Oh My! – The Brits Are At It Again! **COMPLETED** 11/13/11

Bless you two for braving that downpour at Epcot! We were at DHS and I said many times that it's a great park for a rainy day, as most every attraction is indoors! Of course, it was still miserable, but as we all know, a miserable rainy day in Disney is better than a sunny day in work!!

Can't wait to see what you tried at the food booths. And how you did it in the pouring rain!!!:scared1:

I am bound and deteremined to try that crossaint berry pudding on our trip in January. I've seen so many pictures and heard how good it is that it's become my mission! lol

I agree with your DH , Disney bacon is just sad.

I was down in the mouth about the rain for about 10 minutes and then I thought back to how many raining mornings I had spent stuck in a London traffic jam .......... I know where I would rather be

We were soaked when we got back to the Boardwalk, thank goodness we were so close to "home"

We ate our food in Epcot especially quickly; otherwise every dish would have quickly become "soup of the day" :rotfl:

Oh you have to try it ....... grab a Fast Pass for Soarin' and then head straight to Sunshine Seasons :cloud9:

Someone should be serving croissant berry pudding next to the Soarin' Fast Pass Machines, what a great start to the day that would be

Saturday 8th October Part Three

Following our Behind The Seeds Tour we exited The Land and decided to head over to World Showcase for our first proper glimpse of the Food & Wine Festival

First stop on our culinary tour was Mexico

IMG_5020.jpg

Crispy Shrimp Taco – Chipotle Lime Mayo and Cabbage on a Flour Tortilla - Mexico

Having checked out the menus before leaving the UK this was the first thing I wanted to try and I am so glad I did

The Tortilla was just wonderful, so soft and fresh. There was plenty of Shrimp and the Mayo added a wonderful hit of extra flavour – top marks from me :cloud9:

DH went for this

IMG_5019.jpg

Grilled Ribeye Taco (Chipotle Pepper Sauce and Scallions on a Flour Tortilla - Mexico

DH wasn’t raving about this quite a much as I was about the Shrimp Taco but he said it was “OK”

I don’t think his Taco was as freshly made as mine and looking at other people’s plates, they all seemed to have more of the ribeye filling

We continued around World Showcase and checked out some of the Pavilion’s before heading into Norway to pick up a legendary snack that we have not tried before

IMG_5021.jpg

School Bread From Kringla Bakeri og Café

Mmm, this was a lovely treat to share and if they had served bread like this in my school I may have paid more attention :teacher:

We continued our travels around the World before stopping at the China booth for a couple of final snacks before heading back to the Resort

DH picked this

IMG_5022.jpg

Pork Pot Stickers - China

He wasn’t terribly impressed with these; they were cold and a little bit too “chewy”. He usually loves Pot Stickers so these were a bit of a disappointment

Our other plate was much more successful though

IMG_5023.jpg

Black Pepper Shrimp with Sichuan Noodles – China

We shared this plate and the flavours were excellent, my only complaint was that the food wasn’t very warm. To be fair to the CMs the weather was just awful and seemed to be causing them some problems

Following our visit to China we decided to head back to the Resort to rest for a while and get freshened up for our evening at the Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic!

Coming Up Next – The Food & Wine & Wine & Wine & Wine Classic!!!!

Oh, yum, those shrimp tacos were one of my favorites!! I liked the rib-eye ones too, but agree the shrimp were better..

So sorry your food wasn't hot enough. I hate that. We got the potstickers and they were hot and fresh and fabulous! I'm sure the rainy weather had something to do with the temp of your food. Both due to the cool/wet weather and, I assume, the lower crowds (and food sitting longer).

Going back a chapter, I have never had that croissant berry bread pudding, but it looks SO good. I must try that next time I'm there!

Great reviews and really excellent photos! This is really getting me excited to head down in a couple of weeks -- I love the Food and Wine Festival :goodvibes
My folks and my son were there when you were and they did the carts in the rain as well -- their report was very similar -- Rainy day in Disney tops a sunny day at home!

Loving the F&W reviews - I also think it's great that there is much variety :thumbsup2

Mmm your crispy shrimp taco looks and sounds amazing :cloud9:

I also like the look of the Croissant Berry Pudding from Sunshine Seasons - a shame it had gone a bit cold.

You are right about the weather effecting the food on this particular day; the park was half empty and the guys at the booth were really stuggling with all the rain
Luckily this was only a trial run at the F&W Festival as we had a full day planned for later in the trip

It was our first time at F&W and we loved it; we really have to go back again at this time of year. I hope you have a wonderful time when you head down :goodvibes

Saturday 8th October 2011 Part Four

Following our rainy day in Epcot we were happy to get back to The Boardwalk to dry out and relax for a while

Today was certainly going to be a snack filled day as tonight we had tickets for the Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic

For those who are unfamiliar with this event here is a little background:

I believe this is the second year that the Swan and Dolphin has ran this event and it runs for two nights; Friday 7th of October and Saturday 8th October

The food stations are representative of the many dining establishments within the Swan and Dolphin Resort

We had bought an all inclusive ticket for the event which from memory cost around $70. When you check in you are given a wristband which entitles you to unlimited food and drink samples so no scrambling around for credit cards/gift cards/cash etc

At check in you are also handed a bamboo tray with a clever little cut out for the plastic wine glass they also provide; so once you are all checked in you are good to go!

