caramel sauce or the wontons, well that will just finish O'Hana for me.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING !!!!!!!

LittleBlueGirl, can you tell us when these changes are supposed to be put in place? I understand the potatoes have already replaced the rice. Will it be done in stages? My family has a reservation on Sep. 6th to celebrate my sister's birthday and I'd hate for her birthday to be marred by unpleasant changes in the menu of one of her favorite restaurants. She LOVES the pineapple and caramel dessert.

Thank you for updating us!

Rats. I just made ADR's at O'Hana for October. My kids love fried rice but won't touch potatoes. Normally it's eat it or have cereal around these parts but I hate having whiney kids on vacation so I try to accomodate them at least some of the time. This is going to make it tougher. We will still eat there but it's going to be more of a challange. Well for the oldest. Number 2 son will eat anything but shrimp and mushrooms. More for me.

Does anyone have an email address to send complaints to? I will definately send one. O'hana's is a family favorite - I don't want it to change. Why would they mess with such a popular restaurant? You would think the Garden Grill would have taught "the powers" something!

Once again, nothing but the potatoes has changed yet. Not that I don't believe littlebluegirl (although I must admit that I'm cautious around a new member that states big changes for something in her first post - sorry, it's just the way I am), but once again, we're getting riled up over something that hasn't happened yet. Everyone needs to cool their jets. Sheesh!

RyMickey - don't tell a woman who's PMSing and dieting at the same time to cool her jets. She can't - its physically impossible! :rotfl:

Littlebluegirl said she works at O'hana so I figured she would hear things. I prefer to think most people on the boards are honest and that she is trying to help. If the rumors are just rumors than my email isn't going to cause any harm and they will know that I love O'hana's just the way it is.

Michelle

PS - I promise to wait until the PMS goes away to send my email - just to be safe.... :teeth:

...and get this...the shrimp aren't going to be cooked on the grill anymore. They're going to bring out the shrimp with the apps.

I hope all the changes aren't in effect when I go in December. Grilled shrimp sounds delicious. Keep us updated if you can. Thanks

I fully understand that she may very well work at 'Ohana's and that these rumors may come to fruition. That being said, I'd rather wait to see if the changes happen before I start to complain. Having had the new potatoes, let me tell you that they're great. I guess that's why I'm having a difficult time with this thread. I started this thread to say how great the potatoes were and it's turned into a somewhat bashing of the changes without people having even tried them - I guess it didn't get the reaction that I thought it would.

I understand that some people don't like change, but at least try the new things on the menu before we have an uproar.

And Michelle, you may want to wait to send that e-mail -- Believe me, the potatoes really are good! ;)
