Hi guys,
I asked a little while back for some help with lighting for pet portraits but I cant find my thread! :confused3

So. I have to take some portraits of dogs to raise some money for my doggy rescue centre. our idea is to run a pet portrait competition.

I have a white backdrop but no lighting and hardly any budget for lighting.

I will have to use our training hall which is lit from skylights in the roof. If its a dull day (most are here) it will be very dark.

do i need continuous lighting or flash? (leaning more towards continuous as the flash might scare some of the dogs)

umbrellas or softboxes.??

I really know nothing and am running out of time to get things sorted.. :upsidedow

OP has already posted a link to your orginal thread for you, but I just wanted to tell you how you find your posts. Just click on your screen name (Wrn-Tom) in the upper left corner of your screen and a drop down box will appear. One of your choices is (Find other posts by Wen-Tom).:thumbsup2

One of the local posters has shared pictures of his family from a setup he has done on his own at home. Surprisingly, his lighting consisted of a utility light from Lowe's with a soft white bulb in it. I believe he stated it was only about $20. His pictures of his children were warm and looked pretty good for the equipment he had used.

I'll try and find that thread with pictures he posted.

thank you, that would be really helpful. i am considering "making" something as my budget really is nil! I was thinking of some builders type of lights that clamp and some daylight equivalent bulbs but I am so clueless that i have no idea whether it would work!

Whatever lighting you decide to go with, make sure you do a custom white balance...take a photo of a grey card...and that will help a lot with post processing and getting the color right.
