My oldest DD (who will be 9) is a Harry Potter freak and we pretty much promised her that we'd get to Harry Potter World during out next WDW trip. Gee gosh golly, tickets at Universal are pricey! For my family of five to go over for just ONE day to the ONE park, tickets would be $450 PLUS rental car PLUS parking. We can't do that.

The only thing that I can think of to ease that pain would be to have one of us take just my DD over. That knocks tickets down to probably $160ish and we can get a smaller rental car, for a bit over $200 total til we pay parking and all the taxes on the rental car. For one day. :sad2:

Any other suggestions?

Universal tickets are no more pricey than Disney tickets for one day. Theme parks don't give discounts for one day tickets.

2nd..It is just like Disney. The longer you stay ,the cheaper it becomes. One day is not any cheaper than one day at Disney

Third. :thumbsup2

If you had a multi-day stay planned at Universal and wanted to do one day at Disney, you'd be even more sticker-shocked.

Just for comparison....

Single day Disney tickets are $85.00 plus tax for adults and $79.00 plus tax for children. Plus rental car and parking...very expensive. In fact...it would be the exact same price for a single day at Disney.

Because of this, our Orlando trips tend to be either "Disney trips", or "Not Disney trips". It's just too expensive to mix them, but with e.g. a Flex Ticket it's pretty easy to see "the rest of Orlando" for a reasonable price.

I say the same thing when trying to visit Disney for a day.

::yes::

i do both parks and stay onsite at each resort.

i called to change my room only at the motherland yesterday to a package in hopes for fd to come out.

$91.xx for a one day, non hopper disney ticket.
$180 for a 2 day non hopper in case the promos for the motherland come out and require a 2 day ticket for that .......

this is for one person.

I see you have go every year to WDW. Costco had tickets for $150-they are for any 3 days good until 12/31/2014 and you can go park-to-park. Athough it is more upfront, you wind up with an extra day and free park-to-park. If you will definitely be back in the next few years, you might consider these.
Otherwise, unless others really don't want to go, I would bite the bullet and enjoy OIA as a family.

We have been doing both WDW and Universal the last few trips so I feel your pain. I try to plan for 9 days and go to Universal for 3 or 4 days and Disney for 3 or 4 and then work in extra time for somewhere else. I spend way more on Disney passes than Universal passes but we don't stay at Disney long enough to make the passes a decent value.

We really need to switch to all Universal or all Disney but then I promised to never skip Universal when we go....

This is like deju vu all over again. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2863731

Disney and Universal are the same price for one day jaunts. Universal is much cheaper for multiple days and annual passes.

There are some dreamsunlimited tickets that include the shuttle if you want to just bring your son. The Costco tickets are a great deal if you intend on visiting again over the next 3 years.

What's the deal with the costco tix? I'm a Sam's club member, but can have my costco friends get tix easily for me...
Thanks!

The Costco tickets are 3 day non-expiring for 3 years for about the same price as a normal 3 day park to park ticket.

We are in this boat too. We will be at WDW in June. I'll be taking the two teenagers over to IOA for one day. It'll hurt the pocketbook; however, my DD is as excited about Harry Potter as my DN is about Cinderella. :confused3 Oh the joys of being a parent.

We did the opposite last year and did Universal and one day at the Magic Kingdom.

I had rewards points so that brought the Disney tickets way down to about $40 a piece and we did Mears from our hotel to Disney.

It was an expensive day but it was worth it.

I saw somewhere on the boards a while ago of a Mears/Universal side trip that seemed reasonable. (Maybe in the transportation section?)

side trip as in from UO hotels to SW, Aquatica, Wet & Wild?
(all free from the UO resort.)

or from the motherland resort to the darkside with the Mears shuttle?
(that one is $19 per adult for rt.
$16 for children rt.)

it's in the sticky in the UO forums and a thread in the transportation forum.

Undercover tourist has Universal 1 day park to park for 123.95 adult.
