Oh, gross...

My ex-husband once left a piece of cheese in a sandwich bag in the pocket of his spring jacket on the last day he wore it and hung it in the closet. We started to smell it around early June. It smelled like someone took a rotting foot, dipped it in butt, and threw it in the closet.

Early this summer our neighbor had a horrendous smell coming from their shed. We discussed how maybe a stray cat might have died in it, the smell was SOOO bad, it actually made me nauseous.
Well, they finally cleaned it out and one of the plastic totes way in the back was turning brown. What happened was last Christmas they bought a ham and a turkey but didn't have room in their freezer. Since it is very cold here in December, they just stuck it in the tote and out in the shed....and forgot about it.

Oh man, that sounds like the stinkymeat project (only google it if you have a strong strong stomach and want to get grossed out over something that was done ten years ago!).
