Oh the Tragedy! No Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake this time! Updates x 5 9/30

I really need to add Kona café to the list. it is making me wish I was in Disney right now for breakfast

Wonderful! I have had the pleasure of dining at Kona for dinner several times. I really need to try breakfast! The macadamia pancakes look outstanding, but the Samoan sounds good from the menu.

We love dinner there too! Returning for both breakfast and dinner next month! :)

That's one great reason to wake up and head to breakfast ... Those wonderful fluffy ooy gooy pineapple pancakes!! Yep that's my new name for them : ) I so need to try them and get off the fried Tonga Toast Train I've been on for way too many years. Beautiful breakfast reminds me of Maui : )

Seeing your review of Kona makes me anticipate our upcoming reservation there with my parents as well. It is my Mom's favorite location to eat at Disney.

Oh yum, those pancakes look GOOD!! And Michael's choice actually looks pretty good too --- anything with goat cheese gets a :thumbsup2 in my book!

So on my we are going to disney in 3 months must lose weight kick and just finished a not so fulfilling black bean chili "dinner". Then I come on here and even an egg white omelet looks good. But in my current state of carb withdrawal I could seriously kill for just a bite of those pancakes. They look wicked good.

I have heard those pancakes are amazing. Cynthia and I were hoping to get there this past trip, but it just didn't work out. Despite that we did manage a couple of yummy breakfasts including the one at Olivias. yum!

I'm really enjoying reading your reviews. My husband and I were just there May 3-10 and I wanted to do a dining review but just keep putting it off.

Jiko is our fave signature and Kona Cafe the best breakfast ever. Love Yak & Yeti, too. This is strange, but the table you are seated at in Kona Cafe is the same table DH and I sat at. I recognized it right away.

Looking forward to more reviews.

Just found your review. Love it, Love it, Love it.

I am trying to convince DH to go back to Jiko in October. He loves to eat on vacation. He does not like small portions. Your report is not helping my cause, unfortunately.

Too bad about Yachtsman. We used to really like it there, but have not gone back in years. Once we discovered there is a Ruths Chris steak house near WDW, we have not gone back. Olivia's Cafe suprisingly has a good steak, at half the price almost.

I made your beloved pancakes the other day from a recipe online. It was awesome. Love the pineapple sauce. If mine were that good, I can't imagine the yumminess of Kona's.

Can't wait for the rest of your report.

Yum those pancakes remind me of what I have eaten on past trips to Hawaii. Your so famous you get recognized on WDW property you rock star you ;)

brenda, I hardly ate any of the mashed potatos or veggies, mostly just the steak. (the potatos had too much horseradish for me anyway) I did take a couple bites of the dessert, since it came with the DDP anyway.

that kona menu looks great.w e have only eaten there for dinner. not a very good value for the dining plan, but out of pocket? some of those prices aren't much differen from some breakfast prices back home at a family restaurant!

our last trip, we were talking to the reservation Cm at Prime Time Cafe, when a guy ran up and said "Nebo! you're Nebo and Smidgy!" and once before recognized in a DSA at AK. but naturally when our son's family was with us... not one recognition..:sad2: we wanted to impress our grandson.

hhmm, I would have a hard time choosing between TOnga toast and pineapple macadamia pancakes!

I'm a few updates behind, so going back to ...

Tusker House: Awesome photos of the various buffet offerings and I completely understand separating sweet/savoury/syrup items. These things will not mingle on my plate either. :crazy2: Love the various character photos and I'm still laughing about the impending duck groping (cue the Jaws soundtrack). :rotfl2:

Yak & Yeti: Wait a second here ... no Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake AND no Cream Cheese Wontons?!? :sad2: I think we need to have a serious talk Brenda! Michael's salad looks really good though!

:scared1: When did they start serving shoe leather at YSH? I'm so surprised that any restaurant, let alone a Signature, would allow a plate that looked like that to leave the kitchen.

Kona Cafe: Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes = :cloud9: I'm so happy you got to enjoy them this trip! :thumbsup2

Ok, all caught up again and looking forward to the next instalment! :goodvibes

Mmm Michael's breakfas looks amazing! Love a good egg white omelette to start the morning-- Kona seems like just a good, dependable option.
Can't wait for more, as always :-)

MMMM, that omelet looks so good. I will never be able to make up my mind as to what to get when I get to Kona. Decisions, Decisions.

