OH NO, I think I'm getting BUMPED!!!

I'll be at the Poly April 23-30, having O'hana breakfast on the 24th. I'll be sure to busybody around the morning of the 27th and see what's going on. :tiptoe:

Thanks! And please do...my ressie was switched to 1900 Park Fare at GF, so I just may pop on over there on the monorail beforehand myself!:cool1:

I would be very tempted to do the same if time allowed, I hate to think what I might say if it was open for business....I can see my family running now before I exploded :rotfl2:

In Disney lingo "routine mantaince" could be vaccuming and cleaning the tables before the group that rented it out arrives. They of course would never tell you they are bumping you so they can clean so they use a fancy term.

Routine Maintenance sounds fishy to me since Disney seems to schedule things like that in advance and to do so at one of the most popular restaurants during one of their busiest times, just does not add up, but then if they were to tell someone the cancellation was do to them renting out the place for a private function, and bumping someone for that reason, I know I would raise a little He__, and expect to be compensated with free drinks, or dessert for my inconveyience. But that is just me, I worked in customer service for 18+ years and know you always want to leave the customer as happy as possible nothing worse than "bad word of mouth" to any business and Disney is no exception.

Except that by notifying folks ahead of time, weeks before the trip, its not really an inconvenience. A disappointment? Yes...but a true inconvenience would be not telling them at all and having guests walk up to the restaurant on the day and time of their ADR and being told "sorry, closed for routine maintenance" or whatever other excuse. THAT, in my mind, is an inconvenience worthy of free drinks or dessert.

At least now, guests are being given a chance to rearrange their plans without wasting precious vacation time scrambling for a last-minute dining location.

I have also read something like this with Teppan Edo, they overbooked I believe when the first opened and had to call and cancel some people's ressies.
Now I am worried, I think when you are a DISer :lmao: and you plan your trips carefully its really stressful to hear that kind of news.
That could be like Le Cellier calling me and telling me they were doing "maintenance" while we were there....I'd be upset especially since I woke up @ 6AM on a Sunday to get that ressie lol.

Keep us posted!

If you re-read my post you will see what I was saying was in reference to the chance they were telling a fib about the routine maintenance and if one was told they were being bumped for a "private party" then they might expect to be and in my opinion should be compensated in some manner for the inconvience, this routine maintenance given as being the reason for that excuse so as not to need to compensate the customer. Maintence is an understandable reason whereas to book an establishment out when others have already booked reservations, in my opinion is not right, that would be if someone wanted to rent out an entire floor of the resort so Disney called and told you they were sorry but you could not have your room you wanted and booked months ahead because of maintenance on the resort when they really was not the case at all

We will be there from 4/17 - 4/25 but didn't make ressies at Poly except SOA. I have never heard this happening and am very curious as to what is going on. Could it be the Cheerleading Championships? I know that they are going on during that time.

So sorry :sad2:

This type of 'bumping' happens elsewhere in the travel industry...its not new nor is it unique to Disney.

If a restaurant/hotel/cruise ship has the opportunity to book a large group space that may generate more revenue than individual bookings, they're taking the group space and contacting the individuals to make other arrangements. And guess what? 9 times out of 10 no compensation is offered, because (as in this case ) plenty of notice is given about the change for individuals to make other arrangements.

To expect or even ask for some type of compensation on a restaurant reservation months in advance that has to be changed is ridiculous, no matter what the reason given or ends up being.

OP, what was the time of your ADR at Ohana?

My ressie was for 9:30am on Tues. 4/27...and I sure hope that you DON'T get a phone call, but seems that if you were, you would have gotten the dreaded call of DOOM already!!! :confused3
