We're planning a one week trip to LA for our Canadian March Break.

Trying to find the perfect hotel location!

Here is what we are hoping for with this trip:

1) 2 mayyyyybe 3 days at DL
2) 1 day at US
3) The rest will be shopping days and days to explore downtown Hollywood.

I'm tempted to stay near US because of it's proximity to downtown Hollywood. But it seems so far from DL. Is there a happy medium??

Thank you!:flower1::love:pixiedust:

Alas, no, there is no real good place between the two.

I would base myself in the Anaheim area, and spend a day at Universal Studios Hollywood.

then focus on things to do near Disneyland.

Another option is to split your stay, spend 4 nights in Anaheim, then move to the Hollywood area (near the corner of Hollywood and Highland) for the other 2 or 3 days.

I like the Hollywood Orchid Suites and the Magic Castle Hotel for great reviews, reasonable prices and good location, lots within walking distance.

The third option is to stay on the beach, like Huntington Beach, Long Beach or Newport Beach, but then you are commuting every day (minimum drive of at least 30 minutes each way).

I agree with Darkbeer1- don't try to stay in the middle or "commute" to DL from the US area for more than one day. You're signing yourself up for joining the legions of LA commuters and traffic every day and you will arrive at wherever you are going for the day already frazzled/late/stressed (not to mention then having to drive back after a long day).

A one day trip to US from the DLR area is viable but if you want more Hollywood area time then a split stay would be your best bet. I know it seems silly to move lodging when they seem so close together but I think you'll be happier without so much driving around.

As a non local who stays and travels all over the LA Basin regularly for both work and play I STRONGLY suggest doing a split stay with your itinerary...few days down by DL then do a few days up near US/Hollywood. You are gonna waste a COLOSSAL amount of time each and every day with traffic if you try and split the difference and setting yourself up for a miserable time IMO.

If I am staying anywhere in So Cal then plan on hitting the park I will ALWAYS transfer to a hotel right near the park even if it is for just one night.

I would do a split stay as well. Hollywood is accessible from many hotels near USH. Look at the Sheraton and Hilton at Universal. Also Sportsmen's Lodge and The Garland have free shuttles to Universal. There is a red line station down the hill and across the street from Universal. There is no such thing a "downtown Hollywood."
