OH NO!! My son got accepted to a gifted program...no vacation for us!!

I find it interesting all the answers here. There is so much more to life than schoolwork, I can't imagine having to go to school extra in summer and getting more homework just because I was gifted! The one thing I do wish I'd had as a child was an exposure to other countries, other cultures. That has made a huge difference to me as an adult. Much more so than ever opening any book.

I would definitely choose Disney though over "boot camp". Kids should be kids too, not just students.

My brother got accepted into the Gifted and Talented Program in 4th grade when we were growing up. He did well, got all A's, but I don't really think he feels it got him any farther in the game of life than had he not done it. He certainly doesn't own his own company. I think he maybe got 2 college class credits out of it. It was very stressful and always a lot of homework. 4 years after he got accepted, I was offered the chance and my parents talked me out of it, which I'm glad they did. I do not have a personality that handles lots of extra pressure and while I got good grades, I always had to work very hard for them. I would have had a horrible time in the program.
