Oh Yeah, V's At It Again! A May 2007 Pre-Trip Report

Ok, funny story time:

At one of the high schools in the next county (Johnston), everyone arrived at school one morning to find that someone had used Liquid Nails to seal all of the exterior doors shut....of the entire school. I know it's not funny, but... :lmao:

OMG, that's so funny! :rotfl2: And totally something that could've happened at my school....

:offtopic:
Okay, I went to a very small private school - 300 total enrollment PreK-12th - so students and teachers knew each other very well by senior year. And every year, the Sr. class had Senior Prank, which took place the night before the last day of school and the class took the last day off. Most years it was innocuous enough, though the pranks were always tailored to each teacher's personality and alwasy funny. But the class before mine - oooo-eeeee the things they did!:scared1:

*Moved the soccer goal nets from the lower field to the roof of the high school building.
* Lined the high school stairwell with plastic, then filled it with motor oil and BB pellets.
*Dumped a pile of manure into one classroom.
* Filled another room with dead fish and baby oil.
* Moved the Head of Upper School's ENTIRE office onto the courtyard outside the building.

Tradition also had it that the rest of the school, who did show up for that last day, cleaned up form the Sr's prank. We all took one look at this mess and said "NO STINKIN WAY!" and went home.

Needless to say, Senior Prank was canceled by the time my class were Seniors.:sad2:

Okay, now I'm off to color my hair!

wow, those were some pretty serious pranks! I went to a small private school until 6th grade.(you can imagine my first dose of public school) Anyhow, I don't recall the seniors having a prank day. They did have to become parents....of a plant. They had to take them everywhere. They would put them in wagons and pulled them around campus; some even had little clothes around their pots.

We just had eggs and flour being chucked around, I hated the last day of term!!!!!

Have you finished your hair yet???? :lmao:

:rotfl2: Those are great, but I do feel for those who had to clean that up!!
When I went to school, we didn't have senior prank day, we had Senior Ditch Day. All the senior class wouldn't show up to school on one day, but we'd all go to one persons house and have a party. This threw the whole school off
as the faculty went house to house in search of the ditchers! :teeth:

I was the proud parent of twin eggs. It was for some stupid elective class I took to kill time. :confused3

Add some shaving cream filled balloons to that!! :rotfl: I loved the last day! All the crazy running around, smacking people in the head with shaving cream balloons! Yeah, I was obnoxious, in High School.... wait... I still am! :lmao:

Well, it’s almost time to blow this Popsicle stand. Get outta Dodge. Take the money and run. Hit the road Jack. Make our way in The World.

What I’m trying to say is this: We’re going to Disney World!!!

Everything’s ready for car-loading Monday night and we’ll leave at the ridiculous hour of 6am Tuesday.

I know what you’re thinking: “But V – you live less than 2 hours away? What would possess you to leave so freking early???”:confused3

Oh, that’s not what you’re thinking? Too bad, that’s what I’m answering.

See, we have possibly the nation’s worst Interstate system round these parts. No loop. Only one Interstate flowing North-South to serve the most populated area in Florida. It’s the only means of getting to I-4, (otherwise known as the Road to Mickey), yet another straight-line Interstate that funnels an insane amount of traffic between Orlando and the Tampa Bay region. Come 7am, both Interstates are total log-jams. Being stuck in that is NOT my idea of a vacation. :headache: And leaving later is not an option – that’s half a day of touring down the drain! So V and Family shall set out at 6am. ish.

I’ve been talking with D regularly and she’s getting ready, too. Yes, she has a list, though not a spread sheet. She felt mine was plenty. Smart lady. I’m still trying to sell her on the comfort that is Crocs. She’s shopping even as we speak, so time will tell.

D and B took a little trip to Ohana last week to have breakfast with an old friend. D called me from there to report on B’s reaction to Pluto and Stitch….. NOT good. :scared1: He was “okay” with Mickey and Lilo, but was not at all impressed by the others. I reassured her that character interaction will be limited on our trip, and only at the willingness of our kiddos. Leo only has eyes for the Mickster, too.

E, I suspect, is a tad worried about all this. Though she’s logged some WDW time, the fact that a spread sheet even exists for this is a tad off-putting to her. It’s okay. That was my reaction the first time I read an Unofficial Guide. We all learn as we go.:teacher:

Leo has gone from excited, to elated, to frustrated. The days on the calendar (real, not Fuzzy, TFI) haven’t been moving quickly enough for him. But he, too, has been planning: just the other night, he rattled off his “favorites” while in the bath tub – BTMRR, Buzz, Pooh, Barnstormer, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise. No problem – I’ve got them all in The Plan!:cool1:

Gramma…. I have no idea what page she’s on. She seems to be excited about a vacation, but not delighted with the venue. Will this be the trip in which she makes the turn to the Disney side? Stay tuned to find out!

