We are taking the boys - DS 7 & DN 7 - for their first tent camping trip from 1/1 - 1/3. I just looked at the forcast and it is supposed to be COLD! Not just chilly. (We are Floridians, so a high of 48 & low in the 30's is freezing for us!)

What suggestions do you have for keeping warm, especially at night when sleeping? Will people still be swimming? No open campfires, so what do you do in the evenings at the campsite?

Any and all advice is needed & welcome!!!!

Thanks a bazillion!

If you have a ceramic heater, take that and leave it on all day while you are at the parks. This is important if you are using air matresses because it will heat the air inside the matress. Some campers take electric blankets and that keeps them really toasty! In the evening we like to take a blanket and hot chocolate to the dock and watch the water parade. Hope this helps...Have fun!

Bring a toque, even better a hooded sweater to sleep in. Avoid air mattresses at all costs since they will stay cold! I've slept in a foot of snow and been okie dokey with no heater, but you'll have a good guage of whether you'll need one or not.

Back around 12/16 I got to FW and it was around the same temperatures...me and DD used an electric blanket and put it between two sleeping bags and put the sleeping bags and electric blanket combo on top of an air mattress. Worked just fine till DH got here with the 5er.

the pools are heated too, and the weather is supposed to be only chilly for three days and then warm up to what we are accustomed to down here...i know, i will have the heat on in the house...i am a floridian and it will be cold to me!

I found using an electric mattress pad in addition to an electric blanket helped keep the cold away from the air mattress.

Heaters and tents make me nervous. Also cold air is dry air. Dry actually helps keep you warm. I would not heat up the tent during the day. Open it up and let air flow through. Also, leave a little bit of airflow even at night. Just your breathing in a buttoned up tent in the Florida humidity will make you colder.

Bake beans and beer. For the grownup's not the children. It might get a bit rank inside the tent, but you will be warm. Won't have many/any visitors either.

Too Cold for Us! It is not only supposed to be cold, but windy, too! We don't even have much in the way of warm clothes. We just rebooked for Feb 15th. Hopefully, the weather gods will smile on us that weekend! Thanks for the info, we may still need it, but hopefully not as much as we would've on New Year's!

Here's to a happy, healthy, & prosperous 2008 to all on the boards!

Don't hold your breath, unless you take my advice on the beer and beans. We just entered winter and Feb is usually just as cold as Jan. But we have some warmer days here and there. This time of year you're just rolling the dice on the temp's.

We may even have to bump it to March or April, depending on schedules......

We moved from Ft. Lauderdale to the Sarasota area, and I have told DH, "This is as far north of the equator that I will go!!!!" princess: (Yes, maybe a little bit of princess, but it's the truth!)

I am no longer a good cold weather person!

We'll see................

Thanks!

My suggestion is this : Get a room at the Wilderness Lodge !!

Ok, this is the second thread that you have posted "go get a room." I hate to reiterate what Gatordad said on the other thread, but THIS IS THE CAMPING THREAD! We talk about camping here, not renting rooms. Can't you get the hint man!:headache:

No doubt! I mean, I am a WDW resort officianado, myself:) . I just love Disney Resorts -period! Deluxe, Mod, Value, FtW:lovestruc ~ attention to detail and all. But camping is a whole different level, a whole different experience. If a "room" was what was wanted, a room would be gotten. FtW is a glorious vacation experience in its own right! It appears that Goofy109 simply doesn't get it. No offense Goofy, just don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

We just got back from a stay of 12/23 to 1/3 and on 1/2 and 1/3, it was so cold! We have a pop-up but with the wind it was cold! Our heat went out during the night of 1/2 and we woke up teeth chattering and shivering! Turns out the propane tank just needed changing so we were okay after that. Even cold the fort is still awesome! Hate being back but will return in June!
Good luck with February. No matter what the weather is, it will be fun!

I would say tent camping in April would be perfect, don't know about any other months because I haven't been then but April couldn't have been more beautiful. :cool1:

We'll cross our fingers for temps a little warmer than the 20's!!!! We are not planning on doing the parks at all. (We're a little spoiled, since we are just an hour away!) We just want to enjoy the fishing, pools, campfire, etc. We just didn't think it would be as much fun if we were freezing and shivering!!!! And I definitely don't think we would've used the pools with temps in the 30's & 40's and the wind howling!

We are really looking forward to this! I also just signed the boys up for the pirate cruise!

Thanks for the support!
