Well, I'm just getting over a brutal cold, that invaded my sinuses, chest, throat & everything, and left me with a touch of bronchitis...It should hopefully be gone by the time we get there. I did everything I could have to prevented my family from getting it, but now my wifes nose has started running, and when she gets sick, she gets it good.

Soooo, my questions are:

Anyone else suffer a terrible cold during their stay? Were you stuck in your room the whole time?:confused3 Did it ruin your entire trip?

Does the Disney Magic help you forget (on some levels) how sick you really are and are you able to trudge it out, day after day?

Color me worried...

No advice, but sending my sympathy. I am 8 days into a nasty cold and my son who is 2 woke up this morning saying, "Uh Oh, nose," and had snot crusted on his face. (Sorry for the graphics.) We leave in 12 days and have to fly.

Try vitamin c and zinc. My parents swear by it. They say it really helps them get over colds faster. Hope she gets better soon!

lots of rest, rest, rest, and fluids..I am sure that is hard right before vacation right?? vitamin C and healthy eating is good advice too. Clhicken soup always makes me feel better. IF she is still sick the day you leave and you are flying...she MUST take lots of decongestants..otherwise her head will feel so full she will feel like she is going to explode (personal experience talking).

My youngest had a 103 fever the day we left one time..didn't ruin our trip at all..we just rearranged stuff. When we got to the hotel instead of heading to the parks the first night..we just chilled in our room and had some dinner and called it an early night.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

Tell her to start taking Zicam now! Every 3 hours till she's feeling better. It's really worked for me.

We're also leaving soon (6 days) and the kids and I were sick last week, DH is coming down with something now - I have him on the Zicam too.

I had the same thing last year and it stuck around for months. Someone suggested Sudafed and I was willing to try anything at that point. In two days I was feeling 85% better and by the end of the week I felt 100%. May be worth a try.

It may sound silly (especially if you aren't into natural/organic foods), but buy 3 or 4 (or more!) bottles of this stuff tonight ASAP and have her drink it nonstop until she goes to bed and all day tomorrow. Echinacea is a natural immune booster, ginger is great for clearing sinuses and lemon and ginger together sooth the throat. My boyfriend doubted me on this stuff, and even he was shocked at how well it worked. It tastes good too...kind of like lemonade with a kick. It's not spicy or anything. It is sold at some grocery stores that sell naturals and organics or at health food stores. http://www.knudsenjuices.com/products/simply_nutritious/lemon_ginger_echinacea
Every time I have gotten sick in the last 4 years, I stock up on this stuff and just drink it like it's going out of style. 3 bottles a day should do it, but even more will help.
Good luck! I hope she feels better soon! :goodvibes
BTW, vitamin C does not really have anything to do with curing a cold, as many people believe. Of course C is good for you anytime being a vitamin, but it won't help you get better any faster.
Also make sure she gets lots of REST! Sleep will help you heal up faster. Also decongestants like Sudafed do not help you get better. They will help open your sinuses, but in fact can cause you to stay sick longer than if you let the cold run it's course.

Oh my - you got your wife sick 4 days before your trip! Bad, bad DH! I used to get so worried a few weeks before our trips that one of the kids would get sick. I even kept them home from playdates for fear of other kids' germs! Actually, it wasn't the kids who would get sick before a trip, but me! For some reason (I think the stress of getting ready), I would always come down with something (sore throat or sinus infection) the day before our trips. It got to the point that every time I would go to our pharmacy, the pharmacist would ask "going to Disney?" Anyway, just wanted to let you know (and let your wife know) that being sick in Disney still beats staying home! Of course, it would be nice not to be sick, but hopefully it won't last the entire trip and you just learn to deal with it and go with the flow. We dealt with colds, ear infections, stomach bugs, strep throat...and have never had a bad trip! Good luck and hope everyone is feeling better!