From what I can gather the rain had started half way through the Festival on the Friday night so they had made the decision to bring all of the food and wine stations into the resort’s ballroom for the Saturday night guests; it was a good job that they did as the rain was still pouring down outside

The whole set up here was fabulous; lots of tables to either sit or stand, live music, free bottled water, a huge amount of beverage stations :thumbsup2 and really knowledgeable and helpful staff

I would highly recommend this event to anyone and I honestly believe that they could and should run this for more than two nights

So let’s get this party started

Right there are 26, yes 26, beverage stations with wines from across the World; California was particularly well represented but there were also a wide array of French, Spanish, Italian and Argentinean wines to name but a few!

As well as wine there was Beer, Sake, Champagne and even Moonshine available

Let’s not forget people that this is UNLIMITED!!; needless to say I saw a few casualties before the end of the night

Sooooo, I had a little word with my liver ………… something along the lines of "hey I’m on vacation and I promise when we get back to England it will be OJ and Green Tea all the way!" :rolleyes1 and off I went

I’m a big fan of Napa Valley wines having visited that area a couple of years ago so my first stop was a sample of a rather nice Sauvignon Blanc (St. Supery) and a Beringer Chardonnay

All of the wines stations had one white and one red but in the interest of not waking up on a Boardwalk bench I stuck to white wines

I sampled a couple more Sonoma offerings before my non-drinking DH started to get restless and his stomach started to grumble

Ahh yes food, I suppose we should

There were 10 food stations and I am fairly sure we hit every one, some more that once

First up

IMG_5025.jpg

Cib’s Smoke Shop – Smoked Pork Belly, Texas Toast, Baked Bean Foam

DH absolutely loved this and once he had cleared his plate he went right back in line for another helping. He tells me that all of the flavours worked wonderfully well together and the Pork was delicious and tender

Next we headed to the Todd English station

IMG_5026.jpg

Todd English’s Browned Butter Lobster Roll

Neither of us was terribly keen on this believe it or not; we found the butter and bread combo was a little too sweet and made the whole dish a little ‘sickly’

Everyone else around us seemed to love them though so I think it’s just personal taste. They were packed full of lobster pieces; very generous

Next a vegetarian treat for me

IMG_5029.jpg

The Fountain – Falafel: Chick Pea Fritter, Tahini, Traditional Garnish

Mmm, yummy

DH didn’t try this, he just looked at me and said “chick peas??!!”

Next a dish that we both enjoyed

IMG_5028.jpg

Cabana Bar And Beach Club – Crab Eggroll: Blue Crab, Cabbage, Ginger, Sweet Thai Chili, Soy

DH likes Eggrolls much more than I do so this was a bigger hit with him than me but they weren’t at all greasy (one of the reasons I often don’t like them) and were full of delicious crab

The little pastic container had a soy sauce that you could "inject" your crab roll with; very cool

After all that food it was time to take some more liquid on board so we headed to one of the free “Cocktail 101” sessions

This was a lot of fun; a live demo ran on stage whilst servers brought samples round to the tables

IMG_5034.jpg

Cocktail 101 Samples

The three drinks we were given to try were a ‘Holiday Sangria’ which had a little pinch of Cinnamon in it to give it a holiday feel; a Caipirinha and some kind of Margarita

I literally took a tiny sip of each as these were big samples!; I loved the Sangria and the Margarita but found the Caipirinha far too sweet for my taste

Back to the food:

IMG_5035.jpg

Shula’s Steakhouse – Carved New York Strip, Creamed Spinach

DH’s verdict was that it was “OK” but he much preferred the Pork; he just kind of pushed the spinach round his plate like it was some kind of alien life-form

IMG_5032.jpg

Garden Grove – Rock Shrimp “Po Boy”, French Bread, Tomato, Old Bay Remoulade

Ooh we have a winner, I loved this and much preferred it to the Lobster Roll.

Lots of perfectly cooked crispy shrimp and just the right amount of remoulade to lift the flavours

IMG_5038.jpg

Bluezoo – Heirloom Beet Salad, Goat Cheese Fondue, Candied Walnuts, Ice Spinach

This sounded right up my street but unfortunately I really didn’t like it; I couldn’t taste the goat cheese at all and the beetroot had been turned into a foam which again lacked any taste

Next one for DH to sample

IMG_5030.jpg

Il Mulino – Hand Cut Tagliatelle, Braised Lamb Ragu, Pecorino Romano

He loved this and the plate was empty in no time

It’s worth pointing out that all of the food we were served was hot and freshly cooked; they certainly didn’t leave food sitting out and the presentation was beautiful

Phew, we are nearly there; our penultimate station was one I had been looking forward to:

IMG_5037.jpg

Kimonos – Spicy Yellow Fin Tuna, Nori, Seasoned Rice

This was very good sushi and if I had found this station early in the night I would have no doubt gone back for more

I finished the evening off with a glass of Champagne and a plate full of desserts (we shared I promise!)

IMG_5040.jpg

Laurent Branlard Desserts

There is no description in the brochure as to what these all were but I don't remember being 'wowed' by any of them; I do remember that the cake like dessert on the left had a rum sauce to "inject" it with but neither of us enjoyed it

Our second plate was much more sucessful

IMG_5039.jpg

These were a chocolate and peanut mouse type dessert and a bananas foster coconut bread pudding and both were delicious :cloud9:

All in all we had a wonderful night and I wouldn’t hesitate to return if we were visiting at the right time of year

It was still raining hard when we left so it was a very quick and soggy walk back to The Boardwalk before turning in for the night with very full tummies

Next Up …………. The Breakfast Of Champions …. Cupcakes!
