Planning for a short 4 day trip in October. (sept 28- oct 2). We'll be flying in on the 28th and out early morning on the 2nd. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way possible to do this and I've just researched too much. My fingers are crossed for FD to be available the week we arrive. From what i've been able to see, that looks like a decent bet. We will likely stay at POR and I plan on booking as soon as I hear that the discount has been released (which should be in May? Is that right?). I'd considered renting points to say in a nicer resort but the savings we would lose from the FD promotion arent worth it. Considering using UT for tickets but they really only save me 20 bucks (although I'm still waiting on my Mousesavers newsletter to see if the link they have is any better :rolleyes1) and if I used them, would I be ineligable for FD? Anyone have any experience with UT as to how much the Mousesavers discount saved them?

In order to get "free" dining in the past, you had to book a room (at rack rate) plus tickets. For the past few years, the ticket requirement has been at least 2-day base tickets for everyone in your room. You would not be able to get a "free" dining package if you don't buy the tickets, too. If you were to buy tickets from UT in addition to the 2-day base tickets, you will end up spending more money OOP than if you were to just buy tickets with enough park days directly in your package.

ETA: Last year, the "free" dining promotion also required a minimum 3-night stay.

FWIW, the Mousesavers link will only save you a couple of dollars per ticket off of the prices that UT has posted on the regular link.

Thank you! Perfect answer, and exactly what I needed to know ;)
