Absolutely insane. I cannot believe that a government department (or any company in fact) can treat employees in this way. Can you imagine anything similar happening in the US? And we wonder why patriotism in this country just can't compare to that in America.

I really hope this work out ok for you, and I feel really embarrassed and sorry that our own government cares less for it's people than it does for ££££. Perhaps we could think about outsourcing the voting of our MP's and PM's so that we could choose politicians from other countries??!

I really feel for you. I work for our local council and they are constantly making cuts. You never know if your job is safe and the conditions in the building we work in is appauling.

Been chatting with my Dad who is in a trade, we have had many of these chats over the last year about getting me into the trade before he retires. I have bad backs and allergies to spare so I have always said no until now. Wont go into this too much but we see a niche coming in over the next ten years that we can use his skills and my youth and quick mind (lol). Means working all hours to study but it will prepare me for a chance if they offer redundancy next year at any point, if they dont i quit just before they want me to train others in the private company.
Feeling a bit better with all the hugs and support, feeling objective now..

Unfortunately, I don't need to imagine it. It already happens in the US and we're actually "behind" them in the practice - although we're catching them up.
