O'Hana Changes Coming Soon....

Just got back from a great trip to the World (dining reviews coming soon).

However, just thought I'd let you in on some changes coming to O'Hana's (sorry if this has been posted...I've been gone for 2+ weeks, you know).

When we ate at O'Hana's last Saturday, we were told that they were trying out a new appetizer - potatoes au gratin. They were excellent (then again, everything at O'Hana's is). After dinner, the chef came around to our table to gauge our reaction to the potatoes. We immediately said that the potatoes should replace the fried rice. He said that they soon will. He told us that Saturday (the night we were dining) would probably be the last night they would be offering both the rice and the potatoes, but he said the potatoes would probably become a staple. He also told us that they will be getting rid of the lazy susans in the center of the table and will be serving the appetizers in china. He said it was an attempt to become slightly more "up-scale." He thanked us for coming and asked us when our next trip would be. When we told him next June, he said to expect the changes by then (of course that's a huge amount of time).

Just thought I'd let everyone know...

Did anyone else get to try the potatoes? What did you think?

So you're the one we should blame. :rotfl:

There are a couple of threads about the changes

If they get rid of the wonton's and chicken wings, I'm never going there again! ;)

But isn't fried rice more of a Polynesian staple than potatoes au gratin? :confused3

Yep. It's all our fault. ;) I guess I'll have to look through the threads. Just got back from the trip and haven't had time to go through the two weeks worth of missed threads yet (plus I was DISless the week before the trip as packing and getting the house prepared for the trip took over my everyday activities).

Sounds like the potatoes have been shunned?!?

I thought the same thing.....but I liked the potatoes better!

So the lazy susan will be replaced? When?

I have the ADR for the 28th and I'm still trying to figure out what to do. I've never been.

How will they serve the appetizers? Will the wings stay? I'd actually be ok with salad and wings and possibly the wontons with the meat. I'm not a big potatoes fan (low carber).

there is also a rumor that the wontons are being replaced by kettle chips

The chef didn't give us any date for the lazy susan changes. He only said it would be complete by our next trip (which is June)...so sometime in the next 10 months is all I can say. He said they'll be bringing the dishes out in china bowls to give it a more upscale aire.

He didn't say anything else about changes to the menu. So, I think you're safe on the salad (although for some reason, I think he said something about a change to the salad -- I think it was something about a bigger portion size), the wontons, and wings.

Ok, you mean dishes china. I must have had a senior moment in your first post because you said served in china. I'm thinking to myself "Well, fried rice and wontons are a product of Chinese food, so it makes sense for the Chinese restaurant in Epcot to get them".

Now that you say it will be served in serving bowl china, not the epcot area, that makes more sense.

I don't care how its served, lazy susan or serving bowls, but as long as it still remains.

I am so bummed! We have ADR for the 25th for the first time and I love fried rice, someone please tell me the chicken wings and wontons are still there?

The changeover might not happen yet. You still have a good shot at having rice, I'd assume. Like I said, according to the chef, they weren't planning on getting rid of the wantons and chicken wings.

He said that he wanted to keep things fresh by changing just a little bit.

Don't cancel because of the lack of fried rice (or the possibility of the lack of fried rice). O'Hana's for dinner is the best meal our family has had in the parks for our past two trips.

What? Aren't kettle chips crispy potato chips?

We just ate there a couple of nights ago. They still had the lazy susans. They did not have fried rice but instead had the potatos, which IMO were very tasty. The did still have the wontons and chicken wings. Everything was very good and our service was outstanding. We very much enjoyed our dining experience.

Kettle chips are upscale???? I think not. I still can't see potatoes over rice but keep the wontons. I'm thinking the tables will be more crowded without lazy susans. I'm sure they research all of this before changing it.

I reckon their going to need to get rid of the hula hoop contest and coconut races if they want to be upscale.

:)

I was also a little taken aback when the chef said they wanted to go more upscale. O'Hana means family, so I think a family atmosphere needs to be a part of the restaurant. That being said, I don't think they're going to change a whole lot...and who knows, maybe they'll keep the lazy susans and ixnay the china if it doesn't work out the way the planned. I still say this is the best restaurant we've eaten at on Disney property.

O'Hana is a must do on every trip. If they want to make changes then they should bring Lilo and Stitch to the character breakfast!

DS will be so sad that the fried rice is gone......he dislikes potatoes very much. Even though he's a cheese lover, I am sure he won't be eating them.
