Oh! My Peanut butter! (a 2013 PHM report)

I don't know... I think there were a couple vacations where we got such good discounts... that maybe it was the better thing for us at the time. I think then too...we were much more "commando style" than we even are now. We were not too unhappy staying at a value... and if you think you will never be in the resort and are happy with a value... then I suspect that DVC wouldn't be a great fit.

True, I do think it's all about when you started thinking about it and your vacationing style at the time. Even with great PIN codes, which we were lucky enough to have, as we were staying deluxe or at the cabins (which is practically deluxe pricing, just holds more people) it really wasn't a leap. But if I go back...there is definitely a time prior to knowing it existed when our vacation style was different and no way I could have seen it making sense at all. The reality for us too is that we'd have missed out on some other trips if we'd have bought earlier (Alaska cruise) so things happen for a reason and when they are right!

I do like having prepaid items. That is one reason why I love the dp even though it may not be the value that it once was. (btw... will have to pick your brain about the dp and dvc too ;)) Even with paying dues each year... I can't imagine that they will go up in a crazy way. (although we did take a look at mf's at all the resorts going back to 1991 and there were a couple years it really jumped) So assuming it doesn't jump up too much in a year it is easier to plan. I almost feel like there is no rhyme or reason to the cost on disney vacations any more. Our 6 night trip in February cost almost as much as our 10 night trip (with 4 of us rather than 3) in the fall.:confused3

Ok I am SUCH a dork I made a spreadsheet with all of the dues increases over time to calculate an average annual increase by resort and then projected it out to the end of each contract. It really did help us isolate what we wanted to do next in the add on category and look at the long term picture so I'm glad I did it.

Flights seem to be the really big variable, our summer trip was brutal and then my Oct trip, total score. Very frustrating. DDP isn't the value it used to be which bums me out big time as I do love prepaying and if I can break even, I'm happy. If it ends up costing more...then that's a different story. I think you really have to work it to make it pencil to even break even these days and that's frustrating. Really wish they didn't build in the cost of that mug, I think that's part of the issue.

I can see where it is! Just last night I was showing Steve a different room category at Aulani... and while we had though if/when we go...we would do a standard view studio. Yeah... no :rotfl:... we will be saving some points up in order to spend on a better room. So it is fun to not only see where and when you will stay... but what kind of room you can get.

SO true and what you think you might be happy with and what you really really want, can be very different things. Much as I love the concept of some of the more "value" views....we've decided that we are verandah and view junkies and it isn't worth it to compromise on that. That said...with the time difference we land in HNL at 8:30pm so wasting that night on ocean view points seemed silly...so 1 night standard and 6 nights ocean view here we come. In 33 days!

Other thing to bear in mind about those standard views is there are not very many of them so very hard to get at 7m. Kind of like getting value at AKV or Standard at BWV, hard to get unless it's your home resort and you book 11m out.

I know..right? :confused3 But... we are at a higher price pp (only by a couple dollars.. but still) AND right now...without borrowing they would have had 380 points available to them. I have to wait till December to get points that are not borrowed and then... it is just the current year. (the one that didn't pass ROFR had all of 2012 and 2013) I am hoping that this fact that they would have had so many readily available points was the reason that Disney took it.

Ok so add all that up and it's a very different deal and theirs much more attractive for Disney to snag.

After Zoe's race, we got back on the rundisney bus and headed to CSR. Once there it was pool time for Zoe and Steve. It was so nice that right outside our door was a quiet pool. Made it VERY convenient.

While they were spending time in the pool, I decided to go back to the expo to pick up a pair of shoes I had been eying the day before. I am so glad I got them! At first I thought they were a tad small and would need to be returned... but they ended up being perfect after the race. So perfect that when a sale online came out today that with a special code made it so I was able to get 2 for less than I paid at the expo for the one, I jumped on it.

I also took a moment to get a picture of my name on the wall. Of course it was close to the ground. I had to squat and bout get knocked over by people trying to see theirs above mine.

After I made my purchase, I went back to the room. (the rundisney booth was still to crowded to get into :sad1:) Got Zoe out of the pool and ready to leave for AK.

Took this picture on the way out. Isn't CSR just beautiful?

Since breakfast was fairly nonexistent we were hungry and our first order of business in AK was to get lunch. I know a lot of people love Flame Tree BBQ. Personally I have not been a fan in the past. Not much changed my opinion on this trip.

Steve had the rib and chicken plate.

Zoe had a pulled pork sandwich.

I had the turkey sandwich.

We all had the "key lime cheesecake"

We attempted to pour off the green goo so that we could eat them.. but it really did not help. And yes... when I say pour... I mean... pour. That green goo was like a thick syrup. :crazy2:

There were of course tons of birds who wanted us to share.

After lunch we went to ride Dinosaur. The line wasn't horrid, but we had a moment to wait.

No pp + for us on this trip...

Making our way out of Dinoland, Zoe and I got right on PEE. I am not sure why, but I really do love that ride.

As we entered into Asia, we picked up fast passes for EE. We were in no rush so we just meandered a bit as I looked for a drink that was non alcoholic and cold. (but not soda)

Then we found the line we wantedat Upcountry

As we waited in line, Steve had someone warn him he had an ant on him. Just as the warning came in... the ant stung him. ::yes:: a fire ant. He had one "bite/sting" that swelled a bit and made him uncomfortable. Maybe I didn't give him enough sympathy. Maybe now I still don't. However maybe I should because I will have a story to share with you of my own.

As all of the biting was taking place, I was very focused on my drink. A Shangri-La Berry Freeze. OMG! So good!!! would have been better without the paper straw though ;)

Zoe was a bit upset that she didn't get one of her own so I got her a pretzel. She was still pouting a bit...even as she nibbled on it.

Next Up: 2/23 - Day 4 Part 3

I agree, everything happens for a reason! :goodvibes

That is brilliant!!! I love spreasheets.

Flights seem to be the really big variable, our summer trip was brutal and then my Oct trip, total score. Very frustrating.[/qutoe]

I know... I tend to be super cheap when it comes to flights. I try to finagle points. February... we paid more oop for the flights per person than I ever have before and it killed me. Now... for my fall trip. I worked it so that I only paid $7.50 total. :rotfl2: I like that kind of fare. But.. it is on two different airlines...so a tad bit of a headache..and it did mean I have to leave a day later than the other girls. (which means one more night cost) All in all though.. I think a pretty good deal. ;)

I think that is the sense I got too... that you really had to work to break even. I can see why people lose sleep over free dinning promos.

SO true and what you think you might be happy with and what you really really want, can be very different things. Much as I love the concept of some of the more "value" views....we've decided that we are verandah and view junkies and it isn't worth it to compromise on that. :cool1::cool1: OMG!! How cool?! And.. :scratchin did I miss a PTR? Please say you will do a TR :goodvibes I know I would love to live vicariously...

and the view... yes, I think that is ultimately what sold Steve too. He really liked CSR..but he REALLY LOVED the balcony at WL. I think for him having a balcony to sit on is important... and that balcony can't be a view of a garbage dumpster.:rotfl:

Other thing to bear in mind about those standard views is there are not very many of them so very hard to get at 7m. Kind of like getting value at AKV or Standard at BWV, hard to get unless it's your home resort and you book 11m out.

Yup.. I know... I wish that wasnt the case... but I do realize it is. I will just see where our points sit. If we have enough for an available room.. then I can plan if not... maybe we wait.

Ok so add all that up and it's a very different deal and theirs much more attractive for Disney to snag.

I hope so. You really think? I think initially it worried me because the cost pp and the number of points were not all that different. It was when I realized how many right now are in that account that I thought it might not be as close to ours as I thought.

I probably wouldn't have had much sympathy for one fire ant bite either. I can trump almost anyone in bug bites so it's hard to muster up much for anyone else except Evan who has the same magnetic blood I do.

I'm lukewarm on FTB. It's ok, it's a TON of food and that dessert was nasty. But it's ok, I'd eat there again, just wouldn't go out of my way.

Cute flip flops.

We were SO spoiled in the past, paying $208-225 for direct. This summer was just under $500. I used miles for my Oct trip too, think I paid $100 out of pocket or something like that. We used miles for Hawaii though (so only spent $178 each) so it's unlikely they will help us much for Dec plus those are high miles, and rate dates. I am tracking them in Yapta but UGH.

:cool1::cool1: OMG!! How cool?! And.. :scratchin did I miss a PTR? Please say you will do a TR :goodvibes I know I would love to live vicariously...

We have definitely become more insistent on it, to the point where we can have a hard time enjoying a room without one and feeling a bit claustrophobic. It's ok if we are doing a "city" trip, like San Fran or even a night downtown here but a warm vacation...we want a view of the pool at least. View snobs I guess. But it's a huge part of our vacation ritual, cofee on the verandah, afternoon snacks/drinks on the verandah, watching the sunset on the verandah....lol! Sadly the VWL views aren't very good, a few have pool/water view but most are....serviced road.

No, you didn't miss a PTR. Maybe missed my ticker though. :goodvibes I can barely keep up with the 2 TR's I have going at the moment and figure I'll probably wrap up mine just about when the Aulani trip starts, maybe a little before. Our F&W TR will wrap up first I think but you never know. I do plan to do a TR for it, just not sure if it will start before or after we return, will really depend on when the other 2 wrap up.

I hope so. You really think? I think initially it worried me because the cost pp and the number of points were not all that different. It was when I realized how many right now are in that account that I thought it might not be as close to ours as I thought.

Well, the thing with yours is that the Dec UY may work in your favor. If they take it, they can't sell it till Dec given the lack of 2012 points so they may not want to sit on it for the 5-6 months they might have to. I do think it is likely linked to how long that waitlist is too and who knows. Heck I go from thinking we will get our points in the next month to hoping it's by Sept.

I probably wouldn't have had much sympathy for one fire ant bite either. I can trump almost anyone in bug bites so it's hard to muster up much for anyone else except Evan who has the same magnetic blood I do.

Dont get me wrong... I mean... I felt bad. However it was one bite. Not to give too much away... but before the end of the trip... lets just say someone had a few more than one. ;)

I'm lukewarm on FTB. It's ok, it's a TON of food and that dessert was nasty. But it's ok, I'd eat there again, just wouldn't go out of my way.

It really is kinda like Comic Rays for me. I just find to be not to my liking.

Cute flip flops.

Thanks. I got two different ones today. I have to pick them up in the store (figured why pay for shipping when I drive right by JcPenny for work) I got a white and light pink one in the same size I have not... and went up a size in a brown and purple. I am not sure I have anything that will go with the brown and purple...but I thought at that price I would try and make it work.

It's a bit of an obsession.

:rotfl2: spreadsheets in general are a bit of mine. I use them to organize ANY thought I have. ....and often those thoughts can be rather complicated. For work... we are given our monthly budget.... it isn't organized AT all. (why they give it to us like that who knows) I have put mine into a spreadsheet and use all sorts of calculations through out so I can alter the entire month by just changing a couple key cells. My boss has tried to get me to explain it to everyone so that they too could use a spreadsheet...but it was quickly decided it was too complicated. :rotfl:

I know... $200 per person round trip. That is what I like to see. The recent $400 rt ranges have been crazy. $178 for hawaii though it great!!! :thumbsup2

I am really coming around to the idea! The more I think about relaxing at or near the room... the more I want a nice place to do so.

No, you didn't miss a PTR. It really is kinda like Comic Rays for me. I just find to be not to my liking.
perfect analogy! And I feel exactly the same about Cosmic Rays.

Thanks. I got two different ones today. I like brown and purple together, depending on the colors it could really go with quite bit.

:thumbsup2

Love it!

I do the same thing, and did the same thing when I first started at my current job as I was appalled at how they were doing the budget. I don't know how many templates I've created at jobs over the years for that kind of thing that have then been implemented. My biggest issue is I'll start a thought, and a spreadsheet. But then forget where I put it or named it and I end up with 10 versions of the same idea till one "sticks".

And then 10 tabs in that sheet that then are redundant as I goof around.
Typically for each trip I have an overall budget tab, a dining tab (with DDP, Versus TIW or other discounts, a rooming tab as I compare options, a flight tab as I compare options (including miles avail), a tickets tab, same thing...packing list...grocery list...

:rotfl2:

I have 3 going right now. One for Aulani, one for the big family trip and one for our Cruise. Honestly though the big family one is the spreadsheet I am in all the time but I do need to look at Aulani soon.

That and my cat food one. Good lord. (long story)

I know... $200 per person round trip. That is what I like to see. The recent $400 rt ranges have been crazy. $178 for hawaii though it great!!! :thumbsup2

Yeah, we scored for HI. Although it was actually more than that, for some reason I was thinking first leg was all miles but it was really only for 50% off and then I had a credit in my account as well. So the total ended up at about $280 each when all was said and done.

Miles for 50% off the way there on Alaska $116 for Jeff, $86 for me
Delta on the way back $178 each. Nice thing about flying Delta is we can get the miles credited to our Alaska accounts so that helps. Perfect/preferred flight times though and direct both ways :thumbsup2

It was funny though, honestly what happened is with the BWV add on we had points that we'd "have" to use that we wouldn't be able to use for the large family trip. Not enough to do much though, just 105. Since it had been a while since we'd done a longer "date" trip (just the 2 of us) we decided to be selfish with the points. We looked at a bunch of options and while we actually could have done a week in Cabo with RCI (and availability was there) the date flexibility just wasn't what we wanted, nor were the flight prices. Once I realized we could do the whole thing for $560 to Hawaii, Aulani became a no brainer and luckily I was able to get what we wanted at 6m out. Of course....I used more than that 105 to do it but hey, the kids are getting 9 nights over NYE, 3 in their precious treehouse so I figured they will live. :lmao:

I am fairly sure I used miles for one leg for my girls trip at least for the 50% off and then got a good rate on the return. Funny on that one, Alaska lowered the price the day I was leaving and I was able to call and get a credit for it. So with the miles and credit, that one came down to $230 RT, much more palatable!

We will have enough miles for 1/2 off of one leg for 3 of our 4 tickets for the Dec trip. Not much and it may not help at all as it's high season rate.
I really really want the direct flights and do NOT want to fly United but I have a feeling I may not get at all what I want. The flights I want, if I were to buy today are $918 each! BLEH. Best option is around $522 and while I could use miles on one of those legs it only brings the overall total down about $20 each so not worth it. But that's an 8am return flight and not at all what I want, that's like giving a day away!.

It's too early though to book or to really know but :crazy2: All I know is it should NOT be so hard to find and book decent flights. We had to pay through the nose for K to fly to darn tri cities and back this weekend (choir trip and a soccer state cup game today...can't miss the choir trip or it would kill her grade and she can't afford that). I'm not convinced it was worth it but as no one was willing to drive...ugh. Tri Cities. Should be 80 bucks! Even last minute. But...no. I had to pay almost $200 to go to Spokane in Feb. Messed up.

I am relieved to hear I didn't miss it. But 2 TR's... yup ::yes:: I must have missed the other one.

I don't think you did :confused3 aren't you over on the joint TR I have with Mary Ellen from our Food and Wine trip? I thought you were... if not the link is in my siggie lol.

Well, another person chimed in on that thread to say that their OKW with a december UY and no points coming till 12/13 passed. I think they also had the same pp. So maybe... just maybe we have a chance. :goodvibes

I saw that, their contract was much more similar to yours and I do think it may work in your favor. The fact that theirs passed is very encouraging I think.

Paper straws are a bit of a bummer, aren't they? :lmao: I feel your pain. I hate them.

Yummy lunch.

Ouch to the fire ant bite.

Cute ears on Zoe (I'm sure I must have commented on them before).

Congratulations on your SSR purchase. :cool1: I bought both my contracts resale. The first one was easy - 200 points at SSR. The second one was much harder since I only wanted 100 points and definitely not more than 125. Finding my use year was killer. Those contracts just flew off the listings. In fact, I wondered how some people already made the purchase when the listings were up for, on say 20-30 minutes? :confused3

After I bought my SSR contract the whole real estate market crashed (2008?), so if I had waited 6 - 8 months I couldn't have save a couple grand. That stinks, but who knew and, like Cynthia said, I look at it like prepaid vacation. I just love it and am thrilled that I have stayed at all the East Coast resorts. So much variety.

You will love it!

And I love HHI so much that if I ever get tired of Disney (fat chance) I will just go there multiple times every year.

Just found your TR. I hope your offer goes through for DVC! We missed going to Disney last year, so have been reading a few reports to keep me going until our next trip in November. If I can help in any way let me know. We have bought DVC direct and are now in the process of adding on (if you remember seeing me from the purchasing threads). Wish I was a runner, I do walk a lot but no walkathon a at Disney.