We had our first ever breakfast at Kona Cafe in February this year and now I kind of wish I'd tried the macadamia pancakes over the Tonga Toast. DD and I traded with each other on 1/2 order of Tonga Toast with 1/2 order of the ham and cheese omelet.

We both liked the Tonga Toast but didn't LOVE it. Glad I tried it, but I definitely see an order of the pancakes in my future.

We also love Tusker House breakfast and half of us actually went twice. The first reservation was requested by DD, Pie but she was ill that morning so Dude and I kept the reservation and then made another one a few days later.

DH might have answered the "do you love Disney as much as..." question almost as nicely but more likely would have said he tolerates it for the rest of us. Big points for Michael's answer! I think some mom/kid trips may be on our horizon as they are getting older.

Looking forward to the rest of your review (always lurk and love them but don't know that I've ever actually posted on one!)

I'm here …. better late than never ;)
I'm happy that you enjoyed the wine at Jiko and thanks to Barb for helping me out with my little surprise.
Hmmm …. another below par experience at YSH. It seems that something is not quite right in the kitchen at this restaurant lately :rolleyes2
You've just made me want to try and get a Kona breakfast ADR for October by the way :goodvibes

We ate at Tusker house this morning for the first time and really liked it. And your Kona report just made me add that to our breakfast rotation this week! Yummy! So excited!

I love breakfast at Kona!!! That french press coffee is the best at WDW in my opinion. Last time, I tried to convince DH that we should order two different things and split them. I really wanted Tonga Toast AND also to try the pineapple macadamia pancakes. But DH just wanted tonga toast. So we both got tonga toast. This time I'm going to try to convince him to share both instead...I'm gonna go with this: "come on, we both had tonga toast last time, let's have an old favorite AND try something new that we can't get anywhere else! ;)

If not, I will probably suck it up and just get the macadamia pineapple pancakes since I do what to try them. And "steal" a bite of his tonga toast! ;)

Hey, I wonder if they would sub tonga toast for the regular french toast on the Big Kahuna, for an extra charge. I'd totally be willing to do that so I could have botht hat and the pancakes!

First I'd start with bribing your DH to split something and if that doesn't work I think you're on to something with your suggestion to upgrade the Big Kahuna to include Tonga Toast. Either way, I wish you success in your venture!

Kona breakfast is our family favourite. I personally go for the Tonga toast but DH loves the pancakes.

I'm good for a few bites of tonga toast but I can't abandon my love for those pancakes!

Wonderful! I have had the pleasure of dining at Kona for dinner several times. I really need to try breakfast! The macadamia pancakes look outstanding, but the Samoan sounds good from the menu.

The Samoan is definitely something that fits in nicely with the theme of the restaurant. The only time I've dined with anyone that ordered the Samoan the Hollandaise was curdled and inedible. That may not happen often but still...Not to wreak it for you. :)

I really need to add Kona café to the list. it is making me wish I was in Disney right now for breakfast

You should! It is my favorite breakfast restaurant in all of WDW.

Those pancakes look soooooooooooooooo good!!! I bet the pictures don't even do it justice, lol.

You've got that right! The photos can't tell the yummy story of these things!

im in! great so far looking forward to more x

Thanks summersun! I'm glad you are joining in. Welcome! :goodvibes

Anything ooey and gooey I take notice of! It's hard to shift to something new when you are a faithful Tonga Toast fan. Maybe next time you can jump off that train and join my pancake fan club. ;)

Seeing your review of Kona makes me anticipate our upcoming reservation there with my parents as well. It is my Mom's favorite location to eat at Disney.

Your mom has good taste Karla! Kona is my favorite place for breakfast too!

Oh yum, those pancakes look GOOD!! And Michael's choice actually looks pretty good too --- anything with goat cheese gets a :thumbsup2 in my book!

Oh, they are good Julie! Michael's choice was perfect for him since he was going healthy. I go back and forth with being a fan and not so much a fan of goat cheese.

Oh my! Sorry to subject you to torture with those wicked good pancakes! :rotfl2: They are awesome but if you want to kill anything for them just leave my name out of it ok? :lmao:
