I am so excited we booked DVC for Grand Cali for our first EVER trip to DL...BUT...it's 12/29-1/3. My son is marching in the rose bowl parade so that is why we are going. I know it is going to be CRAZY busy, so do you think I should just skip the parks this time around or go for it. We only have really two full days to go to the parks and maybe a half day. The two days are 12/31 and 1/1...EEK. I am sure we will eventually make it back to CA maybe in 4-5 years or so.

Also if I do decide to go, I am really considering using the ridemax program that Pete used and recommended when he went to DL.

Thanks!!

I think you are in luck! 12/31 is a Sat and 1/1 is a Sunday. So both days will offer Magic Mornings! I'd go to DL for MM on Sat and then head over to DCA from late afternoon on. LY they had a GREAT NYE countdown and fireworks so you'll still have an amazing NYE even at DCA. 1/1 is usually REALLY empty at DL until afternoon, so I'd hit the MM again at DL and play it by ear and head to DCA if it get's too crazy. You can always head back to DL for a F! ressie or just to enjoy the night time sights at DL on the 1st.

Have fun!

Try to hit the highlights/classics.

Go in the morning, get FPs. Use FPs and come back at night using the rest of the FPs.

Great advice except on New Year's Eve, if you leave the park, there is a definite possibility you won't be allowed back in at night if the parks are at capacity, which on New Year's Eve is almost a guarantee!

I assume you'll be at the Rose Parade watching your son? That won't give you much time in the park on New Year's Day. Wait a minute. Because the first is a Sunday, the parade and game will be Monday. So hopefully early morning on the 1st won't be too bad, assuming you don't party all night on New Year's Eve.

I thought resort guests were allowed back in? Maybe not, though...

There is a whole hierarchical system. I forget the order, but basically, first they stop selling new tickets. Then, if it gets too crowded, they won't allow in people that are using their tickets for the first time that day, but they'll allow guests that have handstamps. Then, somewhere in there is guests staying on-site. BUT, there is a point where they've just reached capacity and they won't let anyone else in b/c of fire code, and if it's going to happen on any day of the year, it will be NYE.
