Hello!

DS has a peanut allergy(is ok with tn) and we are trying to research on any offsite restaurants that may be safe.

Does anyone know of any that we should definitely AVOID?

We are especially looking at breakfast places and chain restaurants for the drive down (we are driving from Indiana).

We will be doing most of our eating at our condo but may want to stop a few times for a quick bite.

Thanks!

Our 4 year old is PA and we do eat out a lot. Fast Food we do really well with the PA, it's his sesame allergy that gives us a hard time there. You can check any of the fast food's web sites to get a list of allergens. We avoid most desserts but are ok with soft serve ice cream. We have never had an issues at any chain table service such as Applebee's just avoid most dessert or have a very detailed conversation with the manager on the desserts. We do avoid Asian places unless we are familiar with the staff and manager. Our local Japanese fusion is great and our little guy is treated like a king there! Buffets are always a risk but we sometime do them but avoid the deserts completely except soft serve ice cream in a bowl gotten away from the dessert area.

have you determined if peanut oil gives him trouble? I have peanut allergies and I CAN eat items cooked in peanut oil (which seems to be all the rage everywhere you go)

that said, I've never had any trouble at any chain . My trouble always has happened with someone making a baked good and failing to mention that they used peanuts. Cracker barrel has pretty good breakfasts (ok, heart attack on a plate, lets call it what it is) but never had issues there. And they're pretty much every 10 feet on the highway LOL.

and however, I am not highly allergic. I do not react to the peanut butter sandwiches that I make my kids but I cannot rinse out the empty peanut butter container - if that gives you an indication of where I fall.

I have a peanut allergy and strangely enough I was able to eat at Chick Fil A with no problem given I have had a reaction to peanut oil. However after freaking out and calling my doctor who explained to me that refined peanut oil is okay cause most of the allergens that cause my anaphylactic reactions have been filtered out. I found Chick Fil A to be no problem. There is also a Golden Corral offsite as well that I don't have a problem with so long as I avoid the desserts (or grab some soft serve in a bowl away from the peanut products such as what MSSANDRA would do).

Its very important to understand the peanut oil thing. like lilmissdisney, we are fine at chick- fil-a but are not OK with the peanut oil used in many Asian restaurants. We are OK if they use another oil in a clean pan in that Asian restaurant so it's all about knowing your child's reaction levels. We have gotten so much better in the last two years at really understanding what is OK and what are are willing and not willing to risk.

One other suggestion I follow is when we travel, which we do a lot, I always carry extra epi-pens. You never know what the response time may be from any location and travel puts your pen more at risk for extreme temperatures damage. We just returned from a trip that included train travel and I carried three pens just because I am overly cautious but I was not sure of the emergany plan and wanted to be sure we were covered:worship: Same rules on an airplane too.

I really find as many risk outside of restaurants as in them where we are always on the alert. Uncrustable are everywhere! I HATE uncrustable. Kids take a couple bites, the stuff squishes out and they lay in down on park benches and picnic tables and window seals and....get the picture!

We drive from MA to WDW a lot. I really try to bring food with us. A lot of places in the south fry with peanut oil. My DD is severely allergic and has reacted to peanut oil. As long as you mention your allergy, most restaurants can make you a safe breakfast. We always stay at Hampton Inns on the way, and DD usually eats fruit and yogurt to stay safe.

Thanks everyone we are still unsure about his reaction levels we pretty much just avoid and since he is always with me its easy to keep him from it (He is only 1). Now when he starts school it will be a whole new ball game...

I am bringing 2 epis on the trip, we will probably try out cracker barrel and I emailed Giordanos who said they use no peanut ingredients. (ds loves pizza so we thought it would be a fun night in with delivery)

I plan on bringing lunches into the park but I am pretty comfortable with dining in Disney it seems like they really take extra care.

Thanks for the responses:)
