We had our first trip to Le Cellier on 1/6. As anyone there can report, it was QUITE a chilly night, so the waiting area was slammed. They were very booked, so our 8:00 ADR turned into an 8:30 seating time. Not a big deal, just harder to cope with in the cold
The fun thing was watching all the people wandering in w/o ADR's looking for a seat. It wasn't so much amusing that they were turned away, but that they were so surprised and at times angry that they were turned away. One group of 12 got quite put out that there wasn't a table service to be found.
We were finally seated and our wonderful waitress, Kendra, quickly arrived to introduce herself, tell us about the restaurant and to take our drink orders. She provided wonderful and friendly service through out our dinner, even being professional enough not to tease me when I told her to 86 the multi-grain breadsticks, that we were here for the pretzel sticks
I also appreciated that she pointed out that the butter was in the shape of Spaceship Earth. Too cute, and a little detail I would have missed otherwise.
I had planned out my meal in advance thanks to the suggestions on DIS. For appetizers, and with great anticipation I ordered the cheese soup. It was quite good, especially with the pretzel sticks. Just a smidge beer heavy, but overall a thumbs up. DH ordered the Candied Salmon.
We have some friends from New Brunswick who told us about candied salmon just a few weeks before, and swore that it was good. It's a good thing that DH ordered it and not me, b/c he pronounced it "good, but aside from the sweet sauce, even though it's cooked it tastes alot like sashimi" and I do not care for sashimi.
For dinner, we both ordered the Mushroom Filet Mignon. We ordered it medium, knowing that usually that means they come out Medium Rare, and this one did not disappoint.
I have to admit, I was skeptical going in. I can be a food snob, and I thoroughly expected this food to be so-so. I love a really good cut of meat, and have been spoiled by a local foodie meat department that sells steaks that are like buttah'. I expected, dunno, something on par with a chain steak place like Outback. But ohhhhhhhhhhhm, zen like trance occuring as I bite into a piece of steak. So tender, well seasoned, ohmmmmmmmm. Loved the little fried parsnips, though oddly my steak and risotto only had, count 'em one mushroom, while DH enjoyed a plethora on his plate which he kindly shared. Not much conversation was shared, however, as we were too busy enjoying our food.
Sadly, however, my enjoyment was cut a little short. I had ridden Mission just about an hour before for the first time. I was a little nervous, but really enjoyed it. Was surprised that I was fine afterward b/c I can get motion sick on spinning rides. Amazingly, I was to be one of those strange birds who experiences a delayed motion effect. As I was sitting there eating, I noticed the room was..errr...swaying a bit. If I looked up from my plate, I'd see the restaurant behind DH's head see-saw briefly. Halfway through my Filet and I'm realizing that while I'm not SICK, I've certainly lost quite a bit of my appetite. Oh the horror!!! DH, ever the man willing to step up the plate, kindly offered to finish the rest of my Filet for me. I have to say, I have never seen the man polish off that much meat in one sitting, It was quite impressive.
Unfortunately, my diminished appetite and DH's overindulgence in the flesh meant that we had to forego the much desired Dessert Sampler. It was a sad sad day. Though we compensated about 2 hours later by having some pastries in France.
We were not on the dining plan, so our meal with one glass of wine for DH and a glass of tea for me, before tip was $96.01 and well worth it.
