Our trip in May is DBF's first, and he says he gets sunburned no matter what he does. I'm sunscreen obsessed, and I've promised him he won't get burned at Disney (I never have!). The problem is he says he's allergic to most sunscreens. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good sensitive skin sunscreen that will protect his delicate epidermis from the harsh Florida rays.

Thanks!! :hippie:

clinique! it is fragrance free and tested and such for allergies. (if you need the ingredigents list just pm me) i used it over our trip and i didn't burn! i used the 25, but they have higher #'s. plus they have an after sun balm which is very nice and cooling.

You might want to try the ones specifically made for babies. They usually have the highest protection factor and are made for sensitive baby skin. This is what I always use and I got it for my Dad too, because he was sensitive too. Have him try it before you go, so if he is sensitive to it you can try another brand. Better to know before you get there, than have it ruin your trip.:thumbsup2

I have very sensitive skin, and Neutrogena works well for me. I also second the "baby sunscreen" suggestion--those never give me trouble either.

Do you know what ingreident he is allergic too? That would help in the reccomendations...

My daughter and I got a rash from the 'water babies' coppertone over spring break. I'm going to try the aveno sesitive skin I found at Target next week.

It would, wouldn't it? Unfortunately he doesn't know. *sigh* He just said he "turned all red and had to take a shower to get it off."

The baby sunscreen is probably a good idea, and it would be funny to make my 6'4" DBF put on sunscreen out of a pretty pink bottle. I'm so mean... :lmao:

It also might be worth looking into SPF reflective clothing too. I don't have any, but I hear alot about it here in Texas.

What about something like California Baby (is that the right name?)? I know my sister used it on her DD due to sensitive skin. I know Target carries it now.

My brother is like that...allergic to everything. He always used the Waterbabies when we were kids. Growing up in Florida he didn't have a choice about not wearing sunscreen. I think the things that he was allergic too were the fragrances and pabba (sp?). That might give you a start as to looking at ingredients.

I have a friend who works for the EPA and she recommends the Bullfrog line of sunscreen. That is what she uses when she is sloshing around in the wetlands testing water samples. I don't know if they have a sensitive skin formula though.

Good luck! :beach:

My DD had an allergic reaction to baby sunscreen on our first visit to WDW. That was fun. :sad2:

She can use the spray-on Coppertone now without problems. But when she was younger, I used sunscreen from a natural food grocery. Whole Foods is one that would carry stuff like that.

My little boy has very sensitive skin as well and was allergic to coppertone babies and all others I tried as well (itchy, red skin and little bumps that almost looked like hives where I put the sunscreen.) I asked his pediatritian if she had any recommendations and she suggested a brand called Blue Lizard sensitive skin formula. She said the sensitive skin formula over the baby formula. We tried it and low and behold no sensitivity issues what so ever. He's been using it all last summer with no problems at all.

My son has very sensitive skin...we have good luck with Neutrogena and Aveno.

Good luck!

I second Aveno sunscreen. I have very sensitive skin and it has worked for me.

DD and I both have extremely sensitive skin, and allergy issues with many detergents. We have always had good luck with Water Babies. My whole family uses it every summer, and have yet to burn. I second the PP who said try it before you go, and be sure there are no issues.

I think you can buy pure zinc oxide sunscreen... that is a "physical" blocker vs. a chemical one. It is kind of thick, but at least maybe he could use that on his face, since that's where I usually tend to have sensitivity problems.

I would recommend a visit to a Dermatologist to discuss the matter. It's wise to get a body check periodically, anyway. :sunny:

You should try several before your trip so you don't have to worry about a reaction while you're there.

You have some great suggestions for preventing a burn in the first place, but I'd like to offer a suggestion just in case he gets burned anyway. A product called Pinxav is for rashes, but it's a GREAT product that will also take the burn right out of a sunburn. In fact, it took the burn right out of a chemical burn on my nephew. Just google it if you're interested. It works great on heat rash, diaper rash (like a miracle for this!), bites, burns...just a wonderful product. You used to be able to buy it at walmart (OTC but at the Rx window), but I don't think they sell it anymore so I order mine online.

It's wonderful, and it's a must have for anyone who has fair skin (like me!).
