Okay, this is soooo my luck.
A few weeks ago, booked a 7 night stay at POP. Dates are Dec 4-11th.
My party includes my DH, DS-5 and DS-1
I've been reading these boards, getting WONDERFUL information on the different resorts. Felt good about my choice about POP.
NOW, today......I read some posts that the week we are going, is the same week that the Pop Warner football/cheerleaders will be at the value resorts.
Now, I'm worried. Reading the different threads, the value resorts are just jamed packed with all these kids, and they sorta "take over" the resort. :sad2:
This is our first family visit to WDW and I'm really turned off by the thought of having football players and cheerleaders running all over the resort going crazy.....(that's what one of the threads said....)
I talked to DH and we're considering staying at one of the moderate resorts. (just have to save up a bit more $$$) Can anyone recommend a nice moderate resort. Because I have two young kids, I wouldn't want to have to walk miles to get to, lets say the bus or to a food court. Any advice would be appreciated.

Actually, i believe, they put them over at the AS resorts. Not sure if they overflow to POP.

I'd change resorts if you can. We were at AsSps in 96 and it was horrific. The kids were so out of control they closed the pool multiple times. The coaches/chaperones did nothing.

We've only stayed CBR for a mod and liked it.

I was at Pop last year December 5-12 (during Pop Warner week). They were NOT a problem at Pop. If there were any there I never saw them. The same goes for the parks. Keep your ressie at Pop and save the money for other things. Pop Warner is not a problem at Pop Century.

I'm a big fan of Port Orleans - I think next to Ft Wilderness, it is one of the prettiest resorts on property!

So sorry for you, but actually...Coronado Springs is a beautiful hotel, along with a wonderful pool that they call "The Dig"...it's got a pyramid that is a waterfall into the pool, great playground area....got to Allearsnet.com and check out the moderate hotel pictures....enjoy!

I think Port Orleans French Quarter is a great resort for kids your age, everything is compact, and the pool is nice.

I would change resorts. I also heard that there is some spillover mostly into POR, so I would pick POFQ.

I have a cheerleader, and if I were you, I would not want to stay anywhere near them. You could possibly be "safe" at the Pop but I wouldn't take the chance. My mom, sister and I are going in December (after my family trip in September) the 1st-3rd, and we didn't consider any value resorts for that reason. I heard POFQ is a nice place to be and a great moderate hotel.

am i crazy- or do some the above posts make no sense? :confused3

I'm not sure what doesn't make sense? No offense, but...a little crazy? All in kindness, btw...

Give the actual Pop Century resort a call. The supervisor at the front desk should be able to answer your question. I think the cheer groups stay at the All Stars resorts. Hope it works out for you.

We go every year when they are there and have never had a problem with them. Maybe I am more tolerant but sometimes I would say you wouldn't even notice.

I do think all the moderates are beautiful though, for kids, especially young though, pop is wonderful! They are one of the few that have the fountains the kids can play in, both in the kiddie pool and a seperate place. The teenagers wouldn't be there anyways.

It is hit or miss in the moderates, sometimes you are ten miles from things, other times pretty close. I don't find one more compact than the other though. Good luck and just have fun, no matter what!

The reason that the OP will be "safe" at Pop is because Pop is not equipped to take in the large groups, and they don't. There will be no impact from Pop Warner at Pop Century!!

tee hee, now I get what you were saying. Maybe I need to drink and post!

I would not choose Riverside if you are concerned about sports groups. POR is where they also book.
Agree, if it really may be a concern for you, book at CSR. (The deluxe of the moderates.)
I think Disney is very good about trying to keep like groups alike. But if you really are concerned, I suggest changing to a moderate. (But not POR.)

The last 2 years we have stayed at CBR during Pop Warner week and I will not lie to you, there were a ton of kids but we were not at the resort durning the day and the kids went to breakfast first thing in the morning so we missed them there too. They were back at the resort at night having fun and goofing around, kids being kids. They did have alot of adult supervision and overall it didnt bother us (we dont have kids). I would stay stick with POP (love that resort) chances are you wont be bothered

I wouldn't choose POFQ either if I were you. Last year, we were there when Pop Warner was. Even though they don't stay at POFQ, they stay at POR. The 2 resorts share many of the same buses. There were a few times the buses were JAM PACKED at night with cheerleaders going back to the hotel. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and we have a 3 yr old. Not fun trying to carry a sleeping kid onto a standing room only bus!

They certainly didn't take over the resort, but Pop definitely took some "spill over". So to say they won't at all effect Pop I think is false. We didn't use the Food Court in the AM, so that wasn't an issue. They were at the pool late night (being a little wild...I agree just kids being kids), after my kids were in bed, (I only saw them when I was doing laundry). Since their schedules keep them very busy at WWofS during the day, they were not a problem then. The only time they impacted my vacation was leaving the parks at night. If I can be truthful, the kids were fine; it was the chaperones...and I use that term very loosely. On 2 evenings, once at MK and once at Ep, we were waiting in line for the bus back. If there were a few of their group in line ahead they'd all cut and join them. One time the cheerleader basically said, "Mom, we can't stay up here. These people have been waiting." The mom ignored her. I am not talking about 2 or 3 people popping up to their family after a bathroom break. I am talking about groups of 10 or 12 just strolling ahead of 100 people in line. It was infuriating! Not only because it wasn't a fair thing to do, but because of the example it set for every single kid witnessing it. Mind you, I was with my DH and 3 princesses, plus 6 months pregnant at the time...

Sorry for the long story. However, I thought I should share my firsthand experience. Of course that was in 2004 and a lot could change. And I should say, I loved everything about Pop and probably would change when I go versus where I stay.

Good luck deciding.
