Today my MOH's dress came in (We ordered it online). For sh!ts and giggles I decided to try it on. It was a size 12 and too big!! She and I are about the same size and she just had a baby so undoubtedly she will lose some weight before the wedding and I'm petrified this dress will never be able to be altered enough. But it gets worse...I ordered my dress in a size 10 (samedesigner, same sizing) with the thinking that bridal sizes run small so I better order a bigger gown. The size 10 would fit me perfectly right now but I plan to lose around 15 pounds before the big day. There is a lot of intricate beading on both dresses and I'm really afraid that there will be no way to take in that much fabric!! I kept going back and forth between ordering an 8 and a 10...I wish I ordered an 8!!! I can't believe I was ever worried about it being too small. I am so nervous and starting to freak a little!!!! On the plus side, her dress is stunning and I wasn't really sure how the color truly looked until now and it's beautiful!! I want my dress now...waiting another 2 months is going to kill me!!! :scared:

Don't stress out about it Diane, it will all come right in the end. Remember these dresses are made to be altered as not all size 10's are the same shape and size. The people that will be altering it will work their magic and you will wonder what all the stress was about.

Now go have that bottle of wine (and have a drink for me)and think how gorgeous you and your MOH are going to look.

I just wanted to pop in and let you know...

Generally, gowns can be altered to go down two sizes. :) So dropping from a 10 to an 8 wouldn't be difficult at all. And you could probably safely drop it to a 6 if necessary.

My bodice has a ton of crazy intricate beadwork on it, and I was worried about the same thing, but the store reassured me over and over again that it was better to have to take it in than let it out, so I shouldn't plan for "where i want to be".

No stressing!! You are gonna look fabulous!

One thing I have learned is buy the in dress in your size now. It will not be a big issue to have you dress taken in two sizes. I bought a dress too small for me thinking I would have enough time to loose some weight, well although I have lost 20 pounds, I am not loosing dress sizes. So I was forced to buy another dress, that fits me now.

not to worry - it will all work out....wedding shops do know what they are talking about and going down 2 sizes is normal - that's why they get the big bucks - to make you look like a million ( even though that's not much work on their side!) ...your gown will be stunning - you will be stunning ..:goodvibes

RELAX!!!!!! and trust me, those 2 months will fly by!

awe, diane:hug:

My dress was ordered in a size 14 because they said that the dresses ran small and size 12 would be cutting it close. I am normally a size 8/10:confused3

When I went to try on the dress, sure enough, it was plenty big on me. But when the seastress took a look at it she said: "Better big than small, this can be altered, no problem" that calmed me down.

Don't worry!!! Just find yourself a good seamtress.

Thank you guys so much. I've just been sitting here going over it in my head and I think I've overcome the freakout now. I'm still concerned about the integrity of the dress being ruined with too much alteration (and the cost!)...but I've decided it's not worth it to drive myself crazy with worry. When the dress comes in I'll try it on and take it in to be altered before I truly freak! ;)

Just about any dress can be altered 1 or 2 sizes down without any problems at all. Most brides tend to lose weight whether they are trying to or not, but it always safest to order the size that fits you at the time. Taking it in is easy as long as you have someone who knows what they're doing. So no worries!

Oh :) I forgot to mention...

Bridesmaid dresses tend to run big / true to size, whereas bridal gowns tend to run small.

So that is something to keep in mind as well :)

Don't stress about the size right now. You have too much other stuff to stress over LOL

I tried on 3 dresses, same size, different designers. All of them fit me completely differently. The one that I ended up getting is about 3 sizes too big in the chest, everything else fits pretty good. The lady at the dress shop said that it would be no problem to have it altered by their seamstress.

Oh great! Now you're going to get me worried that it's going to be too small! HAHAHA...just kidding! Thanks...I've realized that there's no reason to stress about this right now...I have faith that everything is going to work out!! Thank you for all for the support!!
