Official Wine & Dine 2014

Food is always a premium ... During with Wine and Dine weeks, it's hit and miss ... A lot of good food non-ADR related ... That said, we have many already booked .... We're crazy planners

Brian and Caitie

you guys are making me nervous. Should I be thinking about food and reservations too?

We have no plans of making any dining reservations. I'm a planner, but this is going to be a more relaxed get away for us, so I won't be scheduling anything. I don't think we're even going to do the parks!

We will also be having breakfast at Kona on Saturday after our 5k. Hubby is running the 1/2, but not me. What city do you live in? We are more than 25 miles from DL, but frequent it often!

We live in Torrance; if you're familiar with the South Bay beaches (Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, etc)...we are near there. But not rich enough to actually LIVE there. :)

What time are you at Kona? What are you going to do while your husbands runs the 1/2?

Yes, I'm slightly familiar with the area. We live in Simi Valley. It's about an hour & 10 from DL.

We have a reservation at 9:50 at Kona Cafe. Hoping that gives us enough time to possibly go back to Saratoga Springs and shower then head to the Polynesian for breakfast.

I have no idea what I am going to do while he runs. I will probably escort him to the race area then just head back to the hotel. Doesn't Epcot close early that night?

If you want table service dining, you could think about making some reservations.

If you were just planning on quick/counter service, or mainly hitting the Food&Wine Festival, then don't worry about reservations.

I was told that not only is there the Half, not only is there the F&W festival, but the trip for this Half also falls in a zone of Free Dining. So table services could be filled pretty well.

It looks like it's open until 9. Plus I bought the post-race party ticket, so I will be taking advantage. Even though I will be by myself! Lol!

I was born at Little Company of Mary hospital and lived in Torrance for my first 18 years before heading off to UCSB. Parents still there, visit every year for the DL half over Labor Day, small world!

In other news, Frontier has some superb prices going for flights IAD-MCO, we just booked Fri night-Sun night at $168/person round trip. Note they do charge for carry ons now (but not personal items) yet it's cheaper to check a bag ($20), so we're just putting all our stuff in one checked bag and assuming they won't lose our running shoes. :rolleyes2 Or maybe I'll stuff those in a backpack personal item, hmmmm.

Southwest's flight schedule is out for November for those of you still needing to book air!
I booked mine! Super happy with the times...landing at MCO early on arrival day and leaving late on my departure day, just like I like. :teeth:

Totally up to you. If you want certain Table Service places, then yeah, I'd book them. As @jeanigor pointed out, there will be many events going on at WDW that weekend.

I've only booked one Table Service meal, and that's my pre-race early dinner. In my mind that's the most important meal of the weekend, so I wanted to make sure it was at the time and place I knew would work for me. :) So maybe think about stuff like that - is there an important pre-race place for you to go to, or do you have your heart set on a certain post-race celebration meal? Or do you want to eat at any hard-to-get places (i.e. Be Our Guest, 'Ohana, etc.)? If not, then you probably don't need to worry. I think it all depends on how important the dining is to you.

It's so rare to find people who have even heard of Torrance, let alone be from there. :) Especially on a Disney forum. Ha. My niece, who went to UCSB also, now works at Little Company of Mary. :)

We'll be at the DL half this year too!

What did you originally submit? If it's faster than what you originally submitted or if you didn't submit anything originally, I'd say yes, absolutely...I would definitely submit it! If nothing else it'll get you starting before all of the runners that will come in without submitting anything.

Great job on your race!!

I submitted my time, and they wrote me back with an estimated finish of 2:31. I'm sure I'll be slower than that, but I think it's fast enough to move me up a few carrols. Before, I was an unverified 3:15. Thanks for your help!

How long did it take you to get the confirmation? I submitted mine a week ago and didn't know how long to expect.

That's great!! Glad you're getting moved up. :)

Hello! I just discovered this thread. A group of us our running the 5K. It's our first rundisney event. Since some of us (me) are newbie runners, we started with something small. Looking forward to hearing about others experiences and getting any tips. My DVC home resort is not a host resort, so if anyone has any tips/info for driving to the race, I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

Last year my mom and I drove to AK, parked easily and had very little difficulty with the whole process. We were on a time constraint due to the kids races, so we didn't want to use the buses. We timed our drive based on a conservative estimate of the bus schedule from our resort. (You could estimate based on a nearby host resort?)

Good luck! You're going to have FUN!!

I don't know if this helps at all but I just submitted a time for Dumbo over the weekend. And asked them to put it down for Wine and Dine/Avengers. I got an automatic reply that same afternoon (Sunday). And got an email yesterday (Tuesday) saying they had updated my time.

I had to call in today to find out what my brand new proof of time was. Since it wasn't showing up on the Disneyland site (apparently when you email it in it doesn't show on the verification page, go figure). But that's one timeline example even if it's for the Disneyland races.

Admittedly the first time I submitted my proof of time I never got a confirmation. But I also submitted it right around the Princess half so I think it was just a matter of things were too crazy to send it. But my time was recorded so keep that in consideration.

If you feel really concerned you can always call the RunDisney number and ask what your official recorded proof of time is like I did. It doesn't take too long for them to long they just need your name and race your entered into.

Awesome. Thank you! We're staying at OKW, and the rest of my group is at Saratoga which is a host resort. I'll have to find out from them the bus schedule and work based on that. If we can park at AK, that's great. I had read that some say you park at ESPN and then take a bus which makes me nervous. Seems like it would just take forever to get there having to transfer.

If you're going all the way through this thread, at some point the specifics of where people park (at Epcot) and how they get to the race is discussed. This race is a bit different from others, because you can do that. I think. From what I've read. :)