And that’s it! I have no further drama (yet) to speak of. We’re just plain ready already.

By all means, avail yourselves of this open thread and feel free to run amuck all you want! Go off topic. Start a new tangent. Forget about life for a while. Have a good time at my expense.

‘Cause I’m not coming back with a TR. Here.

But I’ll supply a link to it on its new thread once it’s up and running! ;)

Thanks to everyone – posters and lurkers alike – for hanging with me as I’ve planned this exciting adventure. It wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without all of you! :grouphug: And. I’ll miss you all next week. I’ll be thinking of you as I give the 21 Lapu Lapu salute to the Mactans. And probably also as I spend the night on the bathroom floor following said salute.

Bad hair? I use Dove Moisturizing shampoo & conditioner to flatten out my "mom poof" 'do.

Pal Mickey? Is he invited on this trip?

Driving directions?? Is 429 completed down to I-4?? The Disney exit off 429 comes out right by AKL.

Have fun, sweet girl!!! Wish I was going with ya! :wave2:

I'm moving her down to the TR Board, hopefully she will find it when she returns.
Thank OhMari! Though I'll be starting a new thread for the big TR - you know, in case I pick up any new readers who don't want to slog through our 8 page discussion on What to Do with V's Hair! :rotfl:
Bad hair? I use Dove Moisturizing shampoo & conditioner to flatten out my "mom poof" 'do. I usedto use Dove, but they changed the formula and it's not working as well. Know what I jsut started using and really like? Paul Mitchell Color Care conditioner - good stuff!

Pal Mickey? Is he invited on this trip? Shhh... don't tell, but I've got Pal stashed in Leo's suitcase!

Driving directions?? Is 429 completed down to I-4?? The Disney exit off 429 comes out right by AKL. Ah, but I'm coming form the southwest. Nothing but I-4 or the Polk Parkway to choose form. :sad2:

Have fun, sweet girl!!! Wish I was going with ya! :wave2:
Thanks Melinda! I'll take you with me in spirit :goodvibes

Hi Trentmom and WELCOME!! Thanks so much - I can't wait to get there!

Before I get into this one, I must comment on what I’ve been reading while writing this. Seems like every TR and pre-TR I’ve read recently, the writer was at the same stage I’m at now – Pre Trip Shopping! I’m at once heartened and a little disturbed that we’re all in the same boat. I mean, how is it that Disney has us so well-trained that we begin emptying our pockets MONTHS before entering those gates?! Has Mickey infiltrated the public water systems across the nation? Anyway, here’s my version…

Seems we all have those “must-buy” items to pick up before our pilgrimage to The Mouse, and I’m no exception.

Yes. Despite living less than two hours away from said Mouse. And. Visiting him several times a year.

I know.

I should have everything I need by now, right. Sadly, I can always find something new, or more accurately, a new “need” to fill. And this trip seems to have more than the usual amount of “needed” accoutrements… as evidenced by the number of dollars each fine retail establishment has charged to my Disney Visa. (Gotta get those points!:thumbsup2 ) Just for kicks, I’ll list them with one $ per item…

Gifts. No, not souvenirs to bring back for family and friends. To be honest, I’ve done away with that. I mean, really, I’m there like 2-3 times a year minimum. How many Mickey tea towels do my co-workers really need, right?:confused3

No, I’m talking gifts for my fellow travelers. I already mentioned wanting to do something special in recognition of B’s first trip to The World. I put together a gift bag with all a one year old needs to properly experience WDW:
461433823_ed977fc2ac.jpg

It includes his very first Mickey ears, (personalized, of course) and a 2007 official name badge. A trip to the Disney Store brought back a toddler-appropriate stuffed Mickey and a set of Pooh snack containers. I ordered a onesie with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gang on front and “Magical Memories” on the back. And teeny, tiny sunglasses to protect B’s sparkling blues.

I couldn’t very well leave Leo out, now could I? He’ll also receive a 2007 official name badge and a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Tshirt. And, while I was at it, I had a tiki Minnie Tshirt made for me, too.
461425744_08e003ae35.jpg

Since we’ll be celebrating Leo’s birthday at WDW, I went about getting some gifts for that, too: Little Einstein’s CD and Tshirt, Hot Wheels watch, Toy Story video game, two books and a tube-o-pirates.

