Oh no! Snow!!

OP here...well, we are now flying out tomorrow and staying at ASM for 3 nights. DS will have to take dog to kennel tomorrow and himself to campus Friday... hopefully he can pick the dog up before we get home next weekend, since he'll still have the car and then we can take him back... so many logistics to take care of today. I didn't cancel Sunday's flight and transfer funds (I was a bit frantic and not thinking this a.m.), so now I will have Southwest credit when I do cancel.

Bummer...3 extra nights :yay::yay::yay::banana::tigger:

Flying out of Worcester, Ma Sunday afternoon! Hopefully it will be late enough in the day to fly. I need my BWV time!!'

I'm in your area too!! I freakin love Worcester airport and JetBlue!! Hope they never stop that!

Although on our trip last January they had to bus us to Boston to leave because it was too windy in the Woo. We got out right in the middle of those two major snowstorms! What a shock when we got back!

What airline do you fly out of from Worcester ? I always forget to check with
That airport.
JetBlue. As mentioned, parking is great....$42 for the week. But, only ine flight a day.
Sat will probably be worse than Sunday. Fingers crossed. Nothing I can do about it.

Definitely keep an eye on it. As others have said currently Fri/Sat but its not uncommon with an extended forecast to change by a day, making it Sat/Sun.
Personally I would use it as an excuse to leave on Friday! May not be practical for you but that's what I would do. With Southwest I would keep an eye on DCA flights as well.

Ok You did one better! Great minds think a like. Think of us who will be shoveling :)

I love this thread - it's a STUNNING example of why the Trip Insurance offered through DVC is a great deal. THIS year, it's about $89 for a YEAR (not per TRIP).

We get this every year. It's greatest value surrounds AIRLINES: Cancellations, Delays, Lost baggage, DELAYED baggage. Yeah, if you get a heart attack at WDW, that's covered too - I'm not planning on one :). Let's focus on the AIRLINES - those guys that cancel, delay, and loose baggage..... the DVC sponsored insurance really IS a wonderful deal. The rewards for standard Airline screw ups are SUBSTANTIAL.

Just us - we're going to KEEP getting this. It won't solve every problem - but I suspect that the TRAVELEX folks SUE for all of the Airline mishaps, just to cover costs.
There is something in me that LIKES that :).

Best plan you could make!! Have fun!! My son WAS supposed to fly back to Rochester from BWI on Saturday for college but I moved him up to Thursday afternoon (with a costly fare increase over what I had orig. paid). They're calling for 18-24 inches around here now. It could be DAYS before we could get out…couldn't risk him missing first day of classes on Monday.

The problem with travel insurance is that it doesn't kick in until you're already screwed over (delayed / canceled etc.). If you try to be pro-active and change your flights or whatever to avoid GETTING canceled you void the insurance. That happened to us 2 winters ago. We went to WDW over MLK weekend and a big storm hit at home the day we were supposed to return home. We knew school would be canceled another day and didn't want to risk getting stuck at thei airport in Atlanta (we had to xfer there) so we added on another night at AKV and stayed 1 extra night. Completely voided the travel insurance.

Hey, when's the last time a forecast was right 5 days ahead of time? :)

Good luck to you and all who are travelling at this time. :sunny:

That's about right. In 1967 Chicago got 27 inches of snow flurries. Kind of missed it by a little bit. LOL

I was there too two years ago! We woke up at 5am trying to get dvc rooms for that day (we were flying into Newark). It was a bit stressful but we ended up at the resort we were staying (bwv, 2 1bds). We were offered pool/garden at bwv, treehouse, and SSR. We had 8 people to accommodate.

It wasnt a terrible extra day. We enjoyed it. We did a big last minute family dinner for 16ppl at Bluezoo in their private room (brother was at Wyndham and sister ended up at swan/dolphin). Better than being in the snowstorm!

That was a BIG storm.

Quick question about the trip insurance-- bc you added on the day of the cancellations, your insurance was voided?! What are they supposed to cover?!

We are headed out on Tuesday, 8am flight out of philly. I was originally going to book starting Saturday but for some reason did a Tuesday- Monday trip. In retrospect, thankfully.

The forecasters say the storm is suppose to begin around 8 pm Friday evening. I can't believe some of our school systems are already announcing that they are cancelling or closing early on Friday already.

THIS is good data. Has not happened to us yet - but you have provided really GOOD information, in the event that this DOES happen.

Please - help me with this one.... in the event of a delay/cancel - DO NOTHING, except CALL the insurance provider. Would that be accurate?

This is all great info. I just added insurance on two days ago for upcoming trip

The trip insurance that we bought through DVC DID NOT COVER our trip delay due to air traffic control issues last summer. We would have lost a lot more than we did if DVC didn't give us some pixie dust. We appealed, but Travelex didn't budge.

All the dvc insurance does is give you back your dues on those points if you had a covered reason. (And truly lost luggage might be covered but that's rare, and if there's medical insurance in there it might be useful)

And if you change your travel arrangements, then you've changed what you had covered, so yep, the new stuff won't be covered.

Insurance covers when things have been changed and your trip changes because of it. If YOU change it, though, nope.
