O'Hana Changes Coming Soon....

Well guys, it's not only going to be the rice, but has anyone noticed the rather bland vegies Ohana is serving instead of the green beans?? We were told the restaurtant wanted better themeing for their menu. Okay, if that's the case then how can they justify the potatoes instead of rice? If green beans aren't Polynesian, then neither are potatoes! Yes, the wontons ARE being taking off the menu, as well as the bread...and get this...the shrimp aren't going to be cooked on the grill anymore. They're going to bring out the shrimp with the apps. Ohana has such a good thing going...they're always so busy, and everyone loves the food. Why change it?? Oh, and I almost forgot... Pineapple and carmel sauce is being taken off the menu as well!!

As a first time poster, where did you get that information?

Just curious.

Well I guess I'll be changing our ADR for the first of September. We have never been before, but the rice was one of the main reasons we were going. Our two DS absolutely love fried rice and they will not eat potatoes au gratin. I also do not eat cheese so that really settles it for us. We were really looking forward to going there but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. :confused3 :sad2:

I am so bummed! We have ADR for the 25th for the first time and I love fried rice, someone please tell me the chicken wings and wontons are still there?

I love fried rice too, but have you had THAT fried rice? IMO it isn't that great and I am looking forward to the new dish instead. I do agree though that the rice makes more sense with the theming of the restaurant.

I don't know...potatos don't sound very...umm...Polynesian. I liked the rice. Oh well.

I can have fried rice anywhere. I can even make fried rice at home. My son doesn't like rice, so the potatoes sound fine for him.

I agree the potatoes don't seem to go with the theme, but if they are good, my kids will love them. They do not eat rice. Now the wontons on the other hand would really be a bummer.

I hope they don't take away the lazy susans. We have a AR coming up in Sept. and it will be our first time ever, so I don't mind the fried rice going but I don't want the experience to change to much as we are really looking forward to eating there because of all the rave reviews we have read! I mean the place is a big hit with people is it not so I don't understand why would they change it now?

I'm going to try to get us another AR for that day now, just in case. Gosh I hope they don't change it to much.

Is this really true? Are they replacing it with a different dessert?

  Ohanas is meant to be Polynesian how on earth can they replace the delicious rice with potatoes ?!!!!
And the wontons and wings are excellent. I think they mean they are trying to cut costs no make it more upscale. Why ruin a good restaurant ? look what happened to Garden Grill in the bid to become ' more 'upscale'

I think the best thing to do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN! I will be there in September and December and if there is a change I don't like, I will tell them about it for sure.

Ohana means family. No one ever gets left behind . . . except the rice, green beans, wontons, and pineapple. :)

We had the potatoes a couple of weeks ago and they were really good. It seems that all the tables around us thought so as well. As I have mentioned on the other threads, they make changes to their menu about every 6 months or so. There are times when it takes a while to get the taste correct but this time they seem to have gotten it the first time. They also don't change many things at once, so it is probably only the potatoes/rice that is being changed this time.

Usually there is an uproar every time any menu changes but given a little time, most people think the changes are good. I would give this time as well and see what happens.

Actually the menu they have now (or up to now) with the chicken wings, green beans and wontons have been like that since at least Christmas 2000. I believe they added the different dipping sauces but I think that's about it. While I agree that potatoes don't fit the Polynesian theme versus the rice, it wasn't that great a version of fried rice. Like other posters said if they get rid of the wontons and the wings, then that chef needs a good knock in the head. Kettle chips..what the?!? I almost cried when they did away with the spring rolls several years ago...:(

I have always heard rave reviews about this place (especially about the wontons and shrimp). I actually made a AR there today for this weekend. I hate to say this but I think the Disney food quality has been going down in the last year and this really makes me sad. They keep using the upscale thing but I think they are going for more preprepared food. I was there a few weeks ago and have always loved Kona Cafe, especially the sticky wings, and for some reason they just didn't taste up to par. I ate there again the next night and had the terriyaki steak and it also didn't seem as good. Oh well, there are lots of other restaurants I still haven't tried. :confused3

there is also a rumor that the wontons are being replaced by kettle chips

That is blasphemous!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!

And then to think they won't grill the shrimp, and are planning to get rid of the pineapple/caramel too? Why would we go?? We got ADR's for 8/30, so we'll report back post trip....

We were there last week, and indeed had the potatoes and no rice, they told me that they were not serving rice anymore, the potatoes were very good, the mixed veggies were actually very good. No one mentionned any other changes, the bread was excellent as always, as were the shrimps and the pinneapple.

If they get rid of the pineapple and caramel, I wonder how that will affect the dining plan. Maybe you'll be able to order a dessert off the menu now?

Now I know that I am new and all but...

And I might get flamed for this but...

Does it seem like to anyone else that LittleBlueGirl is the one with all the 'answers' and is causing a great bit stir and confusion. That poster is new and all, and I am just not ready to accpet what they are saying.

Just my opinion...
