Oh Sweet Mother of Bread Pudding...What have I got myself into? 9/26 Update!

I know you've heard it a million times by now, but I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. I'll be sending good thoughts to her family.

Hm...Raglan Road. It's definitely not some place I would've thought of going to eat. I definitely need to check it out on my next trip though.

When I read about people's experiences with egg rolls, I always think "what the heck is an egg roll?" When I see pictures, I swear they look like spring rolls to me. I think I need to have one to see if it really is a spring roll by another name. This coming from a girl raised with Chinese food.

Hm....hoisin bbq sauce on ribs? That's interesting....I know I LOVE the sticky sweet asian bbq on asian-style cooked ribs, but I would never have thought of using hoisin sauce.

What is an American Kobe beef? Do they try to mimick massaging the cows by showing them vidoes of the cows in Kobe? Why add Kobe at all? Besides, I've had real kobe beef, and it definitely would not make a good burger, yet people keep making kobe burgers. I don't get it.

Can you only get those biscuits and gravy in that food court? I'm not sure cause I've never really eaten at the resort food court before.

I was right there, enjoying the reviews, until they took a nasty turn and you confused Paula Deen with Dr. Laura. I would add more, but I'd just get a warning from a moderator.

LOL............I love egg rolls.....the wrap is much heavier than a spring roll (it's an egg noodle) the inside is pretty much the same

:grouphug: so sorry about your friend and having to deal with allthats been going on. I've been enjoying your reviews and hope you'll come back to do some more when you're ready.

Okay???!!! Weird.

Anyway, Dawn I hope everything is ok with you. I hope you make it back to the DIS soon. We are missing you over here.

I must have missed something. What?

For those wondering why I have been absent - I have been trying to get caught up with the TR portion so I can write daily and both threads be at the same spot. Obviously the TR has more detail and longer writing because it covers a whole days adventure, not just a few hours during meals in the day. I will be caught up today and can then start posting on both and not confuse readers about which day what was happening on.

I have to admit - I fell in love writing about the food and think I have a new passion and might have to cut back on the TR's. Or just do one at a time not try and do both because it is hard to switch the head from reviewing on a Food Thread to re-writing memories on a TR.

***As for the comment about Dr. Laura - I have a few choice words for you as well, hiding behind a keyboard, critiquing someone for the way they express themselves.

I am passionate. I will not apologize to you or anybody else for that.

I link the food reviews for those that strictly want to read the dining piece.

I write pieces of my life in the space in between because I believe that knowing my values, my heart, my passion, will help those who want more than a surface level review, know where I write from.

Eating & dining is more than about the food.

More than the caloric intake.

It is an experience that is universally common and at the same time, uniquely private.

Someone who eats at a restaurant and only values the name above the door and looking forward to a write up in the society page the next morning on the who's who eating where, is not going to get me to give a cr@p on what they think, what they enjoy or what they liked about a restaurant.

Someone who has a love for fine dining and treats people with a lesser paycheck as trash, will never get my reading time or appreciation.

I personally want to know the behind the scenes about the writers here because it gives me insight into what makes them enjoy or not, what they eat or where they eat.

I care about the people in my life. I care about the time it takes to create a dining dance on the table. I care about the subtleties of a server, noticing your water glass is near empty, or asking if you would like lemon on the side with your water, without being asked.

So no, I did not confuse Paula Deen with Dr. Laura.

Paula Deen brings her family and her friends into her kitchen. She shares stories of their lives, laughs with their jokes and creates an environment you know is more than Chicken ala King, deep. She has talked about recipes that came from people passed away and her magazine is chalk full of passion and love for the people who have loved her or whom she loves back.

Cooking is an extension of emotion in the heart. Every person here has a comfort food they turn to or a celebratory meal they enjoy. It tells their stories and makes them unique.

I will not apologize for being sad Vicki is not here to make her sons breakfast on a school day. I will not apologize for needing a moment to let readers know about my grief. Maybe if they know my emotional place, they will understand better why I have sop much appreciation for a delightful dinner at Raglan Road, surrounded by family and strangers who for one night, are together in laughter and love of great food and good music.

Passion for family and friends have given me the patience to learn how to give love through my cooking and care to detail in these reviews of ALL the pieces that matter. I do not know how to turn my passion on and off and if you don't like it, there is nothing stopping you from leaving.

If you choose to write differently than myself, or read someone else and their writing style, so be it and good luck. I never claimed to be anything else besides a foodie who through friends and family, has established a love for the whole dining experience. Who would I be inside if I only took cooking lessons and recipes from a friend and not acknowledge sorrow at her passing?

The mere fact you had the instinct to write such hateful and hurtful words makes me feel sorry for you. I don't know what it is like to live a life with nothing better to do than criticize a free forum with writers not getting paid, hoping someone can get something from their experiences and maybe use what they learned from me to better their own vacations.

Thank you for those who responded in support but the truth is, there will always be people who seek attention in tearing other apart. I am just grateful that my heart and my head is not in that place because it has to be pretty lonely.

Keep writing please! WE love it!!! And just forget about the fuddy-dud. No one has to agree with your choice of 'people' that you equate to 'ratings' as long as you define the rating system (and you have - and whether or not we agree, it is funny and cute and makes the reading enjoyable!) Makes me mad :headache: when people interject such things when you are writing this so we can enjoy it.

I'm excited to see what's coming up next - thank you for continuing to write!

 Well put......

I personally love your writing, you have such talent and can express more than I could ever do. You truely are blessed. Have you ever thought of being a writer?

(PS: my favorite are your KAVORKA moments) :teeth:

I believe the poster was commenting on the fact that I wrote about things more than just a food review not her view of who I was using as a rating system.

Because if I am wrong and she was just that angry about how I rated food, that would require a whole new response and make me even more baffled than I was with my understanding of her post!

I forgot to mention how beautiful Carsyon is she did look like a princess! So glad they had a magical time. Thanks for sharing the pictures! My son is a senior this year too and I find myself crying at the oddest times I start thinking of when he was little and memories come flooding to my mind and well you know us mothers we can't hold it in......

I realize I live under a rock sometimes, but I totally missed the Paula vs Laura match... And I had to google to see who Dr Laura was... Still confused as to what she has to do with cooking...

But that aside, Dawn, I LOVE :cloud9: the way you write and who cares what anyone else thinks... The only person you need to please is YOURSELF!!!

And if they don't like the way you write, then they need to QUIT READING!!! DUH!!!

So keep up the amazing writing, you are a very talented lady... :thumbsup2

And this rock is here to stay!!! popcorn::

I think that particular poster was refering to Dawn's post on her wonderful friend who has just passed. KWIM

Makes me so mad

Like I said Dawn you are a talented writer and I thank you for choosing to share your friends story with us. I work in radiation/oncology and understand completely why you would want to write about her. I see peronally what families, friends and loved ones go through daily let alone patients that are here for treatment everyday. Some patients see happy results where others are heartwrenching to watch.....

Well that's even worse! An unfeeling fuddy-dud.

No worries from the rest of us - we are here for you and look forward to when you are able to write more!
