OK, I've read all the threads similar to this one and just when I think I've made up my mind, the next thread changes my mind! :rotfl: So there is 4 of us going for a week starting Dec 13, our kids are 9 and 6. This will be our 2nd trip to Disney. We were there in October, but it was easier to pick then as we all wanted to do AKL. This time the budget is for a Moderate but it isn't as easy to pick this time. We liked the dedicated buses at AKL so that makes CSR appealing, the boat to DTD and fishing pond makes POR look great... you can see how this is going! What Mod has a good variety of activities and/or a good layout for my kids age? It seemed at AKL there was always some type of kids activity going on. I guess this could apply to all the resorts but I don't know as we've only stayed at the one resort.:confused3

We have stayed at three. POR, POFQ and CBR. Of those three I would say POFQ.

POFQ - We travelled there when our first daughter was five. It was great for that age. You are closer to everything in that one, the pool really appeals to that age.

POR - We travelled there when oldest was 9, youngest was 3. This is much more spread out. The pool wasn't as cool to them. The walk to the main pool was MUCH longer than when we were at POR.

CBR - Granted we went as a couple and no kids, but this was also REALLY spread out. It was a LONG walk to the main area if you are in some of the villages. We will never go there again - for that reason. We had a pool right at our room, BUT that was the only convenience, and it wasn't the cool pool.

We have not stayed at CSR. We are considering it this year, but will try to decide between it and POFQ.

Definately POR. There are boat and bike rentals, fishing, and boat rides to DTD. The resort is spread out, but if you try to get in at building 14 in the bayou section, it's the closest to the main building. And the bayou section has trundle beds so that your kids won't have to share. We love the pool at POR also.

Love the CSR (staying for 7th time in September and it was our kids' favorite resort--even over the deluxes). Great pool with great slide, playground, arcade, volleyball court on sand, hot tub, fitness center, spa. Great variety at food court, great bus service (we have not used the buses as we always rent a car, but we have visited with other guests while at the CSR and they all tell us the buses at the CSR are great). There are also bike rentals, boat rentals, etc.

hey, we are going on Dec 13th as well!

I have stayed in all the moderates (love them!) and I would say go with POFQ. It is the smallest so you won't have to worry about being too far from the main areas and the pool is really fun for kids with the giant dragon/whatever slide. lol... BUT, if you want to do more activites like go to a bigger pool, rent bikes, go to a sit down restaurant, rent boats, do some shopping in a bigger gift shop, etc.. you can walk or take the boat over to POR .... and you can take the boat to downtown disney as well which is really nice.

The downside is there is only a food court at POFQ but the food is decent to good (pizza is good.. there are burgers, quesidillas, etc and good desserts) and they have the famous bignets (sp!). There is a bar/lounge and I want to say there is someone who plays piano or sings there but I'm not quite sure. I know there is someone like that at POR though.

I know AKL had a lot more activites for kids to do than the moderates as far as things like story telling and making crafts.. but I think there is a lot for kids at moderates too with just the pools and stuff.

good luck.... all of the moderates are great no matter what you choose.

We stayed at AKL last trip & I must say I wasn't impressed. CSR is our favorite & I wish we could stay there in Sept. but we need the trundle since noone wants to sleep w/ Grandpa. Go for CSR!!!!!

CSR!! Best pool/slide, transportation and great food choices. Check out my CSR website below for pics and info.

Definitely POR or CBR! Both are wonderful. :lovestruc

Would not stay at CSR again. Too many conventioneers and high priced food!

Thanks for the feedback, this is great! :goodvibes The votes really seem split between CSR and POR/POFQ but little about CBR. Should I take CBR off the list?:confused3

I saw a post about a dig site at CSR. Does any one have a picture of it or tell me more about it?

Thanks!

CBR is the oldest of the mods. When we were there in 2006, we found it showed a lot of wear and it was very spread out. The bus service was by far the worst we have experienced on property. CSR had by far the best bus service since they don't share with other resorts and since they do have a lot of convention guests who are attending those meetings during the day, the bus was never crowded.

Thanks to everyone for their advice, tips and insight on the Moderates.:thumbsup2 It came down to a decision between POFQ and CSR so we took the scientific approach.... and flipped a coin!! :rotfl: So we'll be at POFQ this December!! We will definitely drop by the CSR to see what we missed out on this year. Maybe we'll be there for the 09 trip...:rolleyes1

Sure you will enjoy POFQ. We have never stayed (7 times soon at the CSR), but it is the only other moderate we would even consider.
