Officially Nervous-Do we need ADR for this week?

We leave on Thursday for a surprise trip for ds7 b-day. I've kept it a secret from kids the whole time . I made only one ADR for Chef Mickey's for ds birthday. We don't like to be forced to be somewhere to eat because of ADR's. I just read some trip reports and are seeing that people report being turned away from ts because of not having ADR's. Should I call today and try to make some and then alter or theme parks to make the ADR's or will we be ok? We will be there 1-19 thru 1-24.

I wouldnt say you need ADR. But you can judge it by how the crowds are when you get to the parks. But I highly doubt they are much.

I would always reccommend one the day of, cause you can go to any guest relations including the hotels and they can make the reservation for you.

When we were there the beginning of December we had ADRs for all of our days. We were able to switch those around a little the day of or a few days before. However, at the more popular restuarants (Kona, Ohana, LTT, LeCellier) people were turned away because they were fully booked. At restuarants like Chef de France and Artist Point people were being asked to return after 8:30PM. I saw some simply exhausted children at AP arriving at 8:30PM. That was awful, the children were cranky and screaming and the parents were frustrated and ignoring them (which I haven't figured out how to do)

If I were you I would try to make a few more ADRs. I know they can seem confining and less spontaneous, but I would rather feel less carefree and not be grumpy when I can't find some place to eat

Luckily, you're going at a less popular time of year, so it shouldn't be too tough to get into the restaurants you want. As some of the other posters suggested, you will probably have a problem if you want to have dinner at LeCellier, Ohanas, etc. because they are popular restaurants. Personally, I make sure to book most of our dinners ahead of time, because I want to get certain time slots for our dinners so that we don't miss fireworks/parades, etc. If you're flexable about where and when you eat you'll be ok without reservations. . otherwise I'd call.

DD and I just got back. We were there last Wednesday through Saturday. On Wednesday night we called and tried to get a reservation at Whispering Canyon and Chef Mickey's for that night and both were full. We did get into The Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary without problem.

We had ADR for the Norway Princess lunch and did counter service for everything else.

We just returned on Saturday. When I was checking in at most of our table service meals, The CMs were not taking any walk up customers. Some of the restaurants did not seem crowded, yet they still wouldn't take any walkups. I would definitely try to make some reservations at least the morning of your meal just to be safe.

I am going on Friday and made ADRs for a few restaurants. I had to change the days Im going to some places because they were booked a month ago. You could wing it or you could call today and see how booked up they really are.