I got sick last year the day before we left for Disney World (I dont have do it either..I was SICK!!!). I wasnt about to let it stop my vacation, though I did have to take it a bit slower. I took Nyquil so I could sleep, and tylenol cold and sinus during the day. I basically stayed drugged up for the first 5 or 6 days but it worked. The only thing that really bugged me was that my ears wouldnt pop for several hours after our flight landed. In fact they didnt both pop until the next day so I walked around talking REALLY loud. She may not feel 100% but if she is able to keep meds in her to control the symptoms then she should do just fine. Lots of liquids and rest when she needs to . We are leaving in 3 weeks, my son has strep throat and I am getting a sore throat as well..FUN!!!!:sad2::eek::scared1:

Mighty Ob, my husband could have written your post. I just caught a bad cough and we leave in four days. it's been great to read everyone's suggestions and support.

I am a nervous wreck right now. The flu & the swine flu are going around in our school system and we leave on the 10th. :scared1: Today my son came home from school and did his homework, ate dinner and her has been asleep on the sofa since. That's unlike him, I normally have to fight him to get him to bed. Also my DD went to the movies with a friend this weekend who now has the flu. I am praying that we can make it one more week without getting sick. I also pray that we stay healthy on our trip.:worship:

Here is to everyone getting better and to having a happy healthy trip!!:wizard:

I just got over a cold (sore throat and cough) a week or so ago. I went to the clinic right away after work to make sure it wasn't strep.

The doctor told me to gargle with salt water (5X a day) and to use my inhalers as she didn't want it to go into my chest. She also said the third day would be the worst day and then I should start feeling better.

She was right, the third day was the worst.

Hope she is feeling better soon!

Yeah something is definately going around my office. It sounds like 1 out of 7 people have pneumonia...coughing and hacking. Good times.

The Mrs managed to get some sleep last night, and seems to be holding it off now, that good! Now if I can oinly kick the last of what I've got before we leave...

I would agree that getting lots of REST will help.
(fyi...our family all got sick after getting to wdw on our last trip. the kids and I all took meds and went sleep early that night and slept in the next morning. We were fine by the next day, so we took the parks slowly & enjoyed our trip. we only missed 1 day in the park. dh tried to continue on throughout the day he was feeling sick, didn't get his rest, and he ended up in the hotel bed for 3 entire days. REST REST REST...don't overdo it, or you will regret it).

As long as no one is running fever, you can still enjoy Disney with a cold/allergy. Just take along decongestants that will help you feel better during the day, and make sure you're taking breaks. Utilize Fast Pass. Make sure you are drinking liquids throughout the day (not sodas...stick with water and juice).

Also - I swear by the neti pot. I have suffered with allergy problems for years, and didn't ever hear of a neti pot until last year. It really does help relieve the nasal congestion. I use it twice a day when my allergies start to act up or when I catch a cold. It seems weird at first when you use it, but I promise you this has done wonders for my nasal problems. here's a link to the one I have... fyi...use half a packet of the salt powder when you first use it until you get used to it, otherwise you will feel a burning sensation in your nose when you do it.

I am willing to play her understudy;)

Just kidding - I hope she gets better in time!!

Oh my gosh, this is completely my family, we leave in three days and are fighting colds in my two kids, yesterday I woke up with a scratchy throat and RAN to the pharmacy. We have been taking airborne....it's full of vitamin C. There's one for kids 4-12 and I've been giving them that. I read the label and it just seems to be vitamins to boost their immune system. We have been practicing crazy handwashing and resting. I am just like the PP that I do too much before an event (trips, Christmas) and end up sick. Today I wrote my to-do list and crossed half of it off. We'll be chiling for a couple of days to try to get healthy.

To answer OP question. We have done Disney very, very sick. DH and I dragging ourselves through with 102 degree temps. Also had kids sick with sniffles, fevers and stomach bugs. We usually keep the sick one in the room who can rest and if they are feeling better we let them go to the arcade later on (we do wash hands like crazy, we don't want to get anyone else sick either) And we let the healthy one go to the parks. The sick one doesn't usually mind as we usually bring that one bag a special something. Last time it was a stuffed Stitch that made the sicky smile.

Good Luck. Rest Rest Rest! And is sounds like we'll be there at the same time....you sickies stay away from my family....we'll be the ones covering our bodies in antibacterial gel. :lmao:
