Oh pooh - my dryer just broke

I think it's the belt. It's at least 20 years old and will cost between $100-$175 to fix it. I'm thinking a new one will be more energy efficient. I wanted one that had the steam but you need a water line hook-up. I guess I'll just go for the basics and see what I can find. I think I have a coupon for Lowes.

I don't know if you can hold out for 10 days, but there are three nice-looking sets in Home Depots Black Friday ads.

My friend bought one with steam. I think they ended up putting a splitter on the water line normally used for the washer. Whatever they did, I know it wasn't a big deal.

If you want to buy yourself some time to research and find just the right dryer, you can look for a cheap used washer on Ebay or craigslist to hold you over. We got a $75 used washer that way about 3 years ago and it still runs great. Actually it's the nicest washer I've ever had, and decided to keep it rather than buy a new front loader.

Mine just broke too! Must be something in the air...
We ended up getting the exact same cheapie $325 GE to replace it with as the last one we had lasted 7 years. I love the look of the new ones but we have to be super frugal at the moment.

Basic may be better: If you are looking for a new dryer, it seems like everyone I know who got the fancy dancy 9 million buttons dryers have not liked them. The more electronics on it, the more it needs service/repair. I've had several friends return theirs with problems and go back to the basic models.
