Oh, no! Tropical Storm Chris

----------------We're flying in on the 9th. I just want to be able to fly. I don't care what happens once I"m there but I sure do want to get there!
----------------

Us too! Rain won't bother us, and cooler temps would be nice. But we have to be able to GET there.

Hmmmm... I wonder if we're cursed. We're born and bred Ohioans. We travel to the Outer Banks where TS Alberto decides to visit. Our plane flies out Sunday morning to be in Orlando about 9:30am. What's the chances that a lowly couple from Ohio experiences TWO TSes in the same summer??? :confused3

Our next trip is for Christmas. You might want to steer clear. I know hurricane season ends at the end of November but did I mention that this could be our SECOND trip this summer to be affected by a TS??? :sad2:

Oh well. It's our adult's only 20th anniversary trip. We booked the GF already figuring we may spend more "hotel" time than usual on this trip. We may not even notice a TS come through!!! :lmao:

Actually my DH & I are more worried about if it travels through the Florida straits and hits the warm Gulf waters- really warm water there, will it grow into a major hurricane and then head back toward us like one local weatherman said is a possibility? :confused3 Yikes!

And our hurricane shutters are still on order (there's a 12 week backorder here)! :guilty:

We're flying down for a quick trip on the 9th. I just want to be able to play WWTBAM one more time before it closes!

I know its still far away, and the computer models are going more south. But living in Florida all my life and dealing with all the storms in the past, you kind of get I guess a gut feeling on where it might hit. I really don't think it will hit anywhere near WDW. Plus I will be there Saturday

I was at WDW during Wilma last year, and the storm didn't last long, we had heavy rain and wind, a few trees down. We received word via the phone that the parks would be closed, and they recommended you remain in your rooms . The next morning we received another call saying the parks would open at 1:00pm. We packed our backpack and off we went to the bus stop to head for the parks. There was hardly any missed time, except for one evening and part of the next morning. After that, the weather was pefect, sunshine, blue skies, and everything was running on schedule .

No need to change your plans or worry at this point.

Yes, I know, but if it DOES hit here, Publix will be VERY busy with people buying water/tuna/canned milk/sardines/Chef Boy R Dee/fresh fish/Meat/Milk etc........ :sad2: :rolleyes1 I was going to "play hookie" from work, but if it does hit, I may not be able too....... :sad2:

I hear ya. I think hurricane supply shopping should be a sport, it sure is a tough one. :sad2:

Ya never know, we went into 2006 with a storm still brewing. Thank goodness it didn't come near, but yes, it can happen.

According to the Orlando tv reports, it looks like this thing isnt going to come near Orlando, so don't think you have anything to worry about.

Nothin's gonna stop us. Headed out the 8th....guess I'll get to the dollar store and make sure I have rain ponchos, just in case. As long as we can fly in and we get some good days, it's still a vacation, right???? Rain, rain, go away, come again another day (or week, or month, or year...) :cool1: :rolleyes1

I remember last year. We were at WDW when Tropical Storm Tammy was going to hit. The Weather Channel said a few inches of rain were going to fall and it would be windy, etc.
Nothing happened. It rained a little in the AM as soon as Epcot opened, but just kind of drizzled. That evening it rained for a little bit.
We even planned the day before to get some snacks at the food court in case the weather was terrible. We didn't need it.

At home in Pennsylvania Tropical Storm Tammy left a few inches of rain. WDW got very little.

if it just stays as a storm you really have nothing to worry about. usually it'll die down when it first hits land anyway, so it might even disappate if we're lucky. i wouldn't worry too much. they might not shut down the parks, maybe just a few rides.

Well, we're from Beautiful British Columbia, aka the "wet" coast. I was kinda hoping for some real sunshine, maybe a little rainstorm from time to time, but not torrential downpours, a typical fall, winter or spring day here.

Oh well, being wet at WDW, is better than being at work!

AMEN! :goodvibes

I'm not going to stress about nasty weather for our trip. None of us can control Mother Nature, so we might as well make the best of it. The other option is staying home... and I'm certainly not taking that option!

Just remember all the key words in these forecasts--"possible", "might", "perhaps", "could" ,"may", "chance".
And so on.
As with all these storms you just watch and wait and hope for the best.

Most likely all that Central Florida will get is a little rain if that much. It looks like it is going south of Florida.

We leave Friday AM and are flying back Tuesday. Just a quick stay. DS is driving down from St. Augustine with the girls for Saturday. Since it was so last minute of a trip (booked late last week) and I had free airline (FF miles) I decided not to get insurance. Only thing I am holding off on is getting tickets. Will wait to see what happens to determine how many days to buy.

So I guess we will wing it. Really want to get my 3 days at the parks...I am okay if I get stuck in Orlando and can't get back to work for Wednesday.

Hope for :sunny:

Hurricane Dennis skirted the west side of Florida (July 2005) and eventually hit Tallahasse. During this time, we enjoyed cooler weather--a lot of cloud cover and a couple of downpours--in which both times we headed for the nearest indoor ride. By the time the rides we over, the dour pour was over too. It can be a blessing--having very nice cool downs as the outskirts of the hurricane pass. At times, the huminity rose, but the CMs told us that the type of huminity we were expecting was normal for that time of year. ENjoy your trip.

I hope you get the outskirts of the storm like we did. And be thankful that WDW has many indoor rides/attractions that last more than 10 minutes because you could totally miss the downpour and enjoy the cooler weather because of the cloud cover.

We also are leaving on the 9th. As long as the flight goes and is safe, that is all I am worried about. I can handle a little rain, but hope that the parks stay open!
