Has anyone else seen the new Oh Canada film featuring Martin Short? What a great improvement. A must see.!

Did not see the old movie but did get the opportunity to see the Martin Short film this fall...I agree that it a fabulous representation of our great country!

It was nice to see the updated version in October. I was never a fan of the old show.

I saw the new Canada film on my trip in Nov and I was *very* impressed! I felt very proud while watching it. I actually got a little teary! (happy tears)

Now if they would just get rid of those ridiculous Canadian cast member outfits.

Does anyone know if they sell Canadian Beaver Tails at the kiosk?

The first time I went to Disney, I watched O Canada! once, and hated it. I actually felt embarassed by it!

When I went back this past September, and saw the new version, we actually saw it three times during our week stay. It was such an improvement, and actually quite funny!

Of course, the CM's wouldn't let us play along with the trivia questions they ask during the pre-show...

As to beaver tails, unfortunately, there weren't any there in September, but maybe it was just a refurbishment thing. Who knows.

We talked to the CM's at teh Canada building and some really like the new film but most wish we still had the old film of teh ones we spoke with anyhow. They say it depicted Canada and it's beauty far better than the new film. They commented that if it wasn't for the song and Martin Short it could just as easily be used in the US pavilion or many other areas. I told them I was dissapointed that it was changed and they agreed we went into the shop and bought a couple items (like a couple boxes of SMARTIES) but never went in to the film and likely never will.

The beavertail booth is now gone and will not be back the CM's there even said they went so far as to petition Disney to bring in a Timmies but due to contracts with Nestle they can't.

Now if they would just get rid of those ridiculous Canadian cast member outfits.

So if they get rid of our outfits then they have to get rid of the UK and German etc outfits. They represent the countries history not modern day Canada Germany or the UK etc if they did they would just dress everyone in jeans and t shirts. Where is the National identity in that? Do you like going to the other country pavilions and seeing the traditional garments? I know I do it is a look into the past and the history of that country.

One of the CM's we were talking to is now engaged to another CM that works in the UK pavilion and apparently the Canada costumes are the envy of all the others as they are pretty liberal with what they get to wear like the shorts etc the other CM's wish they had the Canada costumes apparently.

I thought it was a great improvement over the other movie. Funny and it keeps your attention, I think it shows our country's cities and wilderness and everything in between.

How come you didn't go see it? You might have liked it.

I like the uniforms, besides what would you replace them with?

I loved the new film. I like how it depicted not just the east side of Canada, but allowed people to see the Rockies, Calgary, and the Prairies. I think it was very funny and the scenery was fantastic! A huge improvement over the old film. When I talked to the CM's about it, they all loved it! They all agreed that it was way better then the old one....I didn't meet anyone who thought it was worse :confused3
As for the Tim Hortons debate....count me out of that vote....we don't like timmies. Now, a Second Cup - that would have my vote!

I always remember the old film as the one my parents would force us to watch and grinding my teeth throughout because I wanted to go on Space Mountain. I never saw it as an adult as a result of those bad feelings. heheh. Now that they have changed it though I'm looking forward to going back to Canada the next time I'm in Epcot.

One year we went during Rememberance day and we got paper poppies from the CMs to wear for the day!

I am so glad to hear they updated the film! The last time I was there (back in 2004) I was very disappointed with the one they had. I remember leaving the 'video room' feeling sorry for the people who thought that Canada was really like that. I remember there being a lot of shots of Toronto and Ottawa, and that it had good scenic shots...but it was 3 years ago that I saw the video.

I was also quite disappointed to see the Canada pavilion with a giant totem pole and log cabin. I understand that aboriginal peoples played a large part in our history, and that some parts of the country still have strong ties, but I don't think it's a fair representation of our country. Maybe if they had the parliament building in Ottawa, or the CN Tower or something, it would be a bit less stereotypical. And maybe they do have a mini-parliament building, but I don't remember it.

It is my boycot of them replacing the old film with the new one. now had they used BOB and DOUG in the show I would have been in in a heartbeat LOL.

I agree about the uni I guess we could dress them up like the Voyageurs from the old days but then people would complain about them to. Or we could dress them all in old Hudson Bay Company garb.

I'm not sure, but the current ones are ridiculous... no one in Canada dresses like that. I suppose it's so they fit some sort of stereotype and look distinct, but the fact is, we dress just like Americans. But at least they don't carry around hockey sticks.

Agreed! I was so happy that they'd gotten rid of the old one.

I liked the fact that they had used some of it's footage, but with a more realistic description of our country.

ChrisJo, your experience seems more realistic to me. I cannot imagine any Canadian preferring the old one--I mean, what was that American southern accent doing in Alberta!?!

I suppose someone who saw it when it first opened, might have appreciated the nostalgia, but, it was so badly 'what Americans think Canada is' as opposed to 'what Canada is'.

Now if they would just get rid of those ridiculous Canadian cast member outfits.

Agreed!!!!

Well, I might buy those arguments if the uniforms were at all representative of Canadian historical dress. But, they aren't. They are some strange disney creation.

I'd be happy to see old trapper clothing, or the clothing brought over by Europeans. Or, camping clothing, forestry wear, etc.

I don't have any need for their costumes to be the jeans and t-shirts that most of us wear, but, they ought to be something that some Canadians (other than disney CMs) have worn at some point in time!

Does anyone know if they sell Canadian Beaver Tails at the kiosk?

Apparently, they used to, but they didn't sell :confused3 so they are gone.

Have you seen teh American costumes? They all look like Betsy Ross or George Washington's wife for crying out loud no one in the US dresses like that anymore just like no one dresses like a lumberjack any longer but it is a way of identifying the country and it's cast members. Do you know anyone in Germany that runs around in Leiderhosen any time other than maybe during their Octoberfest or Carnival celebration I know I don't and my aunt and uncle go home to Germany every year for that celebration. Just like the people in the Uk don't dress like Mary Poppins or an old show shine boy for lack of a better description but the UK CM's dress in the traditional/old style. I guess we could make them dress in an Anne of Green Gables outfit and people may be happier but really is it that necessary. I remember in the 80's lumberjackets were all the rage for kids.

Well, if they dressed them like lumberjacks, I wouldn't complain.

The problem is that they are spreading the idea that this weird costume is what lumberjacks used to wear.

We just saw the new film last weekend, and we were very impressed. I was happy to see Niagara Falls in the first 30 seconds, and loved Martin Short's commentary! I was also happy that they still had the song ... although I think the guy next to me wasn't overly impressed by my singing. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Great new film ... everyone should go and see it! The opening sequence alone is worth it. LOL

No. It's gone for good and I can't say I'm sad. It's just a big piece of deep fried dough! Not only that but it's not exactly a popular Canadian treat.

They commented that if it wasn't for the song and Martin Short it could just as easily be used in the US pavilion or many other areas.

I can understand that some people might prefer the old film over the new one but I don't get this comment. How could it be American? It's filled with footage from across CANADA, including the rocks of Newfoundland, the Mounties, the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls, and the unmistakable landmarks of our cities. My suggestion is to actually see the film before passing comment.

I loved the new film! It's such a big improvement. We got to see it the second day it was opened. The CM gave me a list of all the scenes when I asked. I posted it on here back in September when we got back but I can't find it right now.
