Ok, so our 'last minute trip' was booked around DH's business trip. DH's business trip now has to be rearranged...uh...can't do that. The rest of the family have non refundable airline tickets. So with the business trip goes the paid for rental car, and hotel. OK, so we will pay for the hotel, not that big of deal. But I'm thinking we can do without a car. We always rent a car when we travel. We have 2 little ones ages 4 and 6, and I'm a stickler for car seat usage. Both are in 5 point harnesses still, we will bring our 2 two car seats with us. SO how does shuttle service work with car seats? How long does it take to get to Harbor from Santa Ana airport? Are there a million stops and waiting at the airport for an hour before leaving?

Or does anybody know of any good car rental deals, haven't looked yet. We usually cant' get away with a small car, we have 2 large suitcases, a double stroller, carry on bags etc. usually the stroller takes up most trunk space on it's own with no room for two larger suitcases. What do you guys do??? It would be nice to have a car to go buy snacks, water, etc that we will need.

I've found some good deals on Hotwire for rental cars - I rented a mini-van in Florida this past summer for cheap.

You might try that.

i just booked a car for a week with carrentals.com (advantage) for the week with taxes (no ins) it was 175.00. i thought it was a decent deal. but this rate was for vegas so not sure what the difference would be

I do like hotwire.

If you're comfy with the transit options that don't allow carseats b/c they don't have seatbelts, there's also the coach bus of Grayline's Disneyland Express. It's just like being on a Grayline or Greyhound bus, with the tall seats, etc.

If you can get your order up to $50, you can start an account with vons.com and get that first order delivered free, instead of actually going to the store.

Ok, I found hotwire to have the best deal so far. I can get a full size car for $138 (with tax/fees) for the week. Disneyland Express will be $124 for the 4 of us. So I think we will try to make do with a full size car, we will just have to get creative in fitting all of our GEAR!

Just a "thinking out loud" kind of post but I noticed one of your kids in a 6 year old; why not drop the double stroller in favor of one small umbrella type for the littler one? That should save a great deal of space. I don't know if this is your first trip or not, but DL is pretty compact and the 6 year old will have no problem (assuming no physical/medical issues) walking. I have (now) 7 year old twins and they've been doing fine on their own power for several years now. Just one thing to consider...hope you all have a great trip.

Thanks for the suggestion! Actually I was just thinking we may drop down to the single stroller as well. Last year the double sure did come in handy, on late nights the walk back to the hotel saved DH and I from carrying one or the other (who both weigh the same amount :) ) But we may just have to make do, the 6 year old should definately have more stamina and during the day they can switch off if the DS6 needs a little break. I just really worry about this! With the exception of our 1st day, Sunday, the park opens late and closes early (8pm), so we are trying to not go back to the rooms for afternoon naps! We will have two tired kids:)
