We have our trips paid for, thank goodness. But my oldest daughter is going with two of her friends to Disneyland in 21 days and they need to pay off their hotel... They are starving students;), every $10 helps!!:lmao:

I know.... Thank goodness I caught the dollar the day before it fell a couple cents... I had to pay my DVC purchase, it would have made about $200 difference! It's a small fraction, but I'd rather have it in my pocket than elsewhere :)

I hate the fluctuating dollar! We just made a payment when the dollar was par, but still have a good chunk left. We don't have to pay in full though until August so we can still hold off a bit.

I know I tried to pay for my meal plan when the dollar was par and was told I had to do it at check in and now look:mad:

you should have just changed the money over to USD when it was at par and put it aside till your trip

According to the evening news, it's all because of Greece. If they just paid their taxes, they would not be in this situation. When 80% of the population does not pay up, you're destined for major trouble.
Wonder if they are willing to pay up now?:confused3

Pretty sure it is the PIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Spain and Greece) situation in Europe, which has caused problems with the value of the Euro as well. Our caisse pop. has published a paper that predicts that gold is expected to hit $1450/oz. by the end of 2010, so we are going to be in for a bumpy ride this year. At least Canada is in pretty good shape financially. Counting our blessings here!

Yes, this is the reason. Investors are buying US dollars from Europe because of this economic problem. This is driving the US dollar up!

I hope it turns around again soon. I finally got an ING account set up and was ready to start socking money into the US account and then she started dropping...I'm trying not to take this personally! ;)

It's falling fast...I hope it stops and starts going up again soon!

Man do I wish I had bought US money to cover our trip when it was at or really close to par :confused3

Lesson learned!

Here's the thing--I have vivid memories of buying US$ when the Canadian dollar was $0.65US. Ouch!!! I will not complain if our dollar is over $0.90US. The moment there is any financial crisis, anywhere, we can count on our dollar slipping in value against the US dollar.

March 09 was .77 Ted's Rule is buy a small amount each pay, anytime it is above .95.

Count me in as one who was hoping for "just above par" to counteract the banks conversion fees. :sad2: Now I'm kicking myself! Not that 0.95 is bad, considering what it has been and could be.

Hopefully it goes back up before our 45 day mark near the end of June. (And, double hopefully, it is near par in August when we plan to buy into DVC ... the exchange rate will play a factor if we buy then or hold off.) When it does go up again, I'm loading up the USD Account as much as I can!

Booked Seaworld last Tuesday before the big drop but charge posted to Visa on Friday at 1.0933. A few days earlier or later and I would saved $20-40.
