Offsite, need help with transportation

Just my oldest (17) and me for a 5 day trip in early December. Originally I booked in at Pop Century and have Disney take care of transportation needs. Now my sister has chimed in with unused vacation club points (diamond, not disney) that would give us a 2 bedroom for free.

The plusses: more space, nicer resort and a $600 savings

The minus: Have to arrange transportation from the airport (no shuttle) to the parks daily, and back to the airport.

I've done three Disney trips (all as an adult) 2 onsite and one offsite. The offsite was not the experience I want to repeat. But, Free! Which means we could sneak in a day to Universal.

Am I just being a wimp?

Thanks!
Tracy

Rent a car. Should not cost you anything near the $600 you are saving, even with parking at the parks. Personally, I wouldn't stay off site without a car.

I'd either rent a car or stay on site. The off site shuttles when they are even offered are nothing to be excited about. I wouldn't take a free room if it is a huge hassle to get around.

I know it is personal preference, but we always have a car at Disney. I really like the flexibility it offers. We really enjoy staying offsite with a car. Good luck with your decision!

We found the price of getting to and from the airport was the same price as renting a car! Family of five for a 5-day trip. Plus, we are hopping each day, so we like the flexibility.

i'd use the word "free" loosely.

you're gonna want to rent a car. (offsite shuttle services are not the greatest option)
and you're gonna have to pay $17 per day for parking.

after those things are you gonna have enough of your $600 savings to go to universal without having to dig into your wallet?

if not then i'd just stay onsite.

Also second (or third or fourth) renting a car. I highly doubt it would cost you the $600 savings so why don't you figure the cost of a rental car (for two people, economy would be fine since you would have the back seat empty), plus daily parking at the parks ($17/day) and a tank of gas (prices are going down) and then see what that adds up to.

Also figure the distance of the free accommodations and add that time into your schedule. That, only you can determine.

Rental cars are pretty cheap in Orlando. I would never stay offsite without one and sometimes still get one while onsite.
