Official Wine & Dine 2014

Okay so if anyone else is up right now and still hasn't got BOG dinner reservations for the week of the race like me. They just released a bunch. Act now.

I had finally given up on this and then they release a bunch on us. I've got my reservation finally.

Thanks for BOG tip. I could get Thur dinner but opted for Monday lunch FP instead. So, if you are in property, you are able to make a lunch ressie for BOG too.

I don't know if you are a Costco member, but I got a great deal on a one way one day rental from the airport on arrival day. It was $25 for a full size. We will stop on the way to grab some items at the grocery store for the weekend.

Wow that's awesome! Thanks so much for the tip! This leads to my next idea...

Hooray! Thank you so much! I got a dinner reservation 180 days out for Sunday Night but I was now able to book a Fastpass Lunch for Thursday arrival. which were all showing no availability last week.

Plane gets to MCO at 11:00 a.m. Fastpass for BOG lunch is from 1:15-1:45. Do you think that's ample time to get on the magical express to Art of Animation then take the shuttle direct to Magic Kingdom in time for lunch? Or just rent a Costco car as suggested above? or does the shuttle take you directly to Magic Kingdom instead of making you take the ferry/monorail?

I would personally rent the car park it where your staying and take the shuttle to MK. The shuttle will drop you off at the main entrance. But it's really a matter of personal preference I think because both ways could equal out to around the same time.

Option 1(Magical Express): Getting from the airport to the hotel can take at least an hour if you do Magical Express sometimes more. And then you have to wait for the shuttle and that can be anywhere from 0-40 minutes depending all on your timing. Plus a good 15-20 minutes to get to the park. So there's two hours putting you a 1:15 (allowing for any possible contigencies like problems at Park gate etc.).

Now here it is versus renting the car. Picking luggage up should maybe take 20 minutes max hopefully. Picking up a car 10-15 minutes. As long as you don't get lost getting to WDW probably another 20-30 minutes. Plus 5 minutes to park. And then the 0-40 minutes to hop the shuttle plus the ride. So that gets you there you around 1:10 so slightly earlier (allowing for any possible contingencies like problems at Park gate etc.).

If you were to park the car and take the ferry/monorail over. That would change the time for the later to around maybe 1:00? I think.

Either way your going to be cutting it close. And this isn't even factoring in possible flight delays.

Glad you were able to get dinner reservations though!

I wasn't able to get dinner reservations, but for the first time I was able to get lunch FPs, thanks to this thread and their new easier way of getting BOG FPs.

Ah, you are awesome! :worship: Thank you so much! Luckily I won't be checking bags just taking a carry on (crossing fingers it doesn't get moved below deck) so that should shave off a bit of time. ::yes:: and if any unfortunate flight delays or contingencies occur then I'm super glad it's only a fastpass and not a reservation so it can lapse and I won't get charged the $30 per person! Though I'll keep checking for slightly later times :D I think I might rent the car just for peace of mind for A DIFFERENT reservation this same day bc as it stands I have a Beaches and Cream reservation at 9:55 p.m. and I wanted to stay til park closing at 9:00. haha. UNLESS you ALSO have faith that disney transport can get me there as long as I'm right outside at 9? from monorail to ticket transportation to bus to Yacht+Beach Club? I might end up cancelling that one altogether though and try to jigsaw it to another day so I won't need a rental at all. cramming so much into so little time is crazy! planning is super exciting though!

eta: I was just able to switch from 1:15-1:45 to a 1:30-2:00! Woo, every minute counts! Also that will be 10:30 a.m. my time. Yay for lunch for breakfast lol!

Off to Atlantic City to run my first non-Disney half tomorrow. I am very interested in seeing the differences, besides the obvious ones! Very curious about my time since there aren't any photo stops, but I am guessing running beside the ocean will make wind a factor that I don't usually have at Disney.

It will be nice perk to take the elevator down from my hotel room and walk onto the boardwalk for a 8am start :thumbsup2

Yes good luck and come back and tell us how it was! I'm always looking for fun new places to run. It's cloudy and in the 50s here today so running by the ocean sounds wonderful to me!

Cloudy and 50s sounds like great running weather! ;)

I just finished up the Kentucky Bourbon Chase (200 mile relay) last weekend and am now fully focused on the Wine & Dine. This will be my 2nd W&D and I'm super stoked! I'm sure I'm driving my wife crazy... I was pacing around earlier like I was waiting for the starting gun to go off... :jumping1:

Only a few weeks left, and I hope everyone is as excited as I am!

It was a beautiful day to run this morning! I beat my Disney half PR by 24 minutes! :cool1:

Things I noticed about Disney vs non-Disney half:

1) I should have driven the course. I know the routes and parks of Disney so well, it was never needed. Each hill/overpass/bridge was a complete unwelcomed surprised.
2) The expo had about 15 booths, max
3) Not one costume. One group of ladies had on tutus, and a few pairs had running skirts, but that was it.
4) I woke at 6:30 and arrived at the start at 7:45 and ran at 8. So, weird.
5) The sign were a bit more, um, adult. (Hurry, I want to gamble. Free hugs if you are not wearing panties) But there were overall lots of go mom/dad, signs too.
6) Finisher area. You were allowed to bring in your family. Lot of food/drinks from different providers, even clam chowder. (Disney gives you preboxed food)
7) No, recovery area with someone taping ice to my knees or providing biofreeze. I missed this ;)
8) Didn't stop for any pictures. There really wasn't any photo opps.
9) The wind was definitely a factor. But not by the ocean, it was the side streets that were tough
10) Racing fees- $80 vs $220 big difference.

All in all. I would definitely do a non Disney half again. (My 3 halves have all be at Disney). I was afraid that if I didn't have the magic, I might not be driven to finish. Wrong. But, given the choice, I would rather be in Disney:love: And can not wait until the W & D!!!! :woohoo:

Maybe this needs a thread of its own but I'd love info on the services provided in the medical tents.

I'm running the W&D 1/2 and am nursing 2 bad knees, tendonitis in one and a partially torn meniscus in the other. The meniscal tear creates a good bit of swelling, stiffness and pain both during and after my runs. I'm thinking ice and maybe Biofreeze at the end would allow me to at least limp through the after party. (BTW, I've seen my ortho doc who will do a steroid shot the week before the race, has me in rehab which I start today and I've gotten the go-ahead to do my best).

What do you do? Do you go in there and tell them what you want? Do they let you rest there for 20 minutes? Do they have ace bandages, or a wrap you can have (or do I plan on packing one in my gear bag?).

Thanks!

I know for sure they will have biofreeze, tylenol (or something) and vaseline (oh the chafing!) available on the course. (They did for ToT 10-miler at least). I am pretty confident that the medical tent personnel will do everything they can to accommodate you, so don't hesitate to voice what you need. I think they also have cash only massage therapists onsite, so they may have someone to help you 'deswell' and all that. Good luck on your journey!

As a PP said, they definitely have Biofreeze on the course. I'm sure they have it at the finish line medical tent too.

They also definitely have ice. After my first Disney race in 2011 I needed ice for my knee. They had me sit in a chair and wrapped a bag of ice onto my knee with saran wrap...and I'm sure they'll let you sit for a bit if you need it. I'd bring the ace bandage with you in your checked bag.

The finish line med tent has an entire section dedicated to ice needs: you go in there, find a seat, and wait for someone to come over. You tell them where you need ice and they'll strap bags of it on with cling wrap. No resting, except for the time you're waiting to be iced. I've never seen anyone come out with any kind of wrapping, so I'd plan on bringing your own. If you have greater medical needs than that, you'll be directed to the full service tent, which is more of an emergency triage where they can evaluate and decide if they can treat and move you out, or call for an ambulance. The goal is to get people in and out as quickly as possible.

All on-course med tents will have Biofreeze, bandages and Tylenol and paramedics on hand. They're really a self-help format where you can take care of minor things yourself, or they can call for assistance for anything worse.

what about the famous character photo ops? how many will there be, what's an average wait time for one, and most importantly, WILL I SEE TIGGER ON THE COURSE?!
