We were on the 4night Dream a few weeks ago - definitely too short of a cruise! Admittedly, we had a rough start, but we had an amazing time! We were busy trying to enjoy the cruise so we never made it to the OBB desk! And now we are looking at cruising again next year! WHAT DO I DO?!? IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO? 10% is a big deal when you need two cabins to house your family! Ugh.... Is there any chance of a pin, like with the WDW resorts? Do they do such a a thing? Should I call DCL? HELP! :worship:

Randomly (and rarely) DCL does send special codes for discounts. But as to who gets them, and when they are offered is totally unknown. If you didn't book onboard, then you, basically, missed the boat (see what I did there?)

LOL! Yes, I see what you did. Very smooth PrincessShmoo!

D'oh. Lesson learned. :(

I went to the future cruise desk the last night after seeing my shipboard account balance. I seriously did not spend hardly anything. That's a first. Was going to do a placeholder but the desk was closed. I missed the boat, too. I'm not worried about it, tho. We usually sail on *GT rates + I still have other cruises booked next year. I doubt I add anymore bookings anytime soon.

I don't want to give you false hope but about 1 month after our first cruise, also on the Dream, we received a code to get the 10% off if we called DCL to book another cruise. We called and booked but were only able to get 10% off one of the cabins we booked because my wife was the one who received the discount code. Our first cruise we were in 2 cabins so only "her" cabin got the discount. BTW, our next 2 cruises were on the Fantasy and we totally fell in love with that ship. Just my $.02

ETA: I don't know if this had anything to do with it or not but about 1 week after our first cruise I did call DCL to see if there was any way we could get the discount and the CM said unfortunately no, then a few weeks later we got the discount code in the mail.

You could always try calling Disney, it's worth a shot. I'm not saying you'll get anything but you won't be any worse off than you are now.

I actually did this after a cruise. It was a 3 night, and I called DCL explaining every time I went to the cruise desk, it was packed with people. DCL took my number and they gave it to the woman on the ship who did the bookings. SHE CALLED ME!!! I was able to book with her! This may be a long shot, but try and call!!!

I may have gotten pixie dust. But ever since that, I make sure to fill out the card, and check for them to charge the deposit (in case I don't make it to the desk).

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I'll call this morning as it sounds like it's worth a try.

Wish me luck!

BE PERSISTENT! I told them since the cruise was so short, and the cruise desk was packed every time I went by (this was true)... that there was no time for me to wait there. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Good luck! Let us know!!!

I believe you can fill out a form at the future cruise desk to book a placeholder cruise. This will save you from waiting in line. I believe there are signs at the future cruise desks that explain this.

Mun,
yes, you are correct. This particular incident with me was before you could just book a just a placeholder. The OP has nothing to lose, but to call and try.

I actually filled the card on one particular cruise (and did not wait on the line), and CHECKED for them to charge the deposit. I had my laptop on the cruise, and checked that it was booked. When I went home, the reservation disappeared. I called, and they rebooked it for me at the discounted price.

It NEVER hurts to call. I always do!

The OP should absolutely call DCL. I just want to let people know they don't have to wait in line to talk with someone about a placeholder cruise. There are better things to do on the ship.

Use Raise and Target Red Card to get 10-12% off! Of course you could have done both, but at least you will get that

We too, missed the boat, but thankfully received a 10% off in the mail about a month later. We used it opening day to book our upcoming Magic cruise in 20 days! :) (Not that I'm counting down.)

Good luck!

for future reference "book on board"!! I booked my 11/15 Magic 5n on board 18 mos pre cruise and my sister decided she would wait for VGT since its November and "should" go on sale. Well it did go on sale and its $500 HIGHER than what i paid for a 7A OBB

Thanks for the confirmation. It's often been posted that those last minute *GT rates, while lower than the prevailing rates at the time, are higher than if you had booked further out, especially on opening day.

I received the 10% off about a month after our first cruise on the Magic. Have never received another after a cruise.

We had 2 cabins on our first cruise & both DH & I received a 10% pin in the mail about a month later.

OP here, Just wanted to post an update...

It's been 4 months since our cruise and no discount has been offered to us. We received our "silver" level magnets, but no discount post card. I've called multiple times and no luck. I'm really bummed because the whole family has unanimously declared that they want to cruise again. So, lesson learned.... Next time, I will book a placeholder while on board.

I just want to add some information for the OBB. Don't try to book on the 1st or last day, the desk is just crazy. However, I book a dummy cruise with a deposit of $250. It takes 5 minutes, I don't talk to them about future dates, floors, or anything else. And, the CM gets the credit for the sell. I don't use credit cards so I went to the gift shop and got a gift card for $250. Then I walked to the OBB desk and let him know what I was doing. Seriously 5 minutes. They get you a confirmation number that you can provide DCL to get the discount.

Hopefully you will get you 10% off certificate in the mail. And yes, a phone call COULD be beneficial.
