Oh, no! Tropical Storm Chris

They just did a 10:30 am weather update. Mentioned "Chris" said its not too well organized and not really a threat to Orlando at this time. The main story is the heat, and to stay re-hydrated.

That's good news. Thank you. I am leaving for Disney this Sat and will be there next week. We survived hurricane Jean, so I am sure we can deal with a tropical storm if it hits. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Just saw the Weather Channel report. They are anticipating strengthening of the storm, but their projected path has it either going right thru the Orlando area to completely missing Florida. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! We'll be leaving Saturday and staying down there for that whole week. I can deal with a tropical storm. We'll just bring out the ponchos and hit the parks it if itsn't too bad. Hopefully it won't turn into a hurricane!! :sad2: I knew this was going to happen too! I knew a hurricane/tropical storm would hit right when we were in Florida! But I'm trying to keep a postive look on this..everything will be fine!

We're leaving for our honeymoon in WDW this Sat and will be there through the 10th, of the week it will be nothing but rain and wind. Hmm... guess I'll be loading up on Dollar Store ponchos before we leave :(

Exactly. Right now, it's very weak and by the time it reaches Orlando (if it does at all), it could simply be a couple days of rain and some wind. Not a big deal at this point (knock on wood).

On the positive side, the parks really clear out when it rains!!!

I doubt anyone will agree with me, but Im actually happy we have a hurricane coming through. I'm driving up to Orlando on the 13th for my trip and I have a feeling if it hits in the next 7-10 days as projected it'll: a) clear up any stormy weather b) cool down the afternoons and c) dissuade many locals from coming. Call me selfish but this happened a couple years ago...we had to move our trip back a couple of days. It ended up being one of the best vacations ever!

I don't mind the storm when I'm IN Florida - I just don't like FLYING in a storm gong to Florida! We're flying into Orlando Monday morning. Although I must say that last year, TS Dennis was supposed to be right over Orlando and we landed in the sunshine at 3 in the afternoon. Will just have to keep an eye on the news and hope we don't get postponed!

I hope it changes course. That's when I'm suppose to be at WDW. :(
I was at WDW during Wilma, and basically it was not any fun. I know you are also a character person, and the characters were just hardly out on my whole Wilma trip. I completely understand why hardly any were there, as the CMs were needed elsewhere or needed at their homes. I also paid rack rate since there were no AP discounts that time, so I paid alot of money to sit in my room and watch rain. And then I met many people from South Florida who had no power and damage to their houses. So a big touch of reality there. :(

But even so, it wasn't a great time for a trip (only thing that saved it was MNSSHP), but not so bad to stop me from going that time of year again - I am going in September and hoping for the best! :)

We were actually in Disney for Charlie the hurricane 2 years ago. We were staying at the WLV and it was kind of a fun experience watching everything get tied up and put away...If you are staying at a Disney hotel you would probably be very safe as they take extrememe precautions during such storms.

If it's going to be a storm while we are there, we will just have to make the best out of the vacation. NO STORM IS GOIN' TO STOP US. We have been waiting to go to WDW for more than one whole year. Just hope that everyone who's vacationing there in the next few days that "Chris" doesn't gain power and miss Orlando.

I will be praying for good weather for all of you. :sunny:

We are driving down from New Jersey on the 12th. I hope Chris is long gone by then but just in case he isn't and God-for-bid another storm should pop up, where can I buy hurricane insurance? I know I may be getting a little upset a little early but this is going to be our last trip to Disney for a while and it's my daughters' BF first time there or anywhere for that matter. And would hurricane insurance cover tropical storms? Thanks! ;)

We went one year in September and actually drove through a tropical storm and it's nothing but a big thunderstorm. I wouldn't cancel your trip just yet but still you do have to worry about it raining your whole trip. I guess what I'm saying is it's not like anyone's safety is really in danger just be careful trust me I live where Katrina hit!

Great. Perfect. I should have known. No, I should have bet money on it so I could recover some of the thousands we have invested in this trip. :guilty:

We leave in 48 hours. That means we should be perfectly situated to get the pre-rain, the actual storm, and any lingering showers in the days folloing, then we get to come home.

And I just want to tell you all to be sure to THANK my DH because he is the one who opened his pie hole and said a bunch of stuff about hurricanes. And he was careful to say it far enough out from our trip that a storm had time to form and make it's way towards WDW just in time for our park days. :furious:

I am so upset too. We leave Thursday evening and wont be back until the 13th. I hope it doesnt affect us too badly. I know these things change courses a lot of times too. I am tearing up just thinking about this.

We are leaving this afternoon and nothing is going to stop us from having fun. We even moved up are stay an extra 2 days. We are camping at Fort Wilderness and hoping for the best.... :thumbsup2

Please keep hyping me up! I was so happy today and then I saw this post and I am just so sad.

Well, if its in the Bahamas already, it should be gone by next week. We are driving down the 12th in the morning. I really hope everything's fine by then.

What you experience varies tremendously in just a few miles. A storm is typically 200 miles across. The killer winds are in the center 50 miles, but at 50 to 100 miles out from the center it can just be rain. Lots of rain. Yea, the occasional storm band tornado, but let us forget about them.

The storm often wraps the clouds in tight, and just outside the storm it is clear. The counter clockwise rotation means when a September storm is just off the east coast of Florida, the rotation pulls down some early cool dry fall air. We have days when a killer storm is 300 miles away, yet we have some of the most beautiful days EVER in Florida with intensely clear blue skies and wonderful low humidity. The most perfect weather to wonder around WDW imaginable.

So just because a storm is near, unless it goes over you, being next to it is sometimes beautiful weather. A couple hundred miles makes all the difference. Of course, that is the margin of uncertainty until it is a couple days away from hitting you or missing you.

At least in Florida we don't have earthquakes or volcanos. Just hurricanes--to put out the forest fires. :rotfl:
