Hi guys!

I was going to tack a quick Disneyland TR onto the back of my current WDW one, then realized that I actually have enough notes and pictures for a TR here instead :)

I've only posted maybe twice in the Disneyland section so I should probably introduce myself.

I'm Elle.

I'm from Massachusetts. I'm 27 years old and work as a 7th grade ELA teacher. I'm kind of a little obsessed with Disney (aren't we all though?). I've been to Walt Disney World a whole bunch of times but I had never been to Disneyland before last week.

So, here's the low-down, the key facts to know about this TR:

The Who: myself, as well as my best friend Jey and her Mother
The Where: We stayed at the Fairfield Inn on S. Harbour
The How Long: We were in California 9 Aug. to 14 Aug. with 4 full days of Disneyland
The Why: Because we wanted to, originally. Then they started planning the 60th celebration and we were proud of ourselves

I'm in the middle of sorting out my pictures but I'll be starting the Trip Report in full tonight :) I'm excited to share my reactions with some Disneyland vets as well as talk about my experiences for those other Disneyland newbies trying to figure everything out for the first time!

Thanks for following along in advance!

Chapter One: The Boring Bits

So every single chapter is going to be so image heavy this should basically be a picture book....except this chapter. There's like 6 pictures in this chapter so instead of breaking it up like I do with everything else I'm just going to get through it all in one gigantic swoop. Sorry folks!

Ah, travel day. It's the day everyone loves to hate - you're going TO Disney, but you're not IN Disney yet and it's just like....ugh, waiting.

Okay, so, those of you who've seen my PTR over in the WDW section knows my summer was insane. For those of you who haven't seen it, let me do a quick breakdown for you:

Basically I've been traveling across country, nearly non-stop, for a month. On the 18th of July I drove down from Massachusetts to South Carolina. We came back home the 25th of July and on the 27th I went to Walt Disney World with my aunt. The week of the 1st of August until the 8th was the only time I was home taking care of the cats and dogs while my parents were away, and of COURSE I got sick, lol.

Actually so did Jey!

Thankfully I was okay by the time Saturday the 8th rolled around. See, we had a plan:
1. I would get to Jey's mum's house on the 8th
2. 3 AM on the 9th the two of us would embark out for fuel for both the car and ourselves (aka gas and coffee)
3. We would get to her DBF's house around 4 AM and would switch drivers
4. We'd drive to Boston and pick Jey up by 4:45 AM
5. We'd get to Logan by 5 AM and get through the US line and security and be on our way, preferably with a bathroom break and to get Jey some coffee

Basically numbers 1-4 went the way we wanted them to. Even with me snapping this picture of myself after getting ready:
11252282_935903203124084_1223137111_n.jpg

The drive into Boston so early in the morning was a breeze, and I found out that Jey's mum's DBF and I had been on the same flight home from Orlando to Providence the week before! So we spent the time talking about how the week had been for us, etc. We picked Jey up at her apartment and off we went!

Until we got back to the city proper and tried to get into the tunnel for the airport.

Which was closed.

In case you're unfamiliar with our lovely, old, unimaginably confusing city, there's really only one way to get to the airport - that way. We followed the (ridiculously small) signs that took us on a tour of both the north and south sides of the city before we finally made it with about 40 minutes until our 6:30 flight. We should have been there at 5, but instead we were running into the line to drop off luggage at 5:35!

Oi!

There were a few people around us who were also on our flight and in line so thankfully after about five minutes in line the US agent started pulling us into our own private line and had us go drop off our luggage and check in before everyone else in line. Security did not do that, so that took a little bit. And then I lost my ticket for a minute (it had fluttered out of the bucket after going through the X-ray machine) so we booked it to our gate which was thankfully only about 100 feet away from the security desks.

We were basically the last people on the plane. There were maybe 10 people behind us, probably fewer. But we would have been the last section to board anyway so at least we weren't like Zone 1 and had to try and get through the whole plane.

And the plane was HUGE. I've been on big international flights before (Virgin Atlantic comes to mind) but this US plane was so long and skinny that I don't think I thought it'd be that big.

We didn't have a non-stop flight. We were stopping in Phoenix. The flight wasn't great - very bumpy - but the pilot apologized and told us whenever we hit turbulence that he was going to try and get us out of it.

I had window seats the entire time because I get nauseated on long plane rides and need to be able to look out the window. I took these pictures of the countryside as we flew over it to send to my mother:

Bad turbulence or not we were in Phoenix an hour early. We had to sit on the runway for about twenty minutes waiting for them to find a gate for us. That was fine with us (probably not the other people on our flight, but us specifically yes!) because we had three hours to kill.

Once in the airport we stopped at Peet's and got some coffee and something small to eat. We didn't want anything too big because we knew we'd be getting lunch once we got to LAX.

Our plane came and it was of the small puddle jumper variety. Jey's mum and I knew that but Jey didn't. She's terrified of flying and we knew that if she knew she'd freak out so when the two of us were buying the plane tickets we decided not to tell her until she absolutely needed to know so she wouldn't have too much of a panic attack. It actually worked out well.

Our flight was, again, bumpy. But again we got in early!

I took another picture from the plane of who knows where. Somewhere in California from the random geotag that it definitely shouldn't have been able to do on airplane mode:

Originally, we were going to take the us from LAX to Anaheim. But once Jey's great aunt AJ found out we were flying in to LAX she offered to take us out to lunch. Initially we were going to go with her to Santa Monica, where she lives, and eat someplace close to her condo, but there was something going on and instead she offered to drive us to our hotel and get us something to eat in Anaheim.

So we did that.

We met up with her in baggage claim and it only took us about a half hour to get to Anaheim. When we go to the Fairfield Inn and I went to check in the woman at the desk told me there was one room available on the ground floor but if we wanted a higher level floor we'd have to wait. We chose the room that was available because we really didn't care...

....and I'm so glad we did!!!

We got a corner room right by the pool (not that we used it). It was 100% the closest room you could get to Disneyland, and to add to that, it was a character room, which I hadn't asked for! It was a Cars room, and here is my spectacularly bad picture of the room while I was sitting on the bed waiting for everyone to change out of their travel clothes:

It doesn't do the room justice, and I don't like using the word "cute" as a descriptor, but it was a really adorable room. A little boy would have been in heaven. Heck, we are three grown women and we thought it was a pretty great room!

We went down the street to Tony Roma's. I didn't take any pictures of my food because we had non-Disney company but I got a pulled pork sandwich (I have a thing about pulled pork; before asking what I'd get Jey said "you're getting the pork, aren't you?" so I have a bit of a reputation). I really liked mine but Jey's mum and aunt found their ribs to be too small (to be fair, they did share so it WAS less then an average person would get).

After AJ left we headed to Downtown Disney for about an hour:

But we were exhausted after only getting three hours of sleep and traveling all day so we headed back to the hotel around 8, showered, and went to bed around 9:30, only to be awoken by the fireworks....oops! But we went to bed afterwards, to get ready for our first Disney day!

It sounds like the traffic wasn't your friend on the way to the airport. I'm glad you didn't miss your flight. How nice you didn't have to ride the bus to the hotel. I look forward to hearing more.

I'm so glad we didn't miss it either! And it was great not to have to take the bus and not having to walk as much with our luggage.

Chapter Two: We're Doing All of the Things!

This is...going to start with a less-than-awesome thing happening. I'm trying to remain truthful to our timeline and everything and I can't ignore what happened.

So, we started the day around 7. I woke up and got dressed a few minutes before the alarm went off so I was ready by the time Jey's mum got up to get into the shower. I ended up doing this every day which was a good thing - our room was a lot bigger than we anticipated but it still helped us all have some room during the morning!

I had initially planned for us to be out of the room around 7:30 but we didn't end up getting out until 7:40. It wasn't a big deal though; even with it being so close to park opening and bag checks being for both parks it was leaps and bounds easier for us to get through security than it does in WDW.

Now...um...this is the jarring bit that we went through. There was a family directly behind us as we were waiting at the turnstile and there was sudden shouting. We turned just as the dad went down and started convulsing. We called to the CMs and the woman with the family in front of us went to get help while a woman from the line next to us who was obviously a nurse or a doctor jumped in to help until the paramedics arrived. We were shaken (I'm sure not as horribly as the family was!) but we kept the line moving and by the time we were getting our photos taken for our passes the medical team was coming through - so not 5 minutes later.

We were through the gates and were greeted with this:

Eeee!

No matter what park, or where I am, I'll never get tired of seeing this.

We walked into the park, which is lovely and definitely not as crowded as what we're used to:

I took a few pictures, unable to help myself even though I knew we had to go eat before anything else:

I took this picture of my hand-made ears for Bibbidi Bobbidi Bonnie on etsy and Instagram as a thank you for such great work:

Then we headed into the Marketplace to get some coffee and a pastry for breakfast. We ate our pastries then went wandering around with our coffees in hand. I'm in love with the hub so I had to snap a few pictures:

At some point around this time my J1 died because I had forgotten to charge it after getting back from WDW the week before, and I had definitely left my extra battery back in our hotel. Thankfully I had my little Coolpix so I could still take pictures that morning.

After finishing up our coffees and talking a little we chose our first ride of the day.

But where would we go first?

Subbing, I like the fact that your TR has so many pictures! That must have been horrifying to see the man convulsing.

How scary that the man had a medical emergency right at the beginning of the day! But quick thinking calling the CMs, and I'm glad he was able to get help quickly.

The castle looks really pretty with the 60th anniversary bling on it!

How awful about the medical emergency! I cannot begin to imagine how upsetting that must have been for everyone. I love the hub! Your ears are cute! I'm wearing themed hair bows I made for our trip. I'll miss wearing ears but the bows are fun. I'm really enjoying your photos.

We were there 8/8-8/12...we were about 10 people ahead in line of the father that went down in line...I hope he was ok!

Welcome and thanks! It was not a fun experience! We were very quiet as we ate breakfast just thinking about it

It's so pretty! I've now seen 3 castles celebrating something (15th for DLP, WDW's castle was done up 10 years ago for DL's 50th, and now the 60th)!!

Thanks :) My friend recently turned me on to the hair bows she has but her hair is much longer than mine. I may get some mini bows for my April trip to Florida (I can't resist cute Disney things) but I'm such a sucker for ears!

following! Looking forward to your TR! Love those ears!

Thanks! And welcome!

Oh man, you weren't that much further ahead of us! I hope he's okay too!

Chapter Two

So, we were headed into our first land, towards our first ride of the day. Where would we go?

Tomorrowland!!!

I bet you didn't call it :)

Jey and I tend to always start in Tomorrowland in WDW so it's just kind of our automatic response. Besides, I hadn't gotten to do a whole lot of anything in WDW last time I was there so it was nice to get to do different versions of old favorites.

Jey and her mother were still finishing up their coffees so I took a picture of our first ride:

While I took this Jey took a picture of her mum pointing at the sign for her to send to her DBF - he, Jey, and I adore Star Wars, so she thought it'd be fun to show him that we were about to ride! The wait was only 10 minutes so we got through pretty quickly. We got the ending that takes you to Naboo, which Jey and I were always convinced would make her mother sick (she's has terrible motion sickness but powers through with medication because she likes Disney too much) but she ended up adoring it! She said it was the most fun she'd had, so that was good :)

Our next stop had this amazing view:

Any guesses?

This may help:

So Space Mountain is one of my favorites and with a 30 minute wait we couldn't say no! The ride was awesome and sooooooo much smoother than WDW! I sat by myself while Jey and her mother were in front of me. I'm pretty sure I told her on this ride that being behind her mother was my favorite part of the ride because her reactions were fabulous. Needless to say she did not go on to it again with us.

We got out of the ride and then hopped over to the Little Green Men Store Command. See, back when I booked our vacation, I had originally just booked it from the Fairfield Inn without having to worry about tickets or anything. I didn't want to book through Disney directly because I didn't know if we were going to actually go through with this vacation. See, we had planned a vacation to San Diego last year and then backed out a few months later, changing our plans to Florida instead, so I wasn't getting my hopes up this time. Once I had confirmation that people had put in at work for the vacation I changed our reservation, putting it through Disney instead. This came with a couple different perks which included getting a voucher for a free 60th anniversary lanyard and pin. But we could only get them at specific stores - one being Store Command. We could have gotten them in Downtown Disney the night before but I had left the voucher in my backpack in the hotel room. Jey may have ragged on me for that all night lol. To make sure we remembered to get them we picked them up pretty much first thing on our first Disneyland day.

I don't have a picture of it at the moment (I'll grab a picture of it with all my new pins later) but it was a really nice lanyard and pin! Much nicer than I had anticipated for being a Disney freebie!

Lanyards acquired and happily around our necks we headed out of Tomorrowland with a mission.

I had get some other pictures of the Hub as we walked through:

We walked on over to Adventureland:

This picture makes it look surprisingly empty. That was how Tomorrowland was but Adventureland was starting to fill up. There was a decently long line for Jasmine and Genie and for the Jungle Cruise.

But neither of these were our mission.

Nope, our mission was this baby:

Indy fastpass! I was excited for this ride. For one it's like one of my top rides back at the world (Dinosaur), for another I just adore Indiana Jones. Also, dude, paper fastpass. I haven't had one of these in two years and I miss taking pictures of them.

With these bad boys in hand we went to get the one thing Jey's mum really wanted right at that very moment:

And believe me, we were not complaining!

Jey was jokingly upset that she didn't get a blue umbrella because both her mother and I did but I didn't get a cherry so I thought it was a fair (though she gave me her cherry so, probably a lot less fair lol). We sat down at Jolly Holiday to have our floats and talk strategy. Jey had really wanted to wear a shirt she had bought the night before, but when she went to put it on that morning it had a hole, so she wanted to go looking in the Emporium for another shirt. I was okay with that, because my shirt was just at that side of uncomfortable because it wasn't as...I don't know, flowy I guess, as I had wanted it to be.

So what did we do?

We went shopping, of course!

I just got a new shirt. Jey's mum ended up with a really big back and I don't really remember why...they did get the small backpack that was the come on for spending over $25, Jey got a shirt....they must have gotten something big but I don't have it written down!

Either way, after we paid and changed Jey's mum went to leave the bag up front so she didn't have to carry it around with her for the rest of the day. Jey and I took the time to have a top of Main Street photoshoot.

(you can see the masses of people starting to come in at this point!)

Once her mum joined us again we headed down to use our fastpass. It was as good as I had hoped, if not better! We all loved it and wanted to go back on as soon as possible.

But! We had other things to do, and other lands to explore, so we left Adventureland behind for the time being and headed on out to check more stuff out!

Part Three

We were headed on down to Indiana Jones, to use our Fastpass.

Oh, my gosh guys.

I'm in love.

I'm in love with that darn ride! It is very similar to Dinosaur in WDW but I liked it a little bit more, honestly. Probably because everything works. I love my WDW but the amount of things that don't work is sad.

We started walking over to New Orleans Square.

It was getting pretty hot, as it was midday by this point, and the 45 minute waits for Pirates and Haunted Mansion in the midday sun didn't sound too appealing so, after snapping this picture:

We grabbed a fastpass for Haunted Mansion, promised Pirates we'd go visit later when the sun was lower, and decided that we were hungry. We walked around New Orleans Square just to check what there was to eat before settling on the French Market, since it seemed like it had enough different options that we'd all be satisfied.

Both Jey and her mum ended up getting French Dips. Me? I got:

Royal Street Chicken Caesar. The chicken was really good, the croutons were fresh, and so was the parmesan. It was really good, and I ate most of it, which I never do with salads! After a while I just end up eating the croutons and chicken, which didn't happen with this one! Jey and her mother both loved their French dips, they just could not finish them; they probably could have very easily shared it and still would have been full.

