I'm pretty liberal about this kind of thing, but I would toss it too.
Better safe than sorry..I wouldn't. Might be fine, but the bacterial load could be really high at 5 days. It grows logrithmically - so it goes the first couple of days it goes from a couple to 10,000 then in the next couple it goes from 10,000 to millions... And then it keeps growing in the freezer, just at a much lower rate. Sorry, I know it a bummer!

But if I freeze it and cook it later in a casserole, won't that kill any germs?
I always ask my mom these questions, and she thinks we women are ridiculous these days. She said she always thawed all her meats on the counter all day, never threw anything out unless it was smelly or slimy and none of us ever got food poisoning!
