We are headed to the world in Oct and I am just wondering, are Ohana and Boma, good choices for kids?? I mean, from an atmosphere point of view. They are both TERRIBLY picky and probably won't eat much at either. But I would like it to be some place fun. Are there any "activities" going on, or live music?? Thanks.....;)

My kids love Ohana but they also eat anything, I took my best friend in June and her kids are picky eaters so they were offered a kids menu and all of the kids had fun participating in the parades.
Boma did not have any entertainment when we were there and my kids 'tried' everything but wouldn't 'eat' anything so needless to say they ate what they claim to be the best cookies ever for their meal I really don't blame them though because I really didn't find anything to make a meal with either, I just don't care for sweet food now sweet desserts are another story.

Thanks..... that is what I wanted to know. I don't know if Boma is a good choice for us. A lot of folks here love it....but honestly I have looked at some of the food pics and I think..... yuck!! Help......:confused3

We always love to try new stuff, but I just didn't care for anything there except for those cookies :lovestruc , I was really close to asking the waiter for a small box or at least napkin so we could have a snack later :rotfl: .

If you are really want to experience Boma go for breakfast, it was delish... We ate everything :rolleyes1 they offered for breakfast nothing too out of the ordinary.

Agree with the "yuck" on Boma...here's my review from September of 2008 (go back a few pages from this link.) There's pictures & all. We did not have a good experience at Boma. There is no entertainment, and the place was jam-packed when we were there.

I really like Boma, but I would not recommend it to picky eaters. Also, the resort is awesome - but I don't think kids will love the restaurant atmosphere itself. So, unless the adults have their heart set on it, I would skip it or have breakfast there. The breakfast choices are fresh and tasty and, for the most part, "normal" breakfast foods.

O'hana is good. The kid's activities are a lot of fun. They have a singer that leads the kids in coconut sweeping races and hula lessons. The food is mostly meats and peel-and-eat shrimp on skewers. If you don't think the kids will go for that, you can always order a regular kid's meal instead. There is no menu: the waitperson will tell you what kid's meals they have. I think they are the same as Kona. Everyone shares banana bread pudding with ice cream for dessert. My kids had no interest in the bread pudding part but they loved the ice cream with banana foster sauce. :thumbsup2

I thought Boma for breakfast was wonderful and I have done Boma for dinner and agree with the posters that it is unusual food. Breakfast has a mixture of unusual and regular......I think breakfast is the way to go for children..

I have only done Ohana for dinner and we have always enjoyed it.. we have not been there for a while though...

Definitely try Ohana--usually picky ones can find something to eat, and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. Boma (which we love) probably isn't the best choice for the super-picky (except of course for the desserts :) .

Something I have noticed on past visits is that Ohana will offer to bring your child something like pb&j or mac and cheese if they're not enjoying the meal.

I've never noticed that at Boma. I'm not saying they don't do it, just never noticed it happening.

Our kids are not super picky and enjoyed both places, but I think Boma was more to humor me. They've never asked to go back there and they request Ohana each and every trip.

My kids love Boma and have never had a shortage of things they love on the buffet.

They also LOVE LOVE LOVE Ohana!

I, too, found the breakfast selection at Boma's more appetizing than the dinner selection. I thought it was just because I was vegetarian at the time, but it looks like that may have nothing to do with it.

I liked the breakfast selection for both Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace (probably CP a little more).

Hey I am the girl that will eat about anything but I just did not care for BOMA and will not return different strokes for different folks but if I had to say I would choose Ohana we had a great time !the advantage at Boma it does have nuggets and mac and cheese on the buffett for the kids but I do think that you can order the same at Ohana!

The kids are vegetarians. And they eat pretty much, an all raw diet. Except they both love pizza. So I am hoping some places will accomodate. I am worried about Boma and I think I will cancel. Has anyone ever walked in to LTT for lunch? I think that would maybe be a better choice for our last TS. Thanks guys.......;)

Vegetarian? Well you can skip Ohana's then. I don't recall seeing any vegetables besides the salad.
Shrimp, chicken, beef, pork, sausage = :thumbsup2

We stayed at AKL for 21 nights so we had breakfast a Boma quite a lot and our kids liked it there for breaky but they had the standard, mickey waffles and maple syrup etc, there was a mixture of things there and we found it to be a little more healthy than some of the other breakfasts. We ate there for dinner only once on our 21 nights and I was not that fussed to be honest, the atmosphere was ok but I didn't enjoy the food that much.

We did the Lilo and Stich character breakfast at Ohana's and LOVED it. It was so much fun, one of our favourite character meals for the whole trip actually and we did a lot of them.

We ate at Boma and Ohana on our last trip with our Grand Gathering with 2 children ages 5 and 9. The children loved the activities at Ohana, and the food was the best meal that we had on our 10 day trip. Boma was also high up on our list when we return next Sept 2009. The kids loved the food at Boma since it was a buffet, we were on the DDP and my kids were tired of mac and cheese and other fast food after 10 days.