Shoes. Okay, here I’ll admit I have a problem. I looooove my shoes.

461433611_987f985d4f.jpg

Carrie Bradshaw is my hero. I have a Shoe of the Day desk calendar. I fantasize about the day I can afford a pair of Manolos. If or when I ever evacuate, my shoe collection gets packed first. I really love my shoes.

But, here’s the thing – all my really good shoes are work shoes. That’s where I spend most of my time. And. Let’s be honest, the cutest shoes are usually the least comfortable. Since I sit at a desk all day, I can get away with my cute little foot-torture-devices.

What I mean is this… I did NOT have cute shoes for Disney. My weekend shoes are flips. Cute, but not good for walking an area equivalent in size to San Francisco - for a week straight. I did have my one pair of lime green Crocs. Not so cute, but always comfy. I wound up wearing them most of our December trip. I really did try to convince myself that one pair of Crocs and some flips for evenings would be sufficient.

And I would’ve gotten away with it, too.
If it weren’t for you meddling kids! Zoinks!

Oh, sorry.

I’d have been just fine, had I not entered the Crocs store, (conveniently located a block from my house, TFI), in search of Mickey Crocs for Leo. While he tried on his choice – lime green!:thumbsup2 – I perused the Nile model. Hmmm. They were a lot cuter in person than online. Leo saved me that day – he was in a foul mood and we left as soon as I got his Crocs paid for.

$ Crocs store

Leo showed off his new Mickey Crocs to D the next weekend. She commented on how cute they were and how she’d seen them on a little girl B’s age and thought about getting him some when he started to walk.

Yep, I went back to my local Crocs store the following weekend to get B a pair of tiny little Mickey Crocs. Alone. Unsupervised. All by myself… don’t wanna be… all by myseeeelf…

I left with a pair for B.
And. A pair of Niles. And a pair of Mary Janes.
For me.

They were sooo cute, I just couldn’t resist. And I rationalized it like this: flips really aren’t very good for my feet, so I’ll wear these Crocs all summer instead! The Crocs store lady helped with that thought process. TFI.

Here they all are, in their glory:

Clothes. Now, Disneyland_Mama asked in her pre-trippie recently if anyone buys a new wardrobe for their WDW trip. And I admitted, that, yes, I kind of did this time. Again, despite already living in Florida. I’ll blame work once more for this.

Technically, I do own some shorts and Tshirts. Exactly enough for a long weekend. ‘Cause the rest of my time is spent at work, in an air conditioned office. And I did already own a couple swimsuits, but they’re two years old – down here, that’s a looong life for a swimsuit and they’re both pretty worn out.

So when Old Navy had a sale, I stocked up on new T’s. 2 for $10? I stocked WAY up. :cool1:
Yeah, and I got Leo a couple T’s too. And the one pair of Bermuda shorts they had left in my size.

Target helped me out with two more pair of shorts, a surfer T for Leo, and a Hawaiian short for him to wear to Ohanas. And some new pajama bottoms for V. I like new PJ’s for vacations, too.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Old Navy
$$$$$$ Target

I also did some swimsuit shopping. For the 5th straight year I bought a cheap(er) suit at Target and hated it after wearing it once. I finally smartened up and dropped the money for two good suits that are cute AND will cover all rear-view parts, AND will last through more than 3 months of salt, chlorine and sun.

DIS Stuff.
This part actually wasn’t so bad! I liberated some LGMH’s from Home Depot for free and bought a couple Team Focker Watch lanyards. That’s it! I already had my LGMH cutouts for windows, strollers and backpacks.

Bags. You read that right – bags. Plural. Because my Baggallini from last September is the pits. No good at all when I have to hyperextend my shoulders to get it on and off for each ride.

I found the perfect mini backpack while in Buffalo this January. Compartments for everything, water bottle pocket, secret pocket for, well… secret stuff. And. Bonus… it was on sale! :woohoo:

Then I went to WDW for a day and saw a woman carrying one of those Vera Bradley-style quilted bags. It, too, was a mini backpack style. Just the right size and shape. And. It was lime green. With little periwinkle flowers.

I had a mission. After much Googling and searching, I found it and – voila! – I now have two bags from which to choose each day!

I would have to cancel my trip, to afford all of that!!!!!