While we were eating we had some entertainment:

It was nice to have some entertainment with our lunch and even though it was awkward for me to watch (the bandstand was directly behind me) it was fun to listen to.

After we finished eating, Jey's mum wanted a special sort of dessert that she sent us on our way to get:
20421743100_7f97dcff64_k.jpg

Mickey head beignets! The entire week before we went to Disneyland my parents were in Florida, staying at Port Orleans: French Quarter and were bragging about the amount of beignets that they could be consuming while they were there so I was kind of craving them and was pretty much out of the chair halfway through her asking lol. They were nice and light and we only bought the bag of three because we didn't want to over-indulge.

After lunch, we rode Haunted Mansion and began to head towards Fantasyland, via Frontierland. Excuse my ridiculously unnecessary amount of pictures to follow :):

As we were walking past this bad boy we grabbed a fastpass for Big Thunder Mountain!

As we entered Fantasyland we walked past the Fantasyland Pearly Band headed backstage:

Our first ride in Fantasyland was Snow White's Scary Adventure, mostly because Jey and her mum couldn't decide where we should go next so we just got in line to figure out what we were going to do. It was a very hot wait, because of the small enclosed space. It was also weird to wait in a line for Snow White, because when it was in Florida it never had a wait. Which was why it was one of our go-to's.

Have some random pictures from the queue:

Afterwards I asked if we could ride Mr. Toad because I don't remember ever riding this as a kid.

We still had like an hour before our Thunder Mountain fastpass so we walked over to Big Thunder Ranch after buying some water and sat under on a bench under the trees near the entrance to watch Jessie meeting with kids. As we were talking we kind of decided we were wiped and even though it was nearly time for our fastpass we'd really all do better if we went back to the hotel and changed. We figured we'd either get a new one when we got back to the park or we'd end up just getting in line. So at about 4:45 we headed out, back to the Fairfield Inn.

I swear that it is always hotter in Disneyland. It's all those bodies and concrete. It all looks great so far!

I swear that it is always hotter in Disneyland. It's all those bodies and concrete. It all looks great so far!

It wasn't as bad as I think I had expected it to be, just because of the lack of humidity but it was still at least 10 degrees warmer than it had been on the east coast so there were days (Wednesday especially) where I just could not stand being outside!

Part Four

We went back to the hotel and changed. Our plan was to come back for 7, once the sun was down a bit, so I took the time to rest a little bit, wash my face (I really wasn't sweating too badly until I was back in the hotel room), reapply my makeup, and charge my cameras.

We headed back to Disneyland and breezed back in, glad that the crowds (and heat!) had cleared up.

We headed back to the part of Fantasyland that we hadn't gotten to see yet, and basically just took pictures:

After walking back to Small World, which we had planned on riding, we realized that the line was massive! Apparently that's where everyone had gone for the night! (most other things in the area had already closed their lines in preparation for Paint the Night so it was pretty much the only game in town currently), so Jey and I went down to Toon Town, missing our own Toon Town every step of the way.

(Daisy has a diner, of COURSE I took a picture of it!)

We left Toon Town a little misty-eyed and headed back to Frontierland to pull a new FP for Thunder Mountain (for 11:20-12) and continued on. The line for Pirates was only twenty minutes long and the sun was down so it seemed like a perfect time to do it!

So....here's the story about our Pirates ride.

In line there was a young woman with an adorable little girl behind us, probably about two. Somehow she ended up in the last row, so there was a row free behind us. Three people, two women and a men in their late teens or early twenties got in just behind us.

And spent the entire time talking about their sex lives.

Not the full time. Once we got into the room past the red head I finally made a comment loud enough for her to hear about not wanting to hear about it anymore and she stopped but it was 100% TMI to know about someone I don't know. Heck, it was TMI to know about people I DO know!

We also got stuck. Well, not us specifically, but the boat 4 boats in front of us, right before the drop near Blue Bayou. We saw a flashlight and heard someone give these very technical instructions: "Alright everybody, lean forward and back, forward and back!"

After that, we headed out, looking for some food.
