I just checked to confimr our reservations for the 4th of July and realized that I am a day short. At this point we have to check out the morning of the 4th (which is the whole reason we were going to start with). I forgot when I made the reservations a couple of months ago that night wasn't available and I was supposed to call everyday until I got it. Of course, nothing is available on the 4th now.

What are the chances something will come available before we go????

Call the reservation line at 7am 5 days before you go. That is the cut off for cancellations. I would also call twice a day, once in the morning first thing and once after 6pm until then. I have always found that I can add a day that way, no matter what time of year. It takes lots of patience and persistence, but it does pay off. We only had one night reserved the last week in April and it took a month of me calling off and on, but we got that extra day. Sometimes if we splurge and decide to go in a rush, we call first thing 5 days before and seem to luck out most of the time. I hope this helps.

I also check online, which is easier to me than calling. It only takes a couple of minutes to check that way, and then you can either call in, or grab it while on line. I once had it show available online, but not by phone.

We have a bad habit of making our Disney reservations then adding more days to it as we decide to do so. We have never had a time when we were unable to get the needed days. Keep calling several times a day. If you don't have it when the time comes to leave, ask the CM what they recommend. They usually have a few reserved days for just this type of problem. Also, remember that if you get the additional day, to have the CM bundle your reservations so that you do not have to move. They can do this very easiily and give you one confirmation number.
