Official Wine & Dine 2018

Hi! Newbie here (last and only rD race was EEC '09).

My training plan said to run 3.25 miles on Thursday, but I will be walking around WDW a lot (not going to parks, but it seems like I put 20k steps in regardless each day). I don't want my legs to be too tired for the 10k. Should I skim it down a little?

Thanks for all the help!

I miss EEC.

Caution runners bathroom lines may be long! so you might have a hard time just quickly hitting a portapotty for the race.

I might trim down the length of your run on Thursday.

I always like to run to the bathroom at the last second before I run so I want to make sure I know the timing if possible.
Just be careful with this. I like to do the same and never had a problem... until one of the Dark Side halfs. The potty lines were outrageous and I thought I gave myself plenty of time when I got into one, but when I finally came out of the potty, the place was EMPTY and the volunteers manning my corral (not an early one - I want to say 3rd from last) were insisting it was closed and they wouldn't allow anyone else in. Never mind that it was half-empty and hadn't gone anywhere yet. There were about 100 of us arguing with them and they wouldn't budge... so people started hopping the fence to get in. It was nuts!

Anyway, my point is that they do close corrals at some point and if you aren't in yours when it closes, you run the risk of having to start in a later one. Or hopping a fence and incurring the Angry Eyes of a couple volunteers. YMMV. :rolleyes1

I agree with this! 2 years ago for the wine and dine we were trying to wait a while before getting in line. When we finally did, of course our line was not moving. There were plenty of people behind us, so we weren't last or anything, but we were in line, almost to the front, when the National Anthem was playing. We were freaking out but at that point we were too invested to just leave. ;) We did somehow make it to our corral and were let in to start on time but I really thought we were going to have to jump in a later corral. As much as I want to wait until the last minute to go, I don't think I will do that again. It was too stressful. ;)

What time do the corrals close? Also gear check? I always like to run to the bathroom at the last second before I run so I want to make sure I know the timing if possible.

I had a similar situation waiting in a photo line during princess weekend. This was my first runDisney event, and while I learned sooo much from the forums here, I felt like I was winging it and just following the crowds once I got off the bus. I didn't realize right away that there were photo lines while waiting for the corrals to open, so when I did realize it I hopped onto the end of the closest one to me. While I was on line they repeatedly made announcements that the corrals were open and they wanted everyone to make their way to their corrals. I thought about leaving, but I figured I already invested my time in the line, and no one else was leaving. I got my photo, but I just made it into my corral before they closed it off. I guess it wouldn't have been a big deal if I was in a later corral, but it's definitely something to think about! Next time I'll be more prepared and get into a line a lot sooner than I did!

I looked at the guide and see the 5K is in Animal Kingdom. I am used to it being in Epcot from the Star wars marathons. Is this normal for the food and wine?

Getting SUPER excited now for the races and vacation in general. Hard to concentrate at work! I'm watching Sunday's weather closely. The rain chances seem to be shifting (at least per Weather Underground) so... we'll see. I will pack ALL my rain gear and hope that there is no lightning.

I don't arrive until Friday afternoon but looking forward to seeing some expo photos (or at least some race shirt photos?) tomorrow!!

Hopefully that rain is typical Florida afternoon rain, not early morning race rain.

Sorry, but we're out of summer storm season - those are produced by sea breezes from both coasts colliding. Rain can be at any time of day now, and is dependent on fronts moving through. Best way to see what may be coming is to look at radar of the whole country and see if any blobs are moving across and/or down. The forecast will keep changing based on when they think the front will arrive, and how far into FL they think it may reach. Just bring rain gear, just in case, trust V :)

I read that some people track the balloon ladies...Has anyone ever done this? How would you know who to track?

Seeing that the lows are in the 60s even if it does rain it won't be a cold rain. I might bring a rain vest in case it is pouring or sideways but even a heavy drizzle would feel good at those temperatures. Since it is going to be warm for both races (anything above the 40s I consider warm for racing temperature) it would actually feel nice if it rains lightly for the race.
