Oh, the weather outside is frightful....

Kevrab:
Just curious--there is a BIG dufference between 12 and 24 inches of snow. Are the forecasts there always that "all inclusive"??
And how much did you actually get?

Alot of the snow we get is lake effect. We live about an hour east of Lake Michigan and when and where the lake effect bands set up (the wind direction and intensity) determines the snow amount. We've had one storm last year where Kalamazoo, which is twenty miles west of here, got 14" of snow and we got nothing.

So, basically, the National Weather Service just gives a broad estimate when we are under lake effect warnings.

Right now we've got about 6 inches with it supposed to snow all day Friday and Saturday.

Well, Thursday and Friday we got about 6 inches, but looks like that was just the beginning. Our "BIG" one is coming up from the gulf (we always get our worst storms from the south). Problem around here is that the kids will be out of school for a week or more if we get a lot of snow. With the mountains here it is very difficult to get the roads clear. Not looking forward to a week with three pre-teens/teens who are already bored:headache: I love my kids but I can't get them to watch Disney movies on snow days like they did when they were little  Then if we lose power...

Everyone getting ready for the big storm to hit the NY/NJ area this week? We are scheduled for snow Tuesday night through Wednesday. They're saying a foot of snow, at the very least. We are also expecting snow Sunday and Monday. Wowsers, what a winter!

Hoping it's a fake out like this past weekend. Our niece is getting married on Saturday,

Ok, I have to know- what do the kids do at recess when it is so cold out in places it snows? Last Friday we never even got out of the 40's and the kids were so cold we had to open up the room at recess so they could choose to play inside or out. We had to eat lunch inside too and then went out for a little bit to run around after. Do kids who live in the cold stay inside at school all winter or do they really bundle up. Just wondering, especially what preschools do.

We bundle them up and play outside in the 30-40's. I really had to laugh when my friend from WI informed me that they don't go out for recess if it is below ZERO!!!!

That is how it was growing up in Michigan. We just made sure to have our snow pants on!

Below zero!? Our school would probably be canceled if it was that cold! :rotfl: I suppose kids there have warmer clothes. Some of the kids on Friday only had a sweater! It was freezing. I don't know what some parents were thinking. :confused3