Paper straws are a bit of a bummer, aren't they? :lmao: I feel your pain. I hate them.

They are! I can handle them for the most part. Now.. Zach... he has such an aversion that to get back at him for all his mischief, Kimberly and I plotted. I brought back the paper straws and she snuck them into a drink of his.

Ouch to the fire ant bite.

Ya know, we really never have experienced them on a trip until this one.
Cute ears on Zoe (I'm sure I must have commented on them before).

Thanks. :goodvibesI think they were actually Kira's at one time. :scratchin maybe not.

Thanks so much! I hit Cynthia up for advice while you were away. Now that you are back, I may have to bug you too! Especially since you purchased resale... I am very happy we decided when we did because just since last week per point prices at OKW have really increased.... and other resorts... well... :faint:

And HHI?! I am seriously intrigued by it and Vero. I can't wait to stay at either of them. I kinda wish I had a small contract at HHI... Mf's don't look as bad as VB and the price pp is low. PLUS I want to stay there. But listen to me... already wishing I had a second contract. Maybe someday...

:welcome: I am glad you found your way here! I appreciate your well wishes :goodvibes Some moments I think we will need all the luck we can get to make it through ROFR and other times I think we will be fine.

As for running and Disney... believe me... the marathons have a LOT of walkers. A LOT!!! And... I think if I can go from not being able to run more than a minute (and I think that may have been stretching it) to running for hours... well... anyone can! Just about a year ago I was barely making it out of my neighborhood. Now just a year later... I can run without stopping for ...well at least 10 miles.. A year of a lot of hard work and training.. but that commitment has brought me to where I am now. And if I can... anyone can. :goodvibes

Just a quick note to say that we got the contract to sign today. :cool1: I wasn't expecting to get it until friday. My plan is to sign and fax them over tomorrow. Assuming the seller is prompt on their end... things could be moving right along. I wonder though if we may have a snag in the contract. Now... I would love for the seller to pay closing. (I mean... that saves me money, so that is good) However it was my understanding that the offer they accepted included us paying closing. In the contract though, I believe it states that the seller will be reimbursing the buyer for closing costs.

Here is the wording...

"Seller to credit Buyer for
closing costs in the amount of"

What do you all think? :scratchin

I will have to make sure to run that past our agent. I hate to take the time to sign and fax all the documents if they need to be redone.

Now, that was quick! :thumbsup2 Congratulations on it happening so quickly! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I won't be much help with the closing cost issue, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it works out in your favour! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Well, Steve and I still need to sign..have it "witnessed" and then fax off. THEN starts the real wait. Probably close to a month. And after all that if Disney exercises ROFR... we start all over... finding a new listing we like...making an offer..etc.

I'd call, for some reason it seems like it is worded like that on mine as well even though it really wasn't a credit...I can look but I remember being a bit confused at the time. Certainly that wording implies that it is being paid for, or reimbursed by, the seller.

I sort of remember mine sounding like that too. But I don't recall. I'd have to look it up.

Anyway - glad the contract is ready to sign and now the wait begins. I hope you pass POFR on the first try!!!!

I got a hold of our agent before we faxed over our documents... She confirmed that the seller is in deed paying the closing. Yay!

I hope we pass too. I am shocked by how much listings have gone up in the last couple weeks. If we don't pass- we may wait out this crazy period a bit...Until the "right" contract comes around.

BONUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's wonderful

Right? Thing that was odd is I thought we had discussed the seller paying closing. But I was barely awake when the agent called. So when she was rattling off things I wasn't following her entirely. (so much so that I had to actually go back and take a look at the listing she convinced me to make an offer on) Then when she sent me the confirmation that the seller had accepted the offer... those details listed closing as being our responsibility.

I just hope that it doesn't put us at a greater risk for Disney exercising their right... hate to lose this over the closing cost.

Yippee! Congrats! Here's some positive vibes that the rest of the process goes as quickly and as well:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks! I really do hope to goes smoothly. I went into this thinking I would be totally fine losing at least one to ROFR... but now I wonder if it won't be a bit more of a let down than I thought it would be

Yeah, I can see your concern. Not sure what that works out to per point but one passed yesterday or the day before below your pp and I think with more current points (not a lot but more maybe?). Main thing is it is out of your hands now and what will be, will be.

Easier said than done I know!
