oh NO! WHAT have I done!?! electricity related

ugh, so sorry, OP. i'll read DH your post again tomorrow (he's already left for work), and see if he has any other suggestions.

Op here
again. I replaced two circuit breakers. Nothing. Then got my DH involved. He replaced the electrical box that I originally plugged into. Nothing.

Looks like we'll be fiddling with it tonight then have to break down and call and electrician in the AM if we have no luck .....

ok this may even be stranger but is your house like the one next door? like they were built together!! if so go ask them if they had any troubles!!

have you removed the surge protector?? if its blown would it keep area from working??

good luck!

Everything I've read says that this is not true. If a GCFI outlet is installed anywhere on the line, all plugs on that line are protected. Thus, if you have two bathrooms on the same circuit, both bathrooms are protected. I am not an electrician though, I am simply stating what I have read.

Any circuit down stream from a GFCI is protected by the GFCI. Many older homes will wire way to many circuits on a single line. You have to count the number of loads in the room to see how many circuits are needed. In a bathroom you typically have a sink light, an overhead light, a vent fan, an outlet (maybe more) and the switchesw that control the lights and fan. This is enough on a single circuit, that is why each bathroom and the kitchen should each have their own circuit.

When we had the "No electric" happen in one of the spare bedroom's and checked the breaker everything was ok, a friend of ours who is an electrician told us to check the wall outlets.

Our House was built in the 60's and the wall outlets were orginal to the house. One blew and the rest in the room stopped working. We replaced the wall outlets and then it worked just fine.

We have since had another room do the same thing so dh is replacing all the wall outlets in the whole house a little at a time now.

We had some lights flickering in an upstairs bedroom, bathroom, closet. It was off and on. Finally put money aside and called electrician. The circuit breaker never tripped but it needed to be replaced. Only costs us around $130. Well worth the money.

Still in the dark phred52???

Yeah ... we're still in the dark up there. I asked DH to call the electrician yesterday yet he's still trying to do it himself. As far as I can tell, there's nothing more we can do BUT call for more experienced help ..... At this point, I've stepped back ... and he's fiddling around up there. men !! :thumbsup2

We had the same thing happen to us. All the outside plugs and all the bathrooms blew. Nothing worked.

When the electrician got there, he showed us a surge protector type unit in our garage. It was on the opposite side of the garage than the electrical box, on the wall. He pushed the button and instant electricity. Since you have lost electricity in just parts of the house, I wonder!

Do you by chance have one of those in your garage area?

Kelly

I did this once and we were without electricity in a few rooms upstairs. I found the outlet in the bathroom had a reset button on it. Pushed that back in and that fixed my problem.
