I have my 3rd off-site trip happening in 28 days. I like the convenience of having a condo with full kitchen and laundry.
I am a single mom and it is nice to be able to invite other people to join us because we have a 3 bed/3 bath condo that is way too big for just my son and I. I have invited another single mom to join us next month and since I have the timeshare booked and it doesn't cost me any extra to have them join us, so I am not charging her anything. We are splitting the cost of the rental car, groceries, tolls and gas which I would expect to end up being about $250 for the week. I have an AP so we don't have to pay parking.
To me, it is a win-win situation. I get company and she gets an affordable vacation. It was also pretty cool last year to have my brother and his family join us - it made it totally affordable for the 4 of them to do Disney without having any accomodation cost. The way I look at it is that I have to pay my maintenance fees whether I use the condo or not so as long as it doesn't cost me any extra to bring other people, I will not charge them anything.
I am going to try the All-Star Music in November and sharing a room with another single mom and her son - I must admit I am very nervous about it. I don't enjoy line-ups and crowds so knowing that I will be at the parks in line-ups then come back to resort to line-ups - it will be interesting. Going from a 1,520 sq ft condo with 3 bed/3 bath to 260 sq ft room with 1 bath -

The funny thing about staying at Disney Value Resort is that it will actually cost about $150 more than doing the timeshare thing.
