Oh Yeah, V's At It Again! A May 2007 Pre-Trip Report

Well, it’s almost time to blow this Popsicle stand. Get outta Dodge. Take the money and run. Hit the road Jack. Make our way in The World.

What I’m trying to say is this: We’re going to Disney World!!!

Everything’s ready for car-loading Monday night and we’ll leave at the ridiculous hour of 6am Tuesday.

I know what you’re thinking: “But V – you live less than 2 hours away? What would possess you to leave so freking early???”



Oh, that’s not what you’re thinking? Too bad, that’s what I’m answering.

See, we have possibly the nation’s worst Interstate system round these parts. No loop. Only one Interstate flowing North-South to serve the most populated area in Florida. It’s the only means of getting to I-4, (otherwise known as the Road to Mickey), yet another straight-line Interstate that funnels an insane amount of traffic between Orlando and the Tampa Bay region. Come 7am, both Interstates are total log-jams. Being stuck in that is NOT my idea of a vacation. And leaving later is not an option – that’s half a day of touring down the drain! So V and Family shall set out at 6am. ish.

I’ve been talking with D regularly and she’s getting ready, too. Yes, she has a list, though not a spread sheet. She felt mine was plenty. Smart lady. I’m still trying to sell her on the comfort that is Crocs. She’s shopping even as we speak, so time will tell.

D and B took a little trip to Ohana last week to have breakfast with an old friend. D called me from there to report on B’s reaction to Pluto and Stitch….. NOT good. He was “okay” with Mickey and Lilo, but was not at all impressed by the others. I reassured her that character interaction will be limited on our trip, and only at the willingness of our kiddos. Leo only has eyes for the Mickster, too.

E, I suspect, is a tad worried about all this. Though she’s logged some WDW time, the fact that a spread sheet even exists for this is a tad off-putting to her. It’s okay. That was my reaction the first time I read an Unofficial Guide. We all learn as we go.

Leo has gone from excited, to elated, to frustrated. The days on the calendar (real, not Fuzzy, TFI) haven’t been moving quickly enough for him. But he, too, has been planning: just the other night, he rattled off his “favorites” while in the bath tub – BTMRR, Buzz, Pooh, Barnstormer, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise. No problem – I’ve got them all in The Plan!

Gramma…. I have no idea what page she’s on. She seems to be excited about a vacation, but not delighted with the venue. Will this be the trip in which she makes the turn to the Disney side? Stay tuned to find out!

And that’s it! I have no further drama (yet) to speak of. We’re just plain ready already.

By all means, avail yourselves of this open thread and feel free to run amuck all you want! Go off topic. Start a new tangent. Forget about life for a while. Have a good time at my expense.

Thanks to everyone – posters and lurkers alike – for hanging with me as I’ve planned this exciting adventure. It wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without all of you! And. I’ll miss you all next week. I’ll be thinking of you as I give the 21 Lapu Lapu salute to the Mactans. And probably also as I spend the night on the bathroom floor following said salute.

Hey, V...........I wanted to quote you but......429 is supposed to be complete down to I-4 by now??? This is from Florida Expressway Authority web site:

SR 429 Part C
State Road 429 (Western Expressway) Construction
Construction on State Road 429 is now complete south of County Road 535 to State Road 192. In December 2006 State Road 429 is scheduled to be completed to I-4 in Osceola County. That portion of State Road 429 is being built in partnership with Florida's Turnpike Enterprise. CLICK HERE to view a map of the project.

If it's open....take it. It's completely deserted and you enter right through the arches. Western Way comes out right between CSR and AK.

Yeah! I finally got to read your pre-TR before you left. (I have been meaning to read it for a week or so now, even subscribed but never had time to read until today!)

Have a great trip and I cant wait to hear all about it. I loved your other TR's so I expect nothing less missy! You inspired me to plan a trip for Sept with Amanda without my H...of course I will have lots of other people with me, Peeps actually, but still no help per se.

And we never did see a pic of the new hair you now dont like......just sayin
