We are looking to go to DL in May for the Blast to the Past WDAC convention. We are considering staying off site. Can you suggest any hotels (preferably with in walking distrance)? As you can see, I have always stayed on property at DL. Thanks for your help!::MickeyMo

Herer are a couple of links to sites that show some of the accomodations around Disneyland. My Favorites are Teh Howard Johnson and the Candy Cane Inn.
Howard Johnson has numerous buildings with interior corridors and most rooms have a balconey, some of which give great views of the fireworks. The rooms are comfortable though a bit bland. There is a shop that has quite a load of items and a Mimi's cafe across the street. There is a new pool area and kiddie pool. The walk to the parks is about 7 minutes.
The Candy Cane Inn is a two story motel that was remodeled and has a sort od garden court feel with a slight New Orleans feel. The rooms are pretty and have some atmosphere though they are not big. There is a nice free breakfast and a small pool, wading pool and hot tub. The walk is about 7 minutes.
The closest place to walk from is the Best Western Park Place Inn and Mini suites. There place is a bit bland but the rooms have a nice tropical decore and were quiet. There is a free continental breakfast and the walk is 4 minutes or so.
Other decent places are located very close but these are my favorites.

That's great info---I was going to post a question about which hotel is the absolute closest!!

These motels are the closest and are good to just okay places to stay.
The Best Western Park Place Inn and Mini Suites
The Tropicana
The Park Inn
The Park Vue (Inexpensive but gets generally bad reviews, our room was just okay)
The Desert Inn and Suites

We are going in April, and I was wondering about the Candy Cane Inn. Can you walk from it to DL? Do they have refridgerators in the room?

Seems like this one has been mentioned a lot on this board so that I why I was thinking about checking it out.

The pictures are taken from great angles to show it off at its best. The Inn is just a two story U shaped motel. There is parking all inside the U. The pool is in the middle of the parkinglot behind the guest services building but it is surrounded by a fence and lush vegitation. It is amazing what they have done with a simple older motel. The rooms are decorated as they are in the photo but only the more expensive Deluxe rooms have a refridgerator and microwave. The walk from the Candy Cane is about 7 minutes or so depending on how fast you are. They also have their own shuttle that is free and doesn't stop at any other hotels or motels.

Is there much difference between the standard and deluxe rooms? I actually think there were 3 catagories offered.

During our last visit to DL we stayed at the Crowne Plaza. It is not within walking distance but has an excellent shuttle service that is free. The hotel is beautiful and recently built. Rates were much lower than I expected. We ended up paying about $65/night because they had a special running that included the 4th night free. There is a Target right across the street which was great for buying snacks, bottled water, etc. Also, there are a couple of restaurants next door. One was Joe's Crabshack and I can't remember the other. I believe the location is actually listed as Garden Grove, but it's not really that far. What I have discovered about many of the hotels within walking distance of the parks are that they look great on the outside but the actual rooms are old and in need of refurbishment. And, let's face it ... after walking in the parks all day, nothing is close enough!

I haven't stayed in any of the deluxe rooms but I read that they are bigger, you can fit a roll a way in for a 5th person and they have the fridge and microwave.
I think the third catagory is sort of an addition of a VCR and movies, breakfast delivered to your door and that sort of thing. The room would not be any different as far as I know.

Has anyone stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites? Are the rooms nice and and is it literally across the street from DL? Is it also within walking distance to California Adventure? Thank you!

I stayed there in the mid 90's and it was fine. We had one of the parlor suites which had two beds in the bedroom and a pullout sofa and TV in the "parlor" which is really small. The room was not themed or particularly pretty or memorable but it was fine and clean. It is a 4-6 minute walk to the front gates of the parks not including the traffic light at the crosswalk. Try this link and you will see that Disneyland and California Adventure are right across from eachother with no stree to cross. Desert Inn and Suites is right across the street from the new Tower of Terror.
Reviews I have read recently seem to indicate some nice rooms and some non remodled rooms that are dirty and worn.

We stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites in 2000. I was not impressed. The rooms were very run down. We will most likely never stay there again. On our next trip we stayed at the Candy Cane and absolutely loved it.

Prices at Candy Cane Inn seem to always be between 77 and 99 dollars. The deluxe rooms can be a bit more. I haven't seen it at $69 in a long time.

I just booked 2 nights standard AARP/AAA for $87 plus 15%tax for 2 nights in June 2004.

we like the coast anaheim, which is about 3 minutes walk(allowing for traffic lights) down from the candy cane. Really big rooms with balconies, nice pool, on site restaurant, small gym and, if you get disney view, overlooks both parks and the fireworks. We got a deal of $67 over Xmas on their website - don't have the link sorry but I think it's coasthotels. com
