After 2 years of saving, paying off debt, researching the rv market and rv options, we took the plunge on Monday. I found a 35 ft 2002 Winnebago Brave in excellent condition for under $40k. It has 2 slides, Workhorse chassis, Chevy 8.1 V8, only 25k miles, new Michelin tires, a large 4 door fridge and is really nice looking inside and out. We are so excited. I sold the Excursion and the travel trailer last fall. Now the 1000 mile trip to the Fort will be fun and restfull instead of a drag. What a week: monday was my birthday when we drove down to Houston to check out 3 class a's at PPL Motorhomes. What a great birthday, finding my dream RV only 4 hours from home. Today my wife and I are celebrating 32 years of marriage. Saturday we go back to Houston to get the RV and drive it home. We check in at the Fort on June 4th for an 8 day vacation. I am investing $40,000 because we fell in love with Fort Wilderness on our first trip back in 2000.

I feel your excitement! Congratulations! Although we decided on getting a travel trailer, at our age, we didn't want to invest a lot of money into a motorhome - but we LOVE motorhomes! Enjoy! If we were to win the lottery ;) we would definitely invest in a motorhome. In the meantime, we do enjoy our travel trailer. We haven't been to Fort Wilderness yet, but we plan to go there since we moved to Florida in July. Wishing you a safe, happy, and fun trip! :wizard:

Congratulations/Happy Anniversary party:

And please, lots of photos!!!!!!

Man, so exciting. We drove 3.5 hours to Houston Sat morning. Did the demo, inspection and closed the deal! We just couldn't be any happier. Everything performed perfectly on the drive home: generator, ac, lights, engine, etc. The Winne is solid and quiet, very few squeaks or rattles. I drove up 59 through Houston and hit a bit of a traffic jam but I was not nervous at all. Its just very easy to drive. And this is my first motorhome. Now to start loading our stuff, its only about 11 weeks till we head east 1000 miles with SIL's new custom golf cart in tow!

WE TOO will going to the Fort at the same time, but we checking in on the 5th! What part of East TX are you guys from? we are in Shreveport
Hi Marty, we are in Kilgore, the oil capitol of the world (back in the day), the home of the world famous Kilgore College Rangeretts. We were in Shreveport in January. My wife had surgery at Schumpart. They did a great job, its a fine hospital. Not far from Schumpart is a little 'ol 75 year old bar-restaraunt called Herby-K's. Man they have the best fryed shrimp and onion rings in the world! Love Shreveport. Hope to see you at the fort, neighbor.
